I seen that but i was referring to picking a player over another player because of his combine results
-
There is risk for any QB at #3, I would rather have a all pro type drafted than end up with a Jake Locker, or Christian Ponder at that stage. No matter how much you want a QB this is a bad year for QB. One may shine and a couple others end up back ups, but there is no cream of the crop in this draft.
-
The combine results are interesting but if you draft a player because he has good combine results, you will lose more times than you win. Thomas is more of a edge rusher where Allen is more of a 5T. Both are needs in this offense, and would have no problem with either choose.
-
Both Allen and Thomas will end up being good players and would not have a problem choosing either. I was wanting Adams, but think a stud on the line would have more of an impact and then take Baker in the second and still would be getting a difference maker in the back of the defense. So any of those three would be fine with me, but I more wish to move back in the draft and get more choices but that is out of our control.

Pace the last two years chased high end free agents but would only go so high before it became to risky to pay big money. I personally dont think Gilmore or Bouye are worth their contracts but would still like to have seen one,but Pace is bend on building through the draft and has set values on free agents. I think once we are ready to make the leap and need a few players to get over the hump, he will pay the big money. we are just at least one ,probably two years away from that moment. Every good team has gotten there by drafting well, we are trying to become one of those teams. I think the jury is still out, but if White comes through this year, and we have another good draft, then I would say we are on our way to being one of those teams.

The first 3 QB prospects are large question marks to be drafted at the front end of the draft. None will make it out of the first round, they will be over drafted. I look at Draftcoundown for some of my information on the draft. He has Kizer rated 18th Trubisky is 31th Watson is 36th Mahones is 41 Webb is 88 Kaaya is 93 Peterman is 142 Dont know about the rest but I think the first three are realistic So from what I read, Webb and Perterman has got some scouts thinking. So I propose we wait into the 3rd round and try to get Perterman or Webb and hope one develop. The frist 3 have more upside, but the their value does not match a high pick in one.

The key is how White turns out, if he takes off, he is our #1 and everything falls in place. Health is always the equalizer. Another part of that combination is if Glennon is at least a 13-16 ranked QB type. For him to be successful our OLine needs to play well. On the positive: the Oline plays well Glennon does 3800 yards-26 TDs and 12 int. White becomes a #1 then Meredith is our possession receiver and Wheaton or speed component. Wright is successful at the slot and Sims steps up-Miller stays healthy. If you look at it that way could be pretty surprisingly good. Many things have to happen but I think its looking up. I think we add a WR in the draft and another TE. I think Brown ends up being a productive TE as Miller fades into the sunset.

I would be good with that.

We brought in Vance Walker today, he has had some injuries issues the last few years but he last time he played the whole season, he had 40 Ts and 3 Ss. You figure anybody we bring in knows Goldman is the starter so , it will be a backup role, may be a good pickup.
-
I think by our FAs aquired , I think it pretty well tells us , he is going DL in the first. So if he takes BPA as far as second and third, that will be DBs since they are strong draft postions. Areas we need to upgrade besides the back of the D, is our OTs. If we trade back in the first round, anybody have a probably with taking a OT at 1?
-
I read a article about why we had to make that offer, Miami was also in the bidding and had to go higher to get him. GASE wanted him, sounds like a plus to me. Watch some tape on him, like Grizzy said, may turn into a gem. Similar to Bennett.

I think because of their body styles, Thomas probably has more sacks but not as good against the run, where as Allen is more all around. Is 8 sacks and a stud against the run, better, or 12 sacks and less run defense?

arthritis is an inflammation issue and at a young age is different than when you get older. Im a plumber and when I had my knee surgeries in my 20s, the arthritis that set in didnt really bother me until I got in my 40s. I do not see Allen's issues with his shoulder ever affecting his play during his twenties. It is just a pain tolerance thing, and pro athletes get the best drugs.

