He may not be the speed demon or athletic monster but maybe he can catch the ball.

Just watch a game and you can watch Fields get hammered by someone almost every play. You only need one guy to get beat. Yes he holds on to it to long but that is fixable as he is more trusting of his WRs. He's thinking to much.

I think you never try to lose, Poles is trying to build a team and had a difficult situation trying to change our cap problems and bring in players that may have potential. A few are going to stick. Watts, J Jones, Morrow, and then build threw the draft. Still lots of questions to answer but if the season ended today, Brisker, Gordon, Jones, Ebner, Gill, Roberson, and Jones will end up being team builders. V Jones being hurt thru the pre season up till now prohibited his growth. Definitely not a punt returner. They know that know and will gradually work him into the offense. We still have some high end draft prospects that still have time to prove there worth. Leatherwood, Harry, Kellen Diesch, Joel Blackwell, Tevon Wesco , Sterling Weatherford. Next yr we will add WRs from FA and the draft. We will add to the OL and DL. The question will be answered on Roquan Smith . I think we keep Monty to a team friendly contract. I think Fields proves his status, hopefully he can stay healthy. Our core: J. Johnson, Jackson, Brisker, Gordon, Vildor, Morrow, Roquan, Robinson, Gipson, Al-Q Muhammad, Watts, J Jones, B Jones, Whitehair, Jenkins, Borom, Kmet, Monty, Herbert, Ebner, Fields, and Mooney. A few more could still prove themselves this yr.

We were on national TV which exposes Fields to the rest of the country. If any of those teams are winning it quiets the negative. I think a lot of it has to do with the national take being, not very good, so they just like to say they were right.

Am I missing something? He only has 4 catches on the year. Not sure that will qualify him as a top 10 pick. He has 4.52 speed which isnt great . I think they will take the best player available. That could be OL, DL or WR. I think we will have a high enough of a pick to get a good WR in the first couple of rounds. If we end up top 5, I bet he trades back for more capitol first.

First of all we are not going 2-15. We have two potential losses in NE and Dallas but after that, although I lowered my predicted win total from 9 to 7-8 and down to 6-7. Our DBs are just going to get better and better. Our forcing TOs should rise with that improvement. If we start doing some more blitzing to get more pressure, that will affect the pass rush going forward. Our weakness will be against the run but if it forces teams to run a lot, it will keep scores down to where we can still be in games late. We seen some improvement in the Wash game although they arent very good at that. Our OL will improve once Whitehair is back and Patrick moves to OC. Jenkins, Jones and Borom should improve going forward to cut down on mistakes. The coaches will adjust to keep Fields more upright. I think the short week hurt on preparation to the last game. We gave that game away with impotency in the red zone. I am optimistic that we will improve going forward. We could have won any of our last 3 games. Even in the GB game , GB had a goalline stand with 8 minutes left. If we punched that in 24-17 would have put us with a chance at the end of the game. I think every game is going to be a fight but they all will be close to give us a chance to still win at the end of the game.

I listened to some NFL pundits , Trent Dilfer and Jim Miller and they had good prospective on the game. Jones had a bad game but after watching it, he rarely had help on the outside. We run better when the FB is in. Fields problems according to them were not enough time, thinking to much, tried to fit the passes into windows instead of just throwing it to the WRs Trust issues. All of that is fixable. Also stated that Getsy has his hands tied because of the weaknesses at WR and the OL. The only thing I see he needs to do is roll out Fields more . The coaches are all in a learning curve just like new players. I am not sure Leatherwood helps us this year. He started all of last year and was the worst rated RT at pass blocking, our weakness. Harry may be able to help in both the running and passing game. Leatherwood may be the long range RT with Borom being the swing OT. This game was so winnable with being in the red zone 3 times. And the last play of the game was 6 inches away from a win. The defense played well. Watts and Jones are good rotational players but we still need a stud 3T that I suspect we draft. I think we resign Monty but to a team friendly contract. He is overall a better player than Hebert. We have a nice mix with both. The DBs will be the strength of the D going forward. Johnson, Brisker, Gordon, Jackson and Vildor is a good mix .

