Week 18 Official Game Thread CHI @ GB, SUN 1/7, 3:25PM, CBS, CHI +3, 44.5 O/U

Poles gave a 6 th round pick for him to add depth to IOL and he's had some nagging injuries but has been healthy the last few weeks. He's in the same category as Patrick but is more stout at the point of attack . -

I'm down in Cabo San Lucas and went to eat , the Bears- Packers game in on TV losing 24-6 and thinking I got my days mixed up. I was freaking out their losing and realized it was replay of game 1. I still drank a tequila but felt better it wasn't game 17. -
I'm probably the biggest loser over the last few years, and it doesn't stress me at all. I try to think I'm smart but it's probably more about luck than football IQ. Injuries usually always derails my teams, but I like trying to be competitive and play GM, not sure I will ever grow out of that. We do it on here all the time.

QUICK HITS - Pick 3 Points and Give a Brief Explanation...
Stinger226 replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
I think he definitely hasn't shined as a HC, but his first year the roster was stripped down to probably the worst in the league. In his second year, he has shown growth and kept the players together with all the losing. That's hard to do. Poles picked him so he will have more patience than the fan base does. In today's society, everyone wants instant success, that's just hard to do. If we ever want stability it won't come changing coaches every two years. -
He is also under pressure at a high rate which affects his stats.
-
Poles is going to do what he thinks is best for the team but dont think he isnt listening to the locker room. If he picks another QB and he plays poor in the first season, he will lose the fanbase, locker room and the owners. Not good for job security.

Poles has set the habit of making one big contract per offseason. It may be bringing back JJ in a tagged spot. If he lets him walk, it may be a pass rusher or a FS. Jackson and Whitehair are gone, so that will give us more to work with. Centers can be gotten for 10 mil a yr and there are always a lot of Ss on the market. I think he drafts another weapon and pass rusher early in the draft. Then fills in with needs, more OL depth, DL depth.
-
Carter will be an elte player but we had to start building the OL and getting a potential all pro RT is no problem. I think because of all the complaints of fans of not having weapons for Justin led to the V Jones pick and Claypool acquirutition that were probbably not thought out very well.

That's how you attack the Bears on paper, quick throws underneath, there will only be a few passes down field. If they stop tyhe run and get a lead that will force Love into some TOs. They also know Patrick is a weakness so they will try to explote that. We need a lot of rollouts and RPOs. -
This is fantasy as far as tradebacks but I like Fantasy. We end up with pick 9 and 13.

This is the first time I seen this, anybody remember this? https://youtube.com/shorts/BkakoxJ16hA?si=LVCMOGVDWKJFLaKO

Davis had a bad year but you have to cut him some slack. His mom lived with him and was dying, then passed. It screwed up his preparation for the season and contributed to injuries along the way. His history is above average play with an attitude. His 2nd year is fully guaranteed. He's not going anywhere.
-
I'm not sure Poles drafts a LT. Braxton Jones is the feather in his cap. A 5 th rounder that started day one. He has improved over both seasons. Of course a high end LT would be better but redrafting positions this soon? Plus like you said, not paying a big contract.
-
I meant that our 2nd round pick is Sweat, we just got it in november instead of waiting for the draft.
-
We already used the second for Sweat, better than any second rounder you're getting to drafting. We have to remember that the Smith trade got us Pickens then he picked up TJ and Edmunds. The Carolina pick was DJ, Wright, Stevenson, this yrs one ,and a second in 2025. His ego will force him to try to top that. Perfect scenario, 10 teams need a QB, if not more.
-
Look at odds of last yr when Lovie handed us the #1, then the odds of getting it again. Could easily get us a top 5 next yr and another one in the mid teens plus ours. Its insane to think of that but it could happen. He would be crowned best GM ever.(maybe)
-
That's true but QBs get injured in the NFL, just look at this yr.
-
I can see us drafting a pass rusher like Bralan Trice, big, strong , never stop motor to pair with Sweat, great against the run and setting the edge and also some pass rush contributions. He is rated as a early second round.

Lets say we trade back to 3, someone might want to trade for MHJ, that would be another trade down with value as AZ54 stated. Lots of good WRs in this draft, not a problem finding one or just take Bowers and add one later. POLES HAS SEVERAL OPTIONS AND EVERYONE ONE OF THEM COULD BE A GOOD CHOICE, THERE IS NO LOSER CHOICES. There is a possiblity he could trade back 3 times with someone wanting Daniels or Penix, this yr could be crazy good for picking up multi blue chip players. Poles seems to have the nack for spetacular player acquisition.
-
You have used stats to argue both sides of the Fields issue and did both well. That this shows you stats can be misleading depending on the point you're trying to make. I try to look at it from Poles view. Justin has some talent but is not where he should be at this stage. That has some risk but you can win with him.(5-2) in the last 7 games soon to be 6-2. If you improve the roster with multi blue chip players, it only gets better. 80% of the fanbase loves Fields and wants him to stay. The majority of football people are on bring Justin back mode that I have listened to. You need to win in the next two yrs according to your original plans. He is relitively cheap for the next 2 yrs. Option B, find a Burrows type QB in the draft. Trade Fields for a 3rd round pick, maybe 2 and go forward with a rookie starting over. The risk that he turns out like Bryce Young for the first 2 yrs is more the norm than Burrows or a Mahomes. Stroud has look good for a rookie but which one is a Stroud. If you take a rookie and regress, huge hit against your job security. you not only have to sell to the fans but also to the team. Then to compound that, that draftee will be compared to Fields in every game, he could be better, then your job will be in jepordy by the end of the yr. This forum will trash you everyday. Option C, keep Fields and draft a prospect not in the first round, and try to develop him. Lets say Fields stays the same and doesnt get better, you will still have a winning record because you upgraded the roster .You can tell the fanbase you are developing a QB to take his place for 2 yrs while you are winning. Option C is clearly the safest bet for Poles to keep his job going forward. Hell he will get another high pick in nexts draft from a bad team and we could be talking top 5 pick again next yr with 2 first round picks and 2 2nd round picks in 2025, he could draft another QB if he needs to. If he adds MHJ or Bowers, maybe Nabers , Odunize plus another pass rusher. Any QB will look better with a top 5 defense and an improving offense. win win