If you thought all we needed was changing the oil, its overhauling the engine. Its not a one or two year job.
-
Amother thought, is Butler worth our 2nd round pick?with Gilmore getting paid , he would never be happy in NE without the same money.
-
Whitehair will end up being our best lineman, long with the injuries is a step downgrade. Cody will not be a all pro at LT but he will be a 10-12 range. Put him there and utilize the ability of grasu and make the line better.
-
I agree that is a strength but if Grasu is better than Leno on the outside, playing the best 5 may come into play.
-
A couple of thoughts came to mind on the roster Does anybody think that is Grasu is up to par, his upside would put him back at C and move Whitehair out to LT? They are almost the exact same size , Leno's arms are 1 and 1/2 inches longer but I think Cody could absolutely handle the spot.
-
To be honest, I would be happy with either one.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2016/ Here is the list of contracts from last year. If we look at all the contracts over 7 mil per year average how many were successful? the list has 17 over 7 mil of those you would only consider 5 to be over whelming successful Vernon/DE Mack/OC Harrison/DT OsemeleOG Jenkins/CB another 3 you would say was worth it Brooks/OG McLeod/FS Irvin/OLB out of 17 50% stuck out out of our free agents Freeman - huge success Trevathan- jury still out Hicks- huge success Sitton-huge success Massie- average value those are the players over 5 mil I would have to judge the way Pace is doing this is working
-
I can see where Thomas may end up being a Justin Smith type but from day 1, Allen will be a good player. His medicals are mute and we have had two meetings with him. If we get 8-10 sacks a year from Allen that makes him valuable enough to solidify the front 7.
-
Unless we move down in the draft and grab OJ Howard, Miller will be here this year.

We missed out on the top 3 CBs, Gilmore was never coming here when you compete with NE you will lose every time. I read where we offered the same money for Bouye and one extra year but A.J. choose Jags because of the weather and no income tax in Florida, ouch. Ryan was a good CB but not a shut down corner so I did not see us giving him big money to chase, plus Tenn is a better team right now. So , we did not add any stars but maybe we add a couple of Akeem Hicks type to this team. Sims got over paid but we absolutely need a blocking TE, I see us doing more 2 TE sets to help the running game and need someone like him. We also will be drafting one,so I think this TE spot will be solid but not spectacular. We added two WRs and lost Ashton , I think he was leaving no matter what , so hopefully one of these two Wheaton or Wright play well. Compton is just veteran depth. I would say we may draft a OT but not high so we will be seeing the same OTs as last year. The only other way to upgrade will be a Sitton situation where a older vet gets cut. Glennon is a necessary evil, no sure things in draft and no other FAgents worth grabbing. I think the Bears are taking a lot of heat for competing against themselves but dont buy that. When your negotiating, you dont know what the other teams are offering so when you make your final offer, if you want the player bad enough, you over pay. We will draft a prospect but do not see it being in the first 2 rounds. Maybe Peterman, Webb, or a Chad Kelly -Jerod Evans fall into place. We added a CB and S of which is an upgrade to our team but still do not have that difference maker, I think we add a S and CB and hope some of our draftees develop into that player. I think in FAgency we still bring in a DL guy more to back up Goldman at NT more than a high pay guy. We may still be adding another safety , someone like Butler or Jaruis Byrd, more for depth than as a starter. So in the draft I think all of this points to us taking Allen with the first pick. The best case senario would be to trade back and that is still a possibility because of the need for QBs. Jets pick 6th and have an extra 3rd rounder, so we would have to get their second and a third to make that trade viable. Cleveland is loaded, so if they do not get Jimmy G, trading up from 12 is a stong possibity. Maybe NOs wants to add a top WR and have a lot of picks now. So lets say we trade back with Cleveland and get there 12, 2nd, 3rd and a fitth. I used Draft countdowns 300 player rating to view who would be there 1 (12) here we have a choice of best LT that would be starter but not an all pro type. Roberson or Bolles could be this pick. 2a budda Baker/FS a quality football player. 2b Gareon Conley/CB a potential shutdown CB. 3a Zay Jones/WR a potential #! 3b Brad Kaaya/QB our prospect we have given attention to 4a Tanoh Kpassagnon/5T a huge man 4b Jaleen Johnson/DT a good player at this spot 5a George Kittle/TE a good blocker with catch ablitity 5b Ejuan Price/Edge a short but a McPhee type of player 7 Zane Gonzalez/K we will bring in some new blood
-
I think your right, the only thing I would like is the NT backup upgrade. Sutton is not really that person.
-
I think in the end, he would be the #2 CB on the team, we still do not have that shutdown corner, but its an upgrade over last year. You are right, you bring enough players in , you hope one shines, I still think we draft one high.