Poles came in last yr with a huge job trying to fix our roster with limited cap space and draft picks. His philosophy was build thru the draft and sign club friendly FAs. In the draft he took the best player available. WR: All the best WRs were either tagged or traded. You had Kirk, A-Rob, JuJu, D J Chark, MVS, Landry. There was no way we could afford to pay Kirk 17 mil a yr., or JuJu 10 mil. The only one that may have worked out was Jarvis Landry but at 29 was not in the youth movement ideology. Drafting a WR: at 39, Pickens, Pierce, Sky Moore were available. At 71 instead of V Jones our choices were David Bell, Jalen Tolbert, Danny Gray. We had so many weaknesses, would we be better off taking Pickens or Pierce or David Bell or Tolbert instead of Jones, only time will tell. OL: We tried to get Brian Allen, Joe Noteboom and Ryan Bates. We struck out on all of them but we didnt have the money to get in a bidding war. Bengals signed, Cappa, Karras, and Le'ul Collins. In 2019 they had a first round pick Johan Williams. There OL is not very good. With limited space we werent going to get the better OL players. We could have brought Daniels back but was he worth 9 mil a yr? DL: We tried to get Ogunjobi but he is doing anything in Pitt at 8 mil this yr. The other best choices got paid big contracts. Poles is clearing going with development of the two young OTs instead of Rieff or Schofield. So we are stuck with their learning curve. Whitehair and Patrick injuries have disrupted the IOL. Whitehair is our best OLmen and I think we dont have any options till he gets back in 3 weeks. I think Jones, Whitehair, Patrick, Jenkins and Borom are the best options we have. In 2023 I think we keep Whitehair, Jones, and Jenkins. Borom gets upgraded and we find a new OC. Jones will play out to see if we need to upgrade LT. In 2023 RTs choices are Eigton Jenkins, Conklin, or McGlinchey. OC choices are Mitch Morse, Quessenberry, or Bradley Bozeman. WRs: JuJu, Lazard, Agholor, Chark, Jacobi Meyers, and Landry. They is no #1s WRs in FA so we will have to draft one but can upgrade our WR room with JuJu and a Jackobi Meyers. In FAgency I would like to sign Jenkins and Morse, and if LT doesnt work out , draft one. I think Poles tried to fix the OL , how different would it be if we got Brian Allen and Ryan Bates. Hard to compete with the Rams and Bills for those players. I think we stick with developing Fields because with a high draft pick we would try to draft a QB that has the same traits that Fields have, just commit to Fields.

Jenkins is a good watch. He is on the Score every week and has some good comments. I also like Swift Sports network too.

Fields had his hiccups but two players over the last 3 games have cost us wins. V. Jones and IS-M. Take those plays away and we had a good chance at wins. My takes: Fields is a tough kid , he keeps getting up after being beat up every game. I think I only saw one roll out. I dont get it, you have a strong D line your playing and you keep putting him in a pocket. V. Jones and IS-M need to be sitting on the bench. We need to find some WRs that can hold on to the ball. Defensively we played well, we had timely blitzes that Williams doesnt normally do. Is Fields missteps because he keeps getting beat up and is getting gun shy plus not trusting WRs to catch the ball? There were other WRs open but keeps feeding Mooney. I dont think there is fixing the OL or WR room during the season. Whitehair comes back and moving Patrick to OC is about the best we can expect. Whitehair cant come back until Nov 6 against Miami. 2 more games of this crap against good defenses. I listened to Jim Miller on the Score around 1230 today, and was very insightful. He made a lot of good points about the development of Fields. Instead of throwing it to the WRs he is trying to guess what the WR will be. Example when he led Griffin to much. Everyone was saying Griffin slowed down but he was wide open and just throw and hit him in the numbers. He thinks to much. Example he had Pettis wide open across the middle but tried to hit Mooney because he trusts him more. You can replay the Score on Audicy if you didnt hear it.

I dont know if he would be better but I do know, he cant be worse.
-
In order to be an effective TE, you have to give him targets, they now are trying to do that. They are changing strategy to get the ball to the more consistent targets, Mooney and Kmet. It will get better.
-
Quinn is not producing, why would anyone trade for him? We will have to consider adding a pass rusher in the draft considering we dont have a consistent rush.
-
Harry was the best blocking WR in the league last yr. I can see him playing a lot but more in run situations. Wentz is up and down a lot, he is going into the game hurt, so if we finally can get a little pressure, he should turn the ball over. We havent been blitzing at all, maybe to generate a little more pressure, we need to add that in. Roquan and Brisker in blitz mode wouldnt hurt.
-
Everyone has an opinion, I absolutely love when national pundits say something positive about Fields because that is rare. I think we could be seeing him progress into an top 10 QB, not necessarily this year but going forward. With a challenged OL and WR room, he still can show progress into a top QB.
-
Roquan is a 5 year piece that will contribute to us winning. Quinn isnt playing well enough to command a high draft pick in a trade.

