  2. With Blanchard release it will be interesting to see if Edwards or Palmer can be out McCown for roster spots. I am not really comfortable as McCown as the number two.
  3. Personally, I am not sure how Weems can make this team. He's more of a returner (not that special of one) and so far not that impressive at WR either. I would have Bennett return over Weems and battle Anderson for third WR spot.
  4. I will not deny it, I'm elated with the direction the Bears are going with front office, coaching and personnel; I have high expectations for this season. http://blog.chicagobears.com/2013/07/31/of...ig-in-red-zone/ Offense comes up big in red zone Posted by Larry Mayer on July 31, 2013 – 5:45 pm The Bears defense boasts several talented Pro Bowlers. But the unit could have used a step ladder or an NBA power forward during a red-zone drill late in Wednesday’s practice. Taking advantage of a size differential, Jay Cutler threw touchdown passes to 6-3 receiver Alshon Jeffery, 6-4 receiver Brandon Marshall and 6-6 tight end Martellus Bennett. “We’re very lucky,” said coach Marc Trestman. “We thank [general manager] Phil [Emery] every day when we come off the field that he was able to bring in guys with this kind of size and girth, and we’re going to do our best to try to put them in a position to have success.” Jeffery leaped high in the back of the end zone to snare the ball over 5-11 safety Major Wright, while Marshall hauled in a jump ball over 6-2 cornerback Charles Tillman in the corner. “It’s good to have a situation like that where you can throw some fades into the side of the end zone,” said offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer. “And when you have to cover 53 yards in the end zone, it makes it tough.” Other big targets in the Bears passing game include tight end Fendi Onobun (6-6) and receivers Terrence Toliver (6-5), Marquess Wilson (6-4) and Marcus Rucker (6-4). “We’re got some big dudes out there,” Cutler said. “You just kind of have to put it up high, and they understand football, which makes it nice.” Cutler has especially enjoyed bonding with Bennett, a complete tight end who signed with the Bears as a free agent after spending his first five seasons with the Giants (2008-11) and Cowboys (2012). “He’s a joy to play with on and off the field,” Cutler said. “He brings a little bit of energy. He brings some edge to the huddle and he’s like a Brandon Marshall [in that] he’s really smart out there, understands defenses and knows where the holes are. It makes it easy on me.”
  5. Ditto, I like this kid and thought he stood out last preseason.
  6. If it was going to be a current player, than one could justify Carimi whom has been one of the biggest disappointments as any in recent times. I would argue that Weems at least is on the field for special teams.
  7. "McClown" also is a great choice since he not only sucked but also shot off his mouth and obviously could not back it up! David Terrell, I agree he was a bust but think he also had injuries that kept him back. Curtis Enis, had a holdout before signing his rookie deal and then got hurt.. Rashan Salaam had a good rookie season then could not get motiviated to play due to his "pot addiction". Also, don't forget about Jonathon Quinn and all the other QB's that have come through the organization that were worthless.
  8. I really can't disagree with any of the players mentioned and kinda have forgotten about Rick Mirer especially the cost of aquiring him. Good call on all the players mentioned.
  9. The Patriots are offering fans the opportunity to exchange Hernandez jerseys for a new in stock Patriots jersey. I think this is very appropriate and classy move by this organization. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown...-193511953.html Not to make light of the Hernandez case but which former Bear Player should the Bears Organization offer a simialr opportunity for fans to exchange for a new jersey? Right now my vote would be for Cedric Benson; he absolutly was one of their biggest turds to ever wear the blue and orange in recent years. Fortunatley, I never had a Benson jersey but if I did I would want the Bears to accept an exchange request. Which Bear Jersey would you want to exchange and why?
  10. I agree and hoping for a complete overhaul at OL and that includes C. I know Longergan was undrafted but he started 4 years at LSU and I hope he is our next Kruetz!
  11. Perhaps Weems is equivalent to a utility player like in baseball..I see Eric as a specialist like a kicker or longsnapper or returner that he is. But beside the point football applies a position to each player regardless of what their primary role is and that is that. So the Bears list Weems as a WR,though he is paid to primarily return kicks. In all reality though, WR falls into the proverbial OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED part of the job requirements!
  12. I hope to hear that Webb has not fallen of the wagon!
  13. Yes great avatars indeed, only problem is I keep getting distracted and can't remember what I was going to post next.
