Not exactly a rumor, but Kyle Long was just asked on Twitter who he would want to play with if he could play with anyone and he said Alex Boone, who happens to be a FA. We'll see if he gets his wish.
  2. I also saw something today about Pace saying he was still a Shea McClellin fan and seemed interested in resigning him. Sure hope that's not true. Time to move on.

This is the first one of these I've done this year. I don't think it's remotely realistic, but I'd sure be happy with it: 11: R1P11 OLB JAYLON SMITH NOTRE DAME 41: R2P10 OT JACK CONKLIN MICHIGAN STATE 72: R3P9 DT ROBERT NKEMDICHE OLE MSS 107: R4P8 WR WILL FULLER NOTRE DAME 150: R5P11 OLB JOE SCHOBERT WISCONSIN 188: R6P10 S JUSTIN SIMMONS BOSTON COLLEGE 207: R6P29 DE SHAWN OAKMAN BAYLOR 209: R6P31 CB DARYL WORLEY WEST VIRGINIA 228: R7P9 QB JACOBY BRISSETT NORTH CAROLINA STATE
  4. I think they just resign Rodgers. Provides good continuity from last year. He did a decent job last year in his role and is probably a better pass-catcher at the moment than Langford/Carey. He was cheap last year and should only come cheaper this year. It makes no sense to get a guy in the first 5 rounds of the draft or so, nor does it make sense to spend much money on someone in FA. So if it's not Rodgers, it's a late round FA, or maybe, like you said, a guy with some special team experience like Benny Cunningham.
  5. No argument from me.
  6. I don't think you can label it a mistake until we see (1) what he ends up getting on the open market, and (2) how Pace spends the $ that could've gone to Forte. If he goes for $2 million to the Packers or something, it's going to look bad. If he gets $6-7 million to go somewhere, that's $ I'd rather spend elsewhere, and I'd rather know I have it than be negotiating with free agents with that potential commitment in the back of my mind.
  7. Not terrible. I would prefer to see a return man somewhere in there, but otherwise I could live with it. http://wgnradio.com/2016/02/08/hoge-2016-b...mock-draft-1-0/
  8. I also currently like Smith and Jack more than Ragland, but I wouldn't hate the pick. If I were to pick nits, I would probably swap out Robinson in the 6th (a guy who got kicked off his team) with a safety or pass rushing LB. Also, Theus seems like a bit of an overdraft based on what I've read, but otherwise I'm fine with it.

I agree. I wasn't quite as happy watching it as I wanted to be. Enjoyed the story of Mongo getting too aggressive with Colvert, and Colvert bodyslamming him, then, when Mongo took off his helmet, Colvert knocked him out. Would have liked more happy/highlights of Payton during the 1985 season - pretty much every actual highlight was the defense, McMahon, or Fridge. For my tastes, I also thought the clips they showed from the game were, oddly, too close. It was all on the end result, whereas if you want to understand what made the defense so good, I wanted some shots of the game footage you would have seen on TV so you could get a sense of the penetration and speed of the defense. But the stories, by and large, were great and it was good to see the guys again. Finally, F Charles Martin forever.
  10. Given that, I would go: 1) Myles Jack, LB, UCLA 2) Cody Whitehair, G/T, Kansas 3) Kentrell Brothers, LB, Missouri 4) Pharoh Cooper, WR, South Carolina 5) Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama 6) Spencer Drango, T, Baylor 6) Trent Matthews, S, Colorado St. 6) Trevone Boykin, QB, TCU 7) Tyler Ervin, RB, San Jose St.
  11. Unless they draft a RB or TE, it's going to be hard to piss me off, though given the Bears' history, I wouldn't put it past them.

