I’m totally waiting for us to sign Willie Young. I’m thinking he’s not ready to practice yet. The only other possibility is that we genuinely believe we have something in some of our young guys. Although—I’m highly skeptical about this. Houston did look good with the Bears at the end of the year. But he was cut by the Bears. Cut by the Texans. Then the Bears have no interest in signing him. I suspect his career is over.
  2. Aren’t we still like 20 million under the cap? It’d be ideal if we used some of that to secure one of the lynch-pins of our defense. I’m not nearly as worried about extending Amos. He wasn’t even a starter at the beginning of last season and took the job when Quinten Demps was injured. Pro Football Focus ranked him as a top safety in the NFL—even though he only had one interception and one fumble recovery.

Does he have enough to work with? We had a top 10 defense last year. But we had a top 10 defense before Trestman took over. That demise can easily be blamed to the change in defensive personnel. But it also had to do with our fast paced offense. Fox was super conservative. Run. Run. Pass. Punt. 4th and inches? Punt. Milk the clock. This helped our defense a ton. This year everyone’s thrilled that we return our entire defensive back-field . . . That had 8 interceptions and few forced turnovers. We rely on our OLB’ers to generate pressure, and they are an unproven bunch. The only proven star of the defense is Akiem Hicks—every time I see him in a highlight real I swear he’s going to blow out his knee.

Lynch signed for 1 year, 4 million, with 1.25 guaranteed. He is by far the 2nd most established pash rushing OLB on the team. Granted—that ain’t saying much. He’s competing with guys named Fitts and Irving while Floyd is an injury risk. What Bears Fan NYC says is true—the 2nd OLB is less important. That being said, he still needs to be a threat to sack the QB. Sam Acho has had 4 sacks in 3 seasons with the Bears. He’s not a threat.
  5. Good information. I feel like there hasn’t been a ton of coverage like normal. I’m looking forward to attending this Friday.
  6. I’m in (My Deflated Balls). I gotta work on defending my championship. I plan on keeping Kareem Hunt with my 2nd round pick—which should be #11 overall. Not much value there but it’s the best I can do.
  7. Bears take DT Nichols from Delaware. He was projected as a 7th rounder. Can’t complain about DT but it always sucks when it seems like we’re reaching.
  8. So it’s a shot to Kwitkowski . . . Who after we drafted Roquan officially became a back-up ILB/special teams ace. Fourth round with so many needs—that’s pretty rich for a back-up special teamer. Good point about Hand. That would make sense.
  9. He’s 6-1 230. he’s another ILB—not an edge rusher. I’m not sure if he’s even listed in my draft guide. I can’t find him. Listening to the Score and Hub Arkush is like, “I don’t really know much about him.” Seems to be a reach for a position we didn’t need. Maybe we just boosted our special teams with a 4th round pick. . .
  10. Yikes. Another ILB and quite the reach. 6-1 230. Not a need and not much value.
  11. Last year we picked Eddie Jackson and Tarik Cohen in the 4th round. Jackson should be our starting free safety for years to come and Cohen will be an electrifying playmaker under Nagy. That’s a damn good haul. I’m excited for what today brings.
  12. Listening to the SCORE and they are talking about how Cody Whitehair was so much better as a center than a guard. That being said, do you think we worried about Whitehair snapping the ball? I’m okay with the pick as it fills a need. That being said, I was really hoping for Harold Landry or a trade down.
  13. Listening to Lawrence Holmes on the Score, “We HAVE to get a pass rusher here.” I gotta agree. But then we could still get a day one starter at offensive guard. AND we were probably trying to trade the rest of our draft last night for a WR. Ought to be interesting. On a side note, I’m kind of hoping we trade down just so I have an excuse to be invested the rest of the night.
  14. Damn! Hernandez gone! Probably didn’t fit our scheme anyway but damn he’d have been a day one starter.
  15. Interesting. I’m guessing at a minimum—it would have cost us a #2, #4, and next year’s #2
  16. Pace admitted that he was trying to trade back into round #1. When this broke, it was around pick #25. I assumed it was for either an o-lineman or edge rusher, the two most glaring holes , which are also the most important next to QB. There were no o-linemen or edge rushers taken at the end of the draft. That means there's a good chance that the guy we were targeting is still available. Any guesses who it might be? If he's still there, I'm sure we are offering a 2nd and 4th rounder to jump up a few spots.
  17. With Chubb gone there will be a QB available at #8. Do we trade down?
  18. That’s the first shocker of the night. I’m also surprised there have been no trades
  19. How did they not take Chubb????
  20. Denzel Ward!!! I’m thrilled with that because I don’t want a secondary player. Also, Cleveland didn’t trade down so there are still 2 QB’s on the board.
  21. I think that chat room we used to use is not defunct.
  22. Denver trying to trade up to #2. As per Adam Shefter.
  23. This is it. This has probably been done 40 times since Christmas, but as we are on draft night eve, I’ll throw it out one last time: My guy—Roquan Smith: Damn it’d be nice to get an immediate impact linebacker My Likes—I’d be happy with Quenton Nelson and Tremaine Edmunds I’d Hate—any secondary player. Please establish the front first.
  24. Thanks for sharing that. I always the Athletic has a lot of good stuff happening. But thee’s so much free stuff out there I can’t quite commit to an extra dollar a month or whatever it is. Several things jumped out at me but the glaring one is no Josh Allen. How did Jackson make it but not Allen?
  25. You don’t see Tremaine Edmunds at 8? Besides that, I see what you’re saying and I feel the same way. This draft does seem harder to predict than most. We were desperate for a WR when we drafted White and we needed a long term QB last year. This year? Quenton Nelson would be great . . . But he’s just a guard. Roquan Smith would be great . . . But he’s just an ILB. Tremaine Edmunds would be great . . . But he’s a project and reminds everybody of Leonard Floyd. With ANY secondary player, it’s not a great need and Fangio doesn’t value them nearly the way he values linebackers. Fangio values the secondary the way Belichick values running backs. Meaning, he can always find one and make them good. Not to mention, who is getting excited about a secondary player?
