  1. I could not agree more...It's all about portfolio diversification with gm that will be tactical in his management approach! I am lovin it and about time that this team realized that putting all your eggs in one basket (Defense) is foolish and rediciulous to think that is the blue print for winning a SB in today's NFL. I really like the balnce that we are begining to have and must continue to bring in young talent at the key positions on both sides of the ball and this team will truly have a legit chance at winning a SB soon!
  2. Now this is a Redzone target! http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=8811
  3. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!!! This is going to be a fun year.. I can feel it!
  4. Maybe if they did not look for a starting safety in the 6th & 7th rounds every year this would not be a story or trend. You know the definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over expecting different results.... Daniel Manning.....2nd round pick REACH and look who JA passed over...see any players that could still be on this team contributing? http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/round...2%26year%3d2006 GRRRR....I hate GM's that get cute in the DRAFT ROOM!! I just went back a looked over the 2007 draft and think it maybe among the worst for the Bears in years. Now, imagine if they did not get Hester.
  5. http://www2.oanow.com/sports/2012/apr/30/d...e-c-ar-3705245/ More on the AJ Green Story........ I personally do not know if he is any good but the Bears should have a help wanted sign up -- looking for LT, inquire within!
  6. Agreed, there is no doubt that the last two GM's have neglected the OL for years! So far in that regard, Emery is not off to a good start. I admittedley was stunned with the 1st round pick and clealry they did not draft best player / matching need - available. If so how could they not have selected Decastro? I posted months ago as well on why I thought the Bears should draft two OL in the first three rounds. How great would it have been if Emery Drafted Decastro at 19, traded up for WR Jeffries in the 2nd and traded back into the 2nd round with the Bengels for Center Perter Konz. LT Williams (Webb), LG - Decastro - C Konz - RG Garza (Rachal etc competition) - RT Carimi This would have been an above average unit and a foundation of talented youth to build upon in 2013.
  7. Shea's Bio and background is very similar to Urlacher's. I went to UNM at the time URL was there and nobody in Chicago knew who he was at the time he was drafted and were pleasantly surprised to say the least about the type of player he has been for the Bears. Here's to Shea being our next first round perenial pro-bowler!
  8. I certainly fall in the camp of not knowing anything about this kid. Watching the video it was hard not thinking Hunter Hillenmeyer who wore #92 last with the bears. I'm note sure how we pass on the best LG in the draft who was available at #19 but heres to hoping Shae is more Rosie Colvin than HH.
  9. Remember who we have CURRENTLY at LT! If they can't hold URL than Webb will not be able to hold em' either!
  10. I agree with your logic here and have posted similarly in the past. We need impact players at Best Available Positions to start rebuilding through the draft. This teams has had (under JA) an abundance of early round strike outs and can not afford to miss much going forward if we want to quickly reclaim our rightful position at the top of the NFCN! Right now the Bears have the best Defense and Special Teams in the division and are in the top 5-10 in the conference respectfully. The Offense will also be more efficient this season going forward and will help bring balance to all phases.
  11. I want the Bears to be in it to win it every year. I have no problem with the Campbell signing. If, Cutty gets hurt and we make the playoffs, chances are McCown is not going to take us to the SB but with Campbell I think we at least have a legit chance to be competitive. Don't get me wrong I am glad that Hainie (went to Broncos) is gone and like having a vet as our 3rd stringer in McCown but having a capable #2 for an insurance policy is priceless. Campbell played very well for a dysfunctional team in Oakland last season before getting hurt. Very Good Insurance policy for the Bears this year if you ask me. Most Rookies are not ready to play at a high level on ST as they often need to be re-assimilated once they get to the NFL. Historically, the Bears conservative nature prior to Martz on offense has required special teams and the defense to play at a very high level to be competitive. Emery, gets this and bringing Brandon Marshall into the fold automatically provides a boost to the O that we have not had in a very long time if ever. This off season we got better, younger and deeper and provided a direction for what is needed going into the draft: OL, CB, LB, WR depth etc. Remember, Emery has stated that he believes in building through the draft and that is exactly what he was hired to do. I am no football guru but from my perspective I feel Emery looked to FA for known commodities without breaking the bank while not weakening the strengths of the team historically (ST & DEF). Additionally, getting rid of Martz was as an important of an off-season move as the others. The team promoted Tice and finally listened to Cutty and brought in Bates to coordinate the passing game. This unity should be much more efficient with Jay being able to call audibles and will be tailored more to the strength of players on Offense verse asking them to do what they can not physically do. Hopefully Emery will add play-makers, fill holes and build for the future the right way through the draft.