We only have one offseason to draw from, and from what I understand the Bears have more cap space this offseason than last. That said, last year and his general comments suggest Pace is more likely to target young, up and coming players (see McPhee) than break the bank for a guy that’s established, but might not be worth his contract in four years. So I can’t really see a fit with Von Miller, Josh Norman, Muhammad Wilkerson, or even Malik Jackson. That said, here's some guys I like: - Danny Trevathan, LB, Broncos – ILB is the biggest need for the Bears (Pace has said as much), Trevathan has the Fox connection, and there’s not a lot of other ILB depth in FA, and I don't think you want to go into the draft still needing an ILB. Perhaps his price tag gets too high coming off a Super Bowl appearance. - Reggie Nelson, S, Bengals – He’s 32, but coming off maybe his best year. It’s enticing to think about teaming him with Amos, and he’ll probably come cheaper than Berry and Weddle (who I’ve always thought was overrated). Otherwise maybe we can look at . . . - Tashaun Gipson, S, Browns – He had injury problems last year, but was seen as one of the best young safeties in the league previously and is just 25. - Trumaine Johnson, CB, Rams – Janoris Jenkins is flashier (and will likely get more money), but Johnson is steadier and fits the big, physical type Fangio likes. - Jeff Allen, G, Chiefs - I would love Oseleme, but after seeing the contract Lane Johnson got, I think he'll be too rich for the Bears' blood, but Allen can be a similar T/G chess piece at a smaller price, plus he's from Chicago and went to Illinois, so maybe he would welcome a return to the Land of Lincoln. - Ian Williams, DT, 49ers - Was a productive player at NT under Fangio and could be a fit to reunite with him. - Adrian Clayborn, DE, Falcons - If Jarvis Jenkins ends up getting more money than he's worth from someone, I think Clayborn can give similar production on a similar contract to what Jenkins did last year. Who do you guys like?

I liked him as a KR/PR, but he seemed to have no value anywhere else, which is tough to justify.
  15. dawhizz replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
I've been trying to identify other KR/PR guys in the draft. I would prefer it be a WR, since we could use a speed option in the WR corps as well. Two guys I've identified are Pharoh Cooper from South Carolina and Hunter Sharp from Utah State. Would be interested in any others anyone has been able to find.
  16. It would be hard for me to pass on Jalen Ramsey if he fell - getting a real ballhawk in the secondary, either as FS to Amos at SS or as a shutdown CB.

Decided to really focus on him tonight and I'm not overly impressed. Doesn't run hard all the time and seems to be coming out on 3rd down, which I don't get if he's a top pick.
  18. He gone. To the Dolphins per Schefter.
  19. That only works for head coaches (if at all), not for an OC getting a promotion to head coach.
  20. Thinking out loud: Gase is hired in Cleveland, laying the ground work for a trade of Cutler to Cleveland for a 2nd & 3rd this year, a 1st next year, and Manziel/McCown.
  21. All these guys want to be back but want to be paid a certain way to come back, which just doesn't fit with the economic reality of the situation. The Bears drafted Langford specifically because they knew Forte was going to be a free agent and there's nothing about Langford's performance this year that should dissuade them from that strategy. If he wants to come back on a very friendly deal, that's fine with me, but when he steps on the open market and someone decides to throw him an offer that's $2 million over the Bears' offer, I wonder if he will still be talking about his desire to come back.

While it might be overreaction, it's hard for me to see Pace taking Jack or a Smith, guys who will be coming off injuries, after enduring a season where his first pick was injured all year. I'm in the Ragland camp, though if prefer to trade down to get him. Given the disastrous history the Browns have had at QB and top draft picks recently, I really wonder if they might give us a decent package for Cutler.
  23. dawhizz replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
I think he's fine as the 5th receiver on your roster, but if he is your starting slot receiver, you aren't a very good team. Assuming the Bears keep Jeffery, they are looking at Jeffrey, White, and Royal as likely having guaranteed roster spots next year (like it or not, Royal's staying). I would like to see them bring in one speed receiver/return man from the draft. Marquess Wilson and Cameron Meredith are still under contract, I think. But if Mariani wants to come back on a minimum salary, it's fine with me.
  24. I'm currently partial to Ragland or Smith for our first round pick, mostly because I think there is a big drop off at ILB after that and we need a quality leader and producer at ILB.
  25. Impressed: Leno. He looks like a starter at tackle, even if it doesn't end up being LT. Who knew he would be the bright spot on the line? Disappointed: Ratliff, for obvious reasons.