I was putting a Gazebo together for my daughter and was listening on the radio. It was 21-3 when I started to watch, and then it started to change. You have to give the coaches credit, they have these players believing they can win and usually show up after they adjust. Itmir Smith-M actually lost that game for us. He had a penalty on the Fields run that was called back that we had to settle for a FG. Then instead of going out of bounds, Smith-M makes a play to the right and gets the ball taken out. If that didnt happen , I totally believe we would have tied the game. Not sure if we would have won, but I dont feel bad after this lost. I normally bang my head against the wall when we lose but didnt feel like it this time. Barring injuries, we will slowly get better and the second half of the season will look a lot better. The second half, the OL played excellent. It didnt seem like the same line. Of all the teams I follow , I am not sure why, but the Bears are the only team that bums me out when they lose. It literally bothers me all day while I listen to Bears talk after the game. They are starting to get Kmet and Mooney involved in the offense. We just need one more WR to show up regularly and our offense will look much better. I have to say that one catch by Mooney was one of the best catches in the league all year. That reminded me of Beckham Jr when he first came into the league. That ball went 50 yds in the air and Fields put that in the only place he could have caught that.

A lot of pundits say we didn't upgrade the positions around Fields enough to get an honest opinion on his future. I'm not sure how we could have did that was the cap situation we were in. Poles decided to bring in a bunch of FAs with potential rather than spend the money on a rob or someone like 17 mil for Kirk. If you look at production, the only WR among FAs is Kirk at 10 and no other ones in the top 40. I don't think Kirk is a #1 but he is being paid as one. I don't think any FAs would have been successful in our current offense the way its been playing. We didn't have enough money to upgrade the WR, OL and defensive backfield in 2022. We didn't have a first round pick or enough high picks to address all of our weaknesses in1 draft. I guess I'm saying Poles did the best he could considering the situation he started with. He did set up next year to be a game changer as to upgrade our overall talent. I still think we will see improvement and 7-8 wins down from the 9 I originally thought would happen.

Bears beat writers always complain when coaches arent transparent with them, but most of the time, less information is better. Efus early week statements have changed later in the week, but still may have Mustifer in the game. I would have to say, its probably because of a lack of trust with the backups. Hopefully, Sam is sitting on the bench.

What I find interesting is the PFF scores for Jenkins is low and yet he gave up no sacks or pressures. That is what is confusing on how they grade. It is a combination of line misses, Fields missteps and some on play calling. We need to be more consistent to get a flow for our offense. As much as we see lots of negative, I think we are improving. There is only a handful of plays, that if successful, we would have won the game. Obviously we need to upgrade our talent, but for example, if our edge protection was good, Jones runs would have been minor and the whole game is different. We are not going to stop Cook but we need to stop him from chunk plays. Also Jefferson is going to have a big day but if we can keep him from TD plays, we have a chance. Vikings defense is suspect, If we can keep our mistakes low, we have a chance to go off with our offense. Something that could make a difference if how physical we are playing. A ton of Giants were injured and if we can disrupt their play , later in the game it should help. I think this will turn out to be a GB type game , 27-10 but if we can make Cousins uncomfortable in the pocket, we should get some TOs. That may change the outcome of the game.

Why tell your opponents where your oline weakness is going to be. Harrison Phillips is the starting NT and he's not big or over powering. Watching tape, Vikings will be blitzing up the middle, we need to move the pocket to limit their blitzing. Their defense isn't very good, so hopefully the game plan exploits them.
-
C, you have to try something else because Mustifer isn't working.
-
The Oline keeps blowing up our offensive production. Fields inconsistent decisions doesnt help. Unfortunately we have to be almost error free to win a game. Whitehair is the worst thing that could have happened for the line to get better. Its odd that the line blocks well for the run but are so bad in pass protection. We just need to scheme more quick passes, runs on the corners and stay away from penalties to improve our offensive production. In the last game trying to stop Barkley was near impossible but we would have won the game if we controlled the edge with the Jones runs. We can gain more consistent play and still struggle to win because we just dont have enough good players at several positions. Injuries has contributed to our poor play but we cant control that. I think as much as Patrick is just average it would help a great deal if Mustifer isnt taking snaps. Hopefully Carter or Schofield can be more consistent going forward. Teven Jenkins on the field all the time would help a lot. He hasnt given up any penalties or sacks. Is one of the best RGs are far as giving up pressures in the league. The OTs need to improve but show some promise. We get in to many 3rd and longs. We need to pass more in our 1st and 2nd downs. There are several football people that have pointed out that with our center putting his head down to hike the ball, he is missing on some Oline line calls for protection. They suggested Guard recognition and then they touch the center to hike the ball. To many times the OC is getting blown up.

We play on Thursday next week, can we look this bad as Broncos and Colts?

Here is a more in depth video by Jenkins. He leaves room for optimism looking at Justin Fields from the overall take on him that is not good. I think one of these games he will explode and have a career best game and quiet all the negative talk.