  12. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d827c9c5b/article/having-bush-in-fold-lets-bears-be-tougher-with-forte this article essentially explains this move to add Bush a good business move to put Forte in a corner.
  13. THIS IS A SMOKE SCREEN - hopefully!
  14. I agree with what jason is stating and would add that Tice did not want to re-shuffle the line again once Williams was healthy and was trying to keep some cohesion left him at LG. It would be a tremendous help to the org if Williams is able to succeed at LT and play at an above averge level. I personally do not think the draft will yield a top LT at 19th and would draft the Center, Konz from Wisconsin and then the best OG prospect in the second or 3rd. A team like GB is in need of a C with losing thiers in FA and thus we will also be blocking them from the top center in the draft.
  15. Here is my take living here in Denver which has not only been very interesting to follow but I actually think it is a great fit for Peyton and the Broncos. Peyton's decision is clearly not about the money and I would add all the finalist knew what kind of coin it was going to take to sign Manning. The Dolphins would have probably paid the most since they were the most desparate. Going to the Broncos was the perfect PR solution to Elway and Fox's PR nightmare that became Tebowmania. What I mean is I believe they expected him to fail miserably when they put him in as starter and thought they would have easily cutt bait after letting him sink or swim. The problem is that Tebow and his young Deffense willed their way along with an immense amout of luck helping the Broncos put togeher a long win streak that ultimate lead to a playoff birth and first round win against an injury ridden Steelers. Enter Peyton Mannaing as a Free Agent, The perfect storm to blow Tebowmaina out of the mile hile city. I have always felt the Manning would stay in the AFC so that he would not have to face Eli in the Playoffs unless it was the SB. As a Bears fan I am pleased to know Peyton did not go to the 49ers for obvious reasons.
  16. In case you missed this MARTZ is gone, TICE will use the TE's this year....
  17. I truly believe this is the year to address OL in the draft which will go along way in keeping the Bears competitive now and into the future without over spending in FA. In fact former GM - Bill Polian said today on the Doug Gottlieb show (ESPN Radio) that he would have never spent the $$$ on OG like the Tampa Bucks did for Carl Nicks, simply could not justify that money to that position. Assuming a true LT is not available at 19, I would not be disappointed if we could DRAFT a LG and C that could come in and start from day one. Then in 2013 the Bears can move up in the 1st round if needed to get that stud LT if Williams and Webb can not hold down the fort this year ( - this is me not holding my breath). I still think the Bears should bring Marcus McNeil in for a visit. If I am Emery I am restructuring players like Hester and Chris Williams so that they are paid more in line with their actual overall production but I am getting off track here. Bottom Line is the best teams build through the draft starting in the trenches and going from there. Without a doubt the Bears have overly neglected the OL which has helped get Cutty clowned though his first few seasons (our franchise QB that we finally acquired via trade not draft- yes another stab at our former front office, they should have had the balls to move up in the draft for Cutler when he was a rookie). Furthermore this recklessness has in fact also shortened the window of opportunity for a legit run at the SB due to mismanaging the draft. Look at the Packers for example: they have been committed over the years to keep their QB's clean, 2011 rd 1 pick 32 Derek Sherrod OT 2010 rd 1 pick 23 Brian Bulaga OT 2010 rd 5 pick 169 Marshall Newhouse OT 2009 rd 4 pick 109 TJ Lang OT/OG 2009 rd 5 pick 162 Jamon Meredith OT 2008 rd 4 pick 135 Josh Sitton OG 2008 rd 5 pick 150 Breno Giacomini OT 2007 rd 4 pick 119 Allan Barbre OG 2006 rd 2 pick 47 Daryn Colledge OG 2006 rd 3 pick 75 Jason Spitz OG 2006 rd 5 pick 165 Tony Moll OG Yes, that is ELEVEN offensive lineman taken in the 5th round or earlier of the past 6 years! Obviously they had quite a few misses but the commitment is there. Bears during this time: 8 offensive lineman: only TWO 1st rounders, ONE 4th rounder and FIVE 7th rounders and lone 6th rounder AND COUNTLESs undrafted free agents....Infact there were NO OL taken in 2005 or 2004 and one 7th rounder in 2003........no wonder we have problems keeping the QB upright !!! This is absolutely absurd! 2011 Carimi OT Round 1 2010 WEBB OT Round 7 2009 Louis OG Round 7 2008 Williams OT Round 1 2008 Adams OG Round 7 2008 Barton OT Round 7 2007 Beekman OG/C Round 4 2007 Brant OT Round 7 2006 Reed OG Round 6 http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft...0&type=team I hope that Emery's plan is to address the OL in the draft early and often. Challenge for you all: I honestly do not have time to follow college football very closely and would be very interested to see which Offensive lineman some of you would target that would be available in the first 4 rounds? This could be a fun exercise. It's time to keep Cutty Clean... and give him time to make plays![/b]
  18. I am on board with trying to bring in / back these types of FA. Hopefully Hayden is healthy cause we could sure use the help as he has good size and is suited for Levies scheme. Okoye, yes definitely think he is worth bringing back. Honestly not sure why Bush would want to come to Chicago but if he was the same price or less than Barber than I would have no problem. Wimbley, have not seen if he has been released but you can never have enough pass rushers.
