No GM is going to make every perfect move. SF traded 3 first round picks for Trey Lance and are in the NFC championship game right now with a 7 th round drafee at QB. It's all about winning, 2024 is when the fruits of Poles decisions will show up. High expectations in the 2 nd year is a little premature to make a judgement call.
-
Clearly you make your own judgement but Cliff Stein was loved by the McCaskeys and yet Warren got rid of him. Doesn't seem like the McCaskeys made that move. Flus is on a 4 year contract, no need to give him a contract now. Poles wants him here and their jobs are tied to each other now. I don't think he cares that you don't like it. So if we make the playoffs next year and go 11-6, will you change your mind about Flus?
-
With all that is going on with the Bears this season, you keep letting this bother you, I don't get it. You praise Poles on some things and then condemn him on hugging someone who you don't like, so it's inappropriate? If there was a video of him hugging DJ Moore, you would be saying what a down to earth GM he is for bonding with his team.
-
I'm not sure how to take this but the Bears put out a team promotional video that is all Justin Fields highlights. I guess the promotion department didn't get the memo.
-
No one has any idea how well this works out but on paper it looks like an upgrade. One year will tell us a lot about their ability.
-
I get the narrative , same old Bears but clearly the new people are running the team now, not the McCaskeys. So it's a different road we will be going down that may even end up being in the same place but is too early to tell. Stein being let go was a move the McCaskeys didn't like but it happened, proof their hands are off now. I remind people that a few years ago the Bears hired an offensive coach that was supposed to change everything. That didn't work out, the key is getting the right coach, I could care less if he's a O or a D, or STs. I just want a winner. One more year will prove if Flus is any good, clearly Poles thinks so.

There's a lot to talk about in the coming year but lets look at the good things that's happened in his first two years He took a terrible cap situation and turned that around in one year. We had the most cap space last year and top 9 this year. I think he cuts Whitehair and Jackson and adds 20 mil to our cap putting us top 5 . That's a win win. He took an old roster and ate lots of dead money to put us in a good space.Losing always comes with those decisions. In free agency he added ( core team players) Tremaine Edmunds, Demarcus Walker, TJ Edwards, Andrew Billings, Travis Homer, Karli Blasingame . In trades he got DJ Moore and Montez Sweat. In the draft : Brisker, Gordon, Braxton Jones, Darnell Wright, Dexter, Stevenson, Roshon Johnson, Elijah Hicks Sanborn, Terrel Smith, Tyson Bagent Trenton Gill Young unproven players: Tyler Scott, Doug Kramer, Ja'Tyre Carter, Noah Sewell, Zach Pickens, Jaylon Jones. This year he has pick 1 and pick 9, whatever he decides to do with the picks or trade them, it's going to be a positive. Also in 2025 we have an extra 2 nd round pick. I think he has done well in player acquisition so far with this year being the year we become a winning team. I think he makes another trade down this year for lots of draft capital and maybe another starter. His original plan was a 4 year rebuild and I think he sticks with the plan. He went from 3-14 to 7-10 ( should have been 10-7)and I think this year brings 10-11 wins and making the playoffs.

That's what I'm hoping for, a double dip and develop a QB over the next two years and then decide which way you go in 2026. Example, a good Alex Smith or a hotshot Patrick Mahomes.

I think with all the high end QBs , someone will a surprise pick and succeed. -

Not sure you should limit your depth on the basis the 3rd WR isn't getting enough touches. If we have a better offense there will be more plays per game,, giving an up tick in throws. -
I think when you call plays that all of the coaches have input into executing the defense. Flus has nothing to do with offense other than whether to go on 4 th down or punt. Seen Dave Wannsted interviewed and he said when he coached, they only have 7 total coaches and they all had multiple jobs. I would think an experience coach wouldn't have any problems with that arangement . Now their is 20 people doing the same thing.
-
I think if he has a personal relationship with him, why wouldn't he? It may well be a subtle action that means he's not going anywhere. GMs aren't robots or have to be politically correct in anyway. People get to do what they want.
-
I think any way they go they should praise Fields, it's real or it raises the price tag in a trade.