  14. That is good to know, It really is hard not to get wrong information on the web.
  15. I really have not been too impressed by Weems either. Hopefull one of the rookies can impress with return abilities.
  16. I have been thinking the same thing.
  17. I can't beleieve what we are paying some of these guys. Also Notice: How little money has been spent on keeping our Franchise QB protected compared to the other postions. Additionally, Last Years starting OL salary totalled only $10.6 Million! 2013 Player salary: http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Bears&Year=2013 2012 Players salary: http://www.sportscity.com/nfl/salaries/chi...bears-salaries/ Peppers $16M (I like PEP and he is a restructure candidate) Cutler $10M (I think he will show us why he was worth two draft picks and think he will earn a multi year extension) Marshall $9.5M (should be extended) Melton $8.4M (has chance to earn big extension) Forte $7.3M (miles stacking up and has a steep price but will be replaced in a few years) Briggs $8.4M (he very good but at what price are fair, good thing we add to this position via the darft and FA). Jennings $5M ( may be a little high here) Tillman $8M (should be a restructure candidate) Hester $2.9M (windy city flyer -- take a 90% paycut or it's time to fly away) E, Bennett $2.3M (restructure needed) Garza $2.1M (need to uprade here sooner than later) Gould $2.85 (has been very solid and has improved each year - retain) Bush $3.5M (he is an expensive insurance policy) podlesh $1.7 (needs competition)
  18. I hope PJ steps up and beats out Garza. OT: Bushrod, Carimi, Mills OG: Long, Slauson C: PJ Lonergan
  19. no, just thankful for google!
  20. How do you like this for classy!
  21. Looks like a playmaker for sure: runs good routes, nice speed, knows how to utilize blockers on screens, tracks the ball really well and always seems to catch the ball with his hands away from his body. I love that many highlights show him coming back to the ball (which is a pet peve of my that can lead to INT's), nice body controll and a clutch reciever who attacks the ball. Probably our best 7th round pick in a long time.
  22. I think we got a young stud here in Bostic. I like his speed and chasing down a WR and not allowing him to score was perfect!
  23. Let's be honest here. I am probably the only one on this board that was excited when the Bears drafted Brian Urlacher, a saftey from New Mexico high in the first round of 2000. This was probably becasue I was the only one that heard of him before as I watched him play while a grad student at UNM. Brian seemed to turn out pretty good at MLB after moving over from OLB and S prior to that. Infact, Urlacher played WR in high school. Hopefully, we will all look back to this years from now and say the say thing about the Long. Sure, no one projected him at #20, other than position the type of player or talent pool really can not be that far between 20 and 50. The Bears simple could not have affored going into this season without adding OL ealry in the draft who could have a chance to compete right away. I was actually watching the draft with a friend, a cowboy fan, and we both were sayingthe same thing that our teams needed to address OL for years but they never seem actually draft OL. But then a peculiar thing happended, both teams made needs based picks at OL. Albeit, not a flashy pick, we both were suprised and content that for the first time in a while management is making an effort to strengthen an obvious weakness. I know change is scary but how can anyone on this board not be a little excited or optimistic about where this franchise is heading? I choose to trust in the new regime and want to buy into that they are making an effort of fixing our most covered up and overlooked problem, the OL. Emery has done an exceptional job running this team as a business and not a family hobby. I was really impressed by how quickly he replaced URL and Roach with Williams / Anderson, two proven and solid veterans LBs. This unit will be very good next year and we have time and flexibity to address later. Summary: DEF is top 10, Special Teams should be Top 10, Offense? Please do not forget that every year we seem to be really good at DEF and Very Good at ST only to be just bad enough on offense to not have a real chance of winning the Super Bowl. I can tell there are a lot of cub fans on here because they have the same pathetic outlook for the Bears. I want to see another SB win in my lifetime and it is rediculous that a City like Chicago had not won since 1985! Ask yourself this question: How many world championships has the team the Bears absolutley destroyed in the '85 SB won since that game. I believe the Patriots have won it atleast 3 time and 1 loss. Point is, we finanlly are addressing the achillis heel which has been preventing this team from being better and for the most part everyone here is being negative about filling one of the biggests need. I am not qualified to cal it a reach so I won't. Furthermore, I hope we add a starting center in the 2nd round and we cand send Garza, a former gaurd who has been playing center (by the way has no ACL's in either knee} on his way. CHICAGO STRONG "312" in 2013!
