We are screwed at QB
I completely understand what you're saying, but the problem is that if both guys are mediocre, and both have varying upside/downside, and neither is the QB of the future, it makes way more sense to stay with the guy who you know, the guy who knows the system, and the guy who costs half as much. The variables here are overwhelmingly against the Bears' decision to get Glennon. The Bears essentially spent twice as much on a car that might drive a little faster, but also has a better chance of breaking down. What's more, they could have offered Hoyer more money and blown his socks off, then spent the rest to put the nail in the coffin of the Gilmore proposal. Instead, they got Glennon and were apparently cheap with their offer to Gilmore.

Bears Release Cutler!

Quintin Demps
That does make me seriously question whether the Bears would draft Jamal Adams at #3. I don't see how that would make sense at all since Adams is clearly more of a SS than a FS. Even scarier, would be using the #3 on an injured FS like Hooker. With this move, it appears certain the Bears have three options with the #3 pick: 1) Trade down 2) Jonathan Allen 3) QB

If Glennon completely shits the bed this year, and for any reason other than injury a backup gets into the game, Pace has to go. To spend that much when he had the option to spend about half as much for Hoyer is just not defensible. Hoyer accomplishes the same thing for the most part, and the extra money is there to sign guys like Gilmore and Jeffery.

We are screwed at QB
Here goes the agreeing thing again. There is just as much upside as downside with Glennon. The same can't really be said about Hoyer, however. His last two years have shown that at worst he's a safe QB, a check-down artist. At best, he not only keeps putting up huge passing numbers, he leads the team to scores as well. Then opponents realize they have to stop him from methodically marching the Bears downfield, and the long range passing opens up.

Are you saying this because they could essentially cut him after one year if he doesn't pan out?

If that happens, it's disappointing. Hoyer is less than half the price, and will likely have comparable, if not better stats.

That would be a pretty crazy draft. To snag Zay Jones so late seems really unrealistic. I really like the QB double-dip.

Are the 49ers cheating again? Remember when they got in trouble years back for circumventing the salary cap? They are signing EVERYONE this year.

OL Rankings are BS, especially if from PFF. There is no way all their OLs were wise collectively than the mess the Bears have had.

Big difference is, Cutler proved he has stud potential when he was with Denver.

It IS odd, but the main difference is I don't think the majority of Cutler's problems are his. If the Bears ever fixed the OL and had offensive weapons in the same season, there might be something to it. As it stands, they've only had a decent OL one year he's been in Chicago. No QB can survive under that duress, especially if it's compounded by a revolving door at varying stages of coaching/management. As for QBs, we agree because it makes the most sense to pay Hoyer less money than Glennon more money. Hoyer did well last season, bridges the gap, and would cost a bunch less. His unknowns are known. Glennon's unknowns could end up royally screwing the team's salary cap. Both are stop-gaps at best, so it doesn't make sense to pay a ton for a guy you don't view as a franchise QB. Hoyer and a rookie is the only option that makes sense in regards to money, salary cap usage, and team future.

Arthritis in both shoulders for Jonathan Allen DE
Could you imagine if the Browns did this? http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2017-nfl..._source=dlvr.it Garrett and Allen in the same draft?! Holy shit. That would definitely upgrade their DL, and vastly improve their D overall as a result.

What's your QB choice?
- NFL Free Agency thread
So he's got a strong arm, stands in the pocket too long, gets happy feet when in the pocket for a while, and needs to learn to step up in the pocket. So basically a long-necked Cutler? Awesome.- NFL Free Agency thread
Wagner is going to the Lions. Cross him off the list.- What's your QB choice?
Tyrod Taylor scares me. Virtually no Bills fan wants to keep him, and his stats don't jump off the page. He looks like an average or poor passer who takes off and runs more than most teams would like. The Bears need to move into the current century and invest in an offense that maximizes on passing-friendly rules. That means picking up a pocket-passer and protecting him with an offensive line that allows him to feel comfortable in the pocket.- NFL Free Agency thread
BM & OBJ is a scary combination. Both on the field and off.- What's your QB choice?
All this Glennon talk is disturbing. No way he's worth that kind of money. Cutler's better. Hoyer's better. I'd much rather save the money and build everywhere else. Sign Hoyer, pay him less, get the same production as Glennon, and use the surplus to fill holes.- NFL Free Agency thread
Yep. Same points being made in this article. http://beargoggleson.com/2017/03/07/chicag...elle-patterson/- My new favorite website
After that start, I probably wouldn't care much about the rest of the draft. That would be incredible.- Combine Open Thread
Oh I DEFINITELY don't want Peterson now. That's essentially the pool jumping dick head video, but in reverse.- Combine Open Thread
We can only hope someone trades up with Chicago. I don't want trubisky at 3 at all. If the Bears get a QB, it should be Watson, because he's destroyed NCAA football for two years. He's basically already beat what equates to a bad NFL defense. Still though, Chicago could use extra picks. - NFL Free Agency thread
