Im not saying any drafted RB would not be better than what we have, but think he will draft one later in the draft. When building a team, I dont think Poles invests in a position that was our biggest strength. There are a ton of RBs in FAgency this yr. Monty will have no choice but to sign back here at a reasonable rate. I think Flus likes the leadership, physically that he brings to the table. I think we are still first in rushing in the league. With that high of a pick in the draft as you projected HE AINT GRABBING A RB. I suspect if he adds one , it will be in the 4th round where we have two 4th round picks. FAgency will be before the draft wo we will know if Monty is back here or not.

Several reasons Poles went after Claypool. At the time the draft pick was lower but none of that matters. Claypool is as good as any of the FAs that will available this yr. This draft is not considered strong at WR. Their are 5 rated as first round draftees. Poles thought that was worth the risk to give this yr for Claypool and Fields to get familiar with each other. He is signed for one more yr so I suspect that came into play. He hasnt been targeted in the passing game very much and now hurt so this is a small sample size to say he is a bust. There are arguably only 20 WRs that are considered #1s in the league right now. Mooney was in the next tier not far behind the #1s. Claypool improved he WR room which will not show up this yr with his injury. It will probably not turn out to be the value of the high pick but that has not been determined yet. A big if , IF he does 70 rec, 950, 8 TDs next yr in a contract yr, if will have been worth it. You would need to compare it to what he would have gotten with that pick in the draft . I dont think Poles thinks he is a #1 so he was just upgrading the WR room

I liked all of it but dont think Poles drafts a RB at 39. He will be bringing Monty back and we have Herbert. He will be filling other needs. We are leading the league in rushing with 2 good RBs, no way he grabs one that high.
-
IF we had a #1 , the other WRs would look better, they wouldnt be getting the ball in critical situations. A #1, Mooney as a two and I expect Claypool play like a #2 next yr also. The key is we may just have to wait to dial in the passing game. If we get a high pick, teams like Seattle and Indy may be needing a QB, have them throw a Metcalf or a Pittman if we trade for them.

Hard to say how everything will play out but Poles is trying to build a consistent winner and in the draft that means best player available. I think he gets OL help in FAgency and tries to fill all needs so he can just take BPA in the draft. It may not be in the cards to get a #1 WR in the draft or FAgency so you just better at every other position and go with Claypool, Mooney, hope V Jones takes a step forward and the rash of other average WRs on the roster now. With Kmet, and RBs that can catch, it is not the bottom of the barrel with the passing game. I think next will be a vastly improved team and then maybe 2024 is the trade for Metcalf or whoever. Dont rule out a team that needs a QB that in the trade scenario to throw in a WR in the mix.

No matter what we may want or the GM may prefer, the players are playing for jobs and they have no intention of losing as far as effort. Philly has played close games in several this year. A TO could change the outcome of a game. A Fields 50 yd run could change the outcome of the game. I think they can compete for most of the game. Also the weather will not be nice, some Philly players could lack effort if they are winning toward the end of the game. Philly is bad against the run, we are the best running offense in the league.

Having the second pick is just a pipe dream, chances of it happening are higher, but I can see us lose the next 3 and then beat Minny, not the strongest team in the league. They were recently the underdog against Detroit as a 10-2 team. If we end up in top 5 , I would be happy. Carter and Anderson may be gone but we take the next best player. Murphy. Paris Johnson, Quentin Johnston. Or the best scenario to trade back. I would hate to trade back with Carter or Anderson on the board.

I agree with you, look at the most successful teams, NE, Pittsburgh, KC, they develop a winning climate. That's why I will say if they win their last 4 games that wouldn't be a bad thing. The successful teams pick last anyway, they still win. BUT I still want a tip 5 pick.

What does Poles do to make us a winning team in 2023 ?

I've looked on a bunch of Draft sites and have not found his name anywhere. I watch Highlights on the top edge rushers. Anderson is the dude but I also like Myles Murphy, Andre Carter II and Jared Verse had game to. Several rated high didnt impress me. Nolan Smith is fast but to small. Wilson and Foskey lacked something. -
If the players put it together and win some games, that just means that some of these players are getting better and that is not a bad thing. It would be nice with a high pick , but if we win a few and still hit the top 10, Im ok with that. I seen where PFF listed our OL as the 10th best right now. They are getting better. Granted its with a limited passing game but its progress. The lack of a pass rush definitely puts us in a bad way to try to win, but if we have a few TOs, that could change a game to. I want the high pick but it just turns out like it is. Being Minny isnt that good, they will be trying to win that last game. They are beatable.

That's not what I'm hoping for but with Justin at QB , he's capable of being a difference maker

What if we win our last 4 games? There not going out there to lose , what if Philly doesn't take this game seriously ?

I think Poles does draft a OT and OC in this yrs draft. I don't think he starts all over and forgot what he did with getting Learherwood and drafting B Jones. I think he lets them play out but brings in a 3rd or 4th round pick to compete with them. Mathew Bergeron, Blake Freeland, Carter Warren. Poles thinks he's a builder of the OL so he's not putting a bunch of first rounders together, he's going to show everyone how smart he is. I have looked at a lot of drafts stuff and never seen name T'Drondre Sweat before. -
At least I didnt finish last this time. 6-8.