  19. Too me this should not even be a debate. Look how the great organizations are run - they often do not over spend in FA and draft well. It's great to have a bunch of very good receivers aka Green Gay but they are a very flawed team that is covered up by a great passing attack. Who do you want leading the offense? I think we all know how far our team will go if we have our 3rd string QB handing off to our 3rd sting RB again this year (we will be watching the Packers and Lions in the playoffs again - I am not okay with this scenario). At this point I am very optimistic on the WR group now that we have a clear big no. 1 in B-Marsh. BM is a great all around threat, Bennett will be a Booker-esque slot guy and assuming Knox is healthy, he is best suited for taking a lid of the DEF and not going over the middle. He simply is a finesse WR with great speed. Not sure if Hester is even a good option anywhere as he does not track the ball particularly well on deep passes (drops) and not a great slot route runner but serviceable 4th WR option. Don't underestimate Kellen Davis who has the skills to be an effective pass catching TE. Tice will utilize him this year more appropriately. The best way Emery can smartly / efficiently upgrade this team is through the draft and with a few stop gap FA to fill out the roster (CB, DE etc). I know, it is not sexy but a GM needs to have roster integrity and that is why I personally would like a minimum of three linemen drafted in the first 4 rounds (2 OL and a DE) with CB, LB and WR as later considerations based on best player available. I also would not at all mind a trade down at 19, if one of the TOP LT / DE is not there and than maybe select the top Centers and Guards in back to back picks then focus on our other areas of need / depth. This team can not afford any more reaches in the top 3 rounds! I like Hill but not in the First. Think TEBOW in the first, STUPID!!! I would have loved to get Mario Williams ( HE would have been the GREAT Equalizer to GB, not more WR's) but then we would have been financially overly stressed like that of the Redskins annually are. Since we did not get super Mario, it will not impact us negatively and no need to worry because he is in the AFC with the Billies...Mario should have went to CANADA if they would have payed the most cause he has the same chance of getting to a SB now!!. Top Organizations have and maintain roster / cap integrity and flexibility. Remember, you almost always overpay in free agency and to become a solid franchise like the Steelers / Ravens etc you need to improve your ability to draft quality players that will be around for several years. This is exactly why we needed a change at GM and why Emery was hired.
  20. JasonLaCanfora: RT @RickSmith1956: I was just informed by the Seahawks that Robert Gallery will be released. He played hurt all last year. Finally healthy!! If he is healthy - would he be an upgrade at LG?
  21. Yes, this was what I was thinking. If the players the Bears covet most are not there at 19 than I would agree a trade down may be the right thing to do. I just do not know who would be a good trade partner? The Texans at No. 26 are rumored to be looking to add a WR opposite AJ. So would a team like the Broncos No. 25 move up to No. 19 (Bears) to secure a DT that they are seeking?
  22. Courtesy of NFL Network here is a break down on WR Stephen Hill Stephen Hill - pro day video A little raw but seems to snatch the ball with his hands well to go along with nice size / speed attributes. I think Cutty would not mind breaking Hill in as a rookie ala Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal.
  23. That what I thought about our chances of landing Peppers and then trading for Cutler!
