Brady 4 games, next yr's 1st, $1M fine, & 2017's 4th
CrackerDog replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
My thoughts exactly. Brady got off easy compared to the team. The PFT article says first round PICKS as in plural. I assume they only have one pick in next year's first round but if they have two and they lost them both, that's very harsh. But well deserved, to be certain. -

We don't really disagree here. I didn't say Brady didn't tell those dopes exactly what to do. I absolutely think he did. But since the only evidence is them talking about it in texts, and as you admit, they aren't likely to throw Brady under the bus, this isn't going to hang him. I suspect the Commish is going to have to do something. I just don't think it'll be significant.

Goldman and Fabuluje don't finish drills at Mini Camp

Here's where I agree with you most. If this was a team without the terrible track record on breaking the rules I might go lighter on them as Commissioner. But they've cheated since Big Bill has been HC and it's documented. Unfortunately they'll probably get away with it because: 1.) They're the Patriots and the Commish pisses his pants every time he deals with them 2.) The proof in this case doesn't point to Brady aside from fairly asinine texts between two idiots I agree there needs to be some punishment. If the rule weren't important, why have it in the first place? And then all of the obvious lying and cover-up after the fact really does hit at the integrity of the game. We'll see how absolutely pathetic Goodell is when he makes his decision on this. It'll likely be that the footballs will end up in the same trash compactor the video tapes did.

I just read the difference between White's and Cooper's contracts is $6 mil guaranteed. Seems like a shitload given they were 1A and 1B in terms of WR's in the draft and some think White was better. Just the luck of being #4 vs. #7 I suppose. And it ain't like White is going to go hungry anyway. These two will be compared for years to see who got the better guy.
-
Apparently it's a 3 year deal and since he's cheap he isn't going to be a cap casualty. Someone else on their O Line might be but not him.
-
All I've seen is a few texts between a few ball guys suggesting Brady was implicated. But no smoking gun. If there is PROOF I think they suspend him. But with what I've seen, I think the commish will remain ball-free.

Jeff Dickerson is saying the Bears expect to have deals in place with White and Goldman by Friday. I think that means only Grasu is without a contract by the end of the week unless they get him done too.
-
Ha! No, I'm not. But he was moderately successful in 2013 and then the wheels came off last season on everything. So... Let's just say I'm hopeful that some of these turds can be polished up a bit.

Heck, Mills isn't as bad as we say he is either. Fans are fans. I'm certain our OL will be better this year than last.
-
I agree and I'm surprised Jason doesn't. He's big on OL so that's probably why but he's also all for modified BPA taking into account need, which the Bengals didn't really do very well, at least according to this article's author.
-
Well, in theory, they also got White and his 8+ years of time in the league over and above what Marshall would bring. Without all the drama. (Hopefully)
-
Ouch. I guess Hub is saying lawsuit so that'll probably be the way it goes.
-
Under the parameters proposed, any team giving him a short deal with reasonable money would be the front runner. He wouldn't want to lock in for UDFA money for a long contract. But you'd get a bargain for one season. All of this assumes he isn't guilty or otherwise tainted by the investigation.

As to yardage Fangio's D was in the top 5 for the last four years. Anything below average would surprise me and top 10, this year, is possible. So if anyone wants to bet me that the Bears have a top 16 (or better) D this season, name the charity that'll benefit and let's put our money where our mouths are. We can even have the bet go something like this: Top 10 - 100% of money paid to CD's charity by you Top 15 - 75% of money paid to CD's charity, 25% to yours (from me) Ranked 16 or 17 - 50% of money paid to each (we're both out $50, for example) Bottom 15 - 75% of money paid to your charity, 25% to mine (by you) Bottom 10 - 100% of money paid to your charity (be me) I'm willing to bet $100 on this. Any takers? Loser(s) would just need to post receipts showing the proceeds were paid to the charities.

I agree the D could step up to being pretty good given the talent they've added AND, most importantly, the coaching the team added. I think we'll see some of the holdovers playing much better this season because they won't be in the wrong place at the wrong time, ALL THE TIME.

Ha. Beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder. Bleacher Report, for example, gives us a B+ and the Bengals a D+. Link here: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2451415...l-32-gms/page/8

And this is why I choose to give the new leadership, even Emery/Trestman, time to show they've got a good plan before I start whacking away at them. Some here, before we've seen a single game, have written Pace off. In some cases that appears to be more about their own personal ego: not getting the GM they wanted in the first place, letting Marshall go, keeping Cutler, etc. Some are just always negative regardless so I discount them altogether. Let's be fair, the new staff looks like they know what their doing. This mess couldn't be fixed in 4 months but they've come a long way.
-
It'll be a while before we know anything about this draft. On paper you're right but frankly that's because for the first three rounds this draft was pure chalk. I'm not sure what that means. It almost feels like a young guy (Pace) not feeling confident in his own scouting reports just yet (too new a staff, his own experience and opinions not developed given all the transition in his life) so he went with consensus picks in areas of need. The best you can say about this draft is that he correctly noted our needs and made a good faith effort to fill those holes. I liked the draft. I'd give it a B to B+ but as is always the case, time will tell. Regardless, Pace is doing a great job. His overall body of work has exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to see this team hit the field in training camp.
-
Honestly I have no issues with this draft. Or the manner in which he handled FA and other personnel issues. I'm even OK with cutting Marshall loose now that we have his replacement. Younger and faster at that. And cheaper. And the coaching staff he assembled is downright amazing. There was a long way to go but we've made nice progress.
-
At a reasonable weight it then becomes about footwork and strength. Hopefully his only issue was extra pounds.

Maybe Pace thought this was the7th round?