I too question if Andersons size will translate. 6'4/243 In reading about Anderson , when he first got to Ala, he did a 4.34 40, and 6.67 3 cone. That is absurd. Parsons 6'3/245 Von Miller 6'3/245 I dont question that anymore. There is always doubt when NFL players are taken high. The 1st round has a 50% miss rate. Not that all of them are not good but never live up to their high draft status . If Poles is good at drafting he will identify good players in other rounds, but when you have a pick that high, you need to take blue chip players. If we only drop back a few spots we can still get one of these, but if we drop pass pick 5 they will be gone. We will never be picking this high again with Fields at QB, we have to take one of Carter or Anderson. I think in FA Poles will be bringing in a good 3T (DeRon Payne). Even if we bring in a FA edge rusher none of them will be as good as Anderson projects to be. I say take Anderson, then draft a Siaki Ika or Mazi Smith to go with Payne. Try Marcus Davenport-DeRon Payne- Ika or Smith- Will Anderson. I'll take that. -
Arguably played his best game and got hurt.

Obviously the more players we bring in will make us overall better in the long run but I dont think we make it back to the top 10 for awhile so we may want to take the generational player like Anderson or Carter because we may start wining sooner than we expect. It all comes down to the progress of Fields. If he goes off next yr that will push our playoff run window sooner. Barring trades if he gives us 3 or 4 new starters in this draft with a stud defensive player, the clock will start sooner. -
The problem now is Wilson was hurt in the KC/ Denver game. Not sure how that affects them going forward. With us getting some injured players back, as long as Fields is QBing, we are capable of winning all four games, highly unlikely. For sure Minny and Detroit is beatable. Remember that Philly lost to Wash, not known as a juggernaut.

Granted Gordon has not lived up to what Brisker has done but most 2 nd round picks dont gel in their first year. Brisker playing well is not the norm for rookies. It is noticeable to me that Gordon has gotten better than from the first game. His second yr will define what he is . V Jones has not did anything but did have some injuries coming out of camp that affected his learning process. It is not common for GMs to move on from high draft picks because they did not have a good rookie yr. I look at Sanborn since he started ,leading the league in solo tackles as a UDFA as remarkable to me. I will give you B Jones has gotten a lot better at a premium position. I think as he gains strength he will end up being more than an average starter in the near future which does make that a remarkable feat also.

We have a star on offense in Fields, we need to get Carter or Anderson to energize the defense. If we only drop no lower than 5 , I think that could still happen. If you want to use other picks to add some picks, go for it but don't overlook what those two would do if we got one. -

I've been doing a lot of drafts with the PFN simulator and one draft offered me trades from 2 to 3, 3 to 5 ,5 to 11, I was still able to draft Bresee and then Wilson. Also gave me 3 extra first round picks next yr. Dreaming is lots of fun. I think Poles is always going to be a BPA drafter but if we get a DE, DT and OL in free agency, it doesn't put pressure on Poles to reach for any of those positions in the draft. B Jones and Leatherwood are going to get first shot at the Tackle spots but think he will bring another OL to compete. That's what would be great if we got Elgton Jenkins, he could play any spot where someone would falter. -
I think Poles big move for a WR was for Claypool. The only other FA WR next yr that comes close to his equal would be JuJu and Jakobi Meyers. If he wanted he could sign either one of them. The draft is still a question mark as far as who is the best WR. right now Quentin Johnston is ranked between 10-15 spot that would be available when we draft. This class is not considered strong at WR. There is only 3 with potential first round grades. Quentin Johnston, Jordon Addison, J S-N (Ohio State) Unless we trade back I dont see Poles taking a WR with our first pick, so all of them could be gone by our second pick. I think he will be adding a WR but not early in the draft. We could be looking at Mooney, Claypool, V Jones, rookie, and two of these, Pringle-Pettis-Harry-ESB as our WR group.

Interesting article. Indy is in need of a QB, right now they are the 9th spot in the draft. With their schedule, Minn, Detroit, Chargers, Hou, they still could finish in the top 10. Would you trade the 2nd pick for a top 10 pick, plus a 2nd 2023, 2nd next yr 2024 and D Buckner and Z Franklin. Buckner will be 29 at 20 mil average for the next two yrs, and Franklin (27) is making 3.4 average for the next two yrs. Alternative would be to pay DeRon Payne 15- 20 mil if he doesnt get tagged, and just resign Morrow which has TT 84 , TFL 9, 0 sacks. Alternative draft Jalen Carter and resign Morrow. What would you do? -
As of right now, Sanborn is averaging 12.1 plays a game ( TT 54. TFL 5, 2 Sacks) (5 games) Zaire Franklin (INDY) leads the league with 10.7 plays per game. TT 130, TFL 9, 1 sack Rashaan Evans leads the league in TT 134 with 5 TFL and 1 sack Roquan Smith TT 114. TFL 7., Sacks 3.5 If he started all the games he could lead the league at less than 1 mil a year. This is Poles best find of the year.