I always like to absorb new information to plug in the vault for further reference. I seen this draft trade with Atlanta in a mock: #1 pick, in return, pick 8, pick 43, pick 74, 2025 # 1 pick, 2026 # 2 pick and Drake London. I think he took Rome Odunze and Dallas Turner with pick 8-9. Would you make this trade? -
Never thought of it that way before but totally a true statement. He gets beat up all the time, never complains, never throws anyone under the bus. He's very supportive of his teammates, you never see him ego tripping. Plus has special talent you get to see frequently every game. Does he need to improve his passing skills, absolutely but we have seen him progress their also. If me move on from him, I see him being very successful with a better play caller and OL. Having to pay him big money in two years will affect Poles decision on him but that's why I keep thinking they keep him, draft a QB, keep trading back in the first round and get a McCarthy or Nix and worry about the payday in 2026. As you here people talk about Jackson in the upcoming game , I keep hearing them say that the most stressful aspect of defending him is his running ability. We lose that if we move on from Fields. He is the only equal running QB in the league in comparing him to Lamar Jackson. Baltimore designs there offense around his abilities and he has improved as a passer.

Thank you, I never thought I would ever get a compliment from you before.

Seriously? You form an opinion by absorbing information from outside sources. Things you read, thinks you watch. If you form your opinion by only looking at tape or reading a stat line, I'm totally done reading your posts. -
No where do I say you don't need a Franchise QB to win a SB. I make the point it's not only with a Franchise QB is why SBs are won. They are hard to find and some are won without them. Its not one or the other, it's about all the factors involved.

I don't think Foreman is coming back. He averaged 3.9 yards per carry and doesn't bring much to the passing game. They will draft one to go Johnson and Herbert. Love his passion but after the rest were healthy, he didn't get snaps.

I have seen 5 full games of Williams and. 3 of Drake Maye. How many did you watch? I'm retired I have lots time to vent everything. You assume because I watch 10 QB analysis videos, that I don't watch tape myself . I have NFL+, i can watch replay of all games , You always assume things and keep getting it wrong. -

So you're saying listen to no one , if you were lucky to pick one that was right , then you can claim to be smart. For example, I watch all of Greg Gabriel s podcasts. He was in the NFL for 20 some years. He has a large network that is still in the league, in college football. He's talks to people that are in on mettings, train players, coach players. He has more insight than a general fan does is he trapping me when he says Williams is a great passer but he has a few issues that need to be addressed to be selected number 1. He didn't mention the issues but said it will come out in the draft process. We will see as it develops. I trust him over your opinion. -
You are a loser until you become a winner. Teams that win SBs have many more strengths than just a great QB. Usually they have upscale coaches, player development, a great supporting cast. Usually a good a D, usually a good OL. Great QBs don't come around every draft, lots of experts tell you how good QBs are every year but most are not. Recent history since Mahomes came into the league ( he wasn't considered exceptional). Watson ( nah), Josh Allen(probably) but he hasn't won any SBs yet. Tua ( nope), Lawrence ( nope) , Burrows, tier 1 , ( no SBs), Herbert ( maybe but no SBs), . The point is their is only a handful of great QBs ever that have won SBs. Lots of not great QBs have also. Stafford, Eli Manning, Nick Foles. Now tell me who the next great QB is, and I will tell you (you should play the lottery.).

What we read, what we see is how we form our own opinions. Expects go all over the place with their opinions. So when you assess a player, you find people that think like you so you expand on their posture. Tape matters of course, can you see a persons character on tape? Can you see a persons work ethic on tape? You rarely see practices and how they get along with other players. All of that would be NO. PFF is all about stats, do they get it right every time. Most on here don't hold high regard for them. As far as games you see breakdowns by players, did the QB make the wrong throw or did the WR run the wrong route? It's such a complex problem diagnosing players. Some former players opinions go beyond just watching tape, interviews , talking to coaches, other players on the team. They have more insight in their opinions than fans. You can't measure how much they love football on tape. If you see all of those things watching ALL 22 tape, I think you need quit your job and get a scouting job immediately because you've special. -

The whole point of an analogy is about percentages, something you like to use, Doctor gets it right on a higher percentage than the cabbie. No one is right all the time. Clearly only KC thought Mahomes was special. Its simply a crap shoot.
