I think the Bears think they got a OL that can play several different  positions which works out very well as a backup.

sure, but their starters are backup level too, so they probably think they are creating a competition, so musical chairs again.

Damien Williams coming to town.

Hmm...I recall him being the big hero in SB two years ago. Sounds like he has a history of injury BUT took last year off to care for a family member.  So hopefully that translates to a good role player(?).  Familiarity with both Nagy in KC and Lazor in Miami.

KC fans aren’t happy about him leaving so that’s encouraging.

I have to say, obviously we all have varying issues with Pace, but one thing he seems to be pretty good at is filling out the roster prior to the draft with players with starting experience so that he can go into the draft without a true need and go by his board. I mean, as things stand now, I’d say the only position we probably still need to address is starting caliber safety (even though I happen to think Deon Bush can still be pretty good) and maybe another veteran body at WR.  There are lots of those still out there and I imagine those will still be addressed.

Updated as of 23MAR:

GAINS:
Dalton, QB (replaces Trubisky) - upgrade
Trufant, CB (replaces Fuller) - downgrade
Blackson, DL (replaces Urban) - wash
Attaochu, OLB (replaces Mingo) - wash
Wilkenson, OL (replaces Coward) - wash
Jones, LB
Willams, RB (replaces Nall) - upgrade

LOSSES (with snap counts):

Offense (Team High= 1066):
Trubisky, QB (570)
Massie, OT (470) + ST (26)
Coward, OL (333) + ST (73)
Harris, TE (215) + ST (169)
Patterson, KR (201) + ST (146)

Defense (Team High= 1060):
Fuller, CB (1060)  + ST (87) - Most snaps on defense, ouch!
Gipson, S (1054) - 3rd most on defense, ouch!
Skrine, CB (557) + ST (81)
Mingo, LB (390) + ST (374)
Urban, DE (370) + ST (158)
Robertson-Harris, DE (245) + ST (80)
Jenkins, DT (223) + ST (48)
McManis, S (25) + ST (205)

I only included players with at least 100 snaps.

So the 3 biggest losses are still Fuller, Gipson, and Patterson. So if we can get a CB and Safety, this team should technically be better than 2020. Dalton is an upgrade, Williams as a change of pace back is something we lacked. Now Cohen becomes more explosive and Patterson is not running into the back of the O-Line. Attaochu is at least equal to Mingo and may actually be better on the Edge. Blackson is like a poor man's Hicks and should be able to match Urban's production and snap count. So the more I look at it, if the team can get S, CB, and the WR or OL, I think we will be pretty solid.

Some FAs I would like to see come here.

CB- Gareon Conley or Bashurd Breeland or A J Boyue

RB-Duke Johnson or Damien Williams

SS- Gibson should be the choice but literally 10 out there that would be okay.

WR- Snead or Damarcus Robinson or Kenny Stills

TE-  Tyler Kroft

Nice one Stinger! I was thinking Josh Reynolds at WR.

According to an article on Bears.com Burns tore his ACL in August in training camp?

Quote

Burns, 25, originally joined the Bears last March after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Steelers. But he tore his ACL during a training camp practice in August and spent the entire season on injured reserve.

Aren't Skrine and RRH both gone?

By Paces signings in FAgency, he is trying to fill needs with stop gap players so he can freely take the best players in each rounds.

QB     Dalton - I think he will be an upgrade over Foles and if the support group is upgraded, we can make the playoffs with him.

RB      Williams upgrades the RB room. With Cohen coming back this should be a strength. The biggest upgrade will not be trying to fit Patterson in the running game.

WR     Pace has yet to upgrade hear. Miller could be gone so I see this as a potential first round pick.

TE      Keeping Graham helps although I think they should  ask him to take a pay cut. I think Komet has a breakout year, so we should be Okay at TE

OL      Bringing in Wilkenson and reupping Ifedi suggests they may not upgrade the OT position in the first couple of rounds. (mistake) I would love them to take Teven Jenkins at 1.

CB      Fuller is gone but with Burns being resigned and Trufant coming in, it will be in better shape  than it looks. Also this could be a high round pick if the value is there.

S         DHC and Bush coming back gives us the depth, also dont forget we sighed Jordan Lucas last year and he opted out. IF we can upgrade Gibson or bring Gibson back we will be ok.

OLB      Jeremiah Attaochu is an upgrade over Mingo in the pass rush part of the game. Quinn can not play as bad as he did last year so we should get an upgrade here. Also T. Gibson should make a contribtion after his rooke year should very little.

LB         Jones is an upgrade over Iggy and Woods for sure.

DL         With them keeping Hicks (so far) and Goldman coming back this should be a strength again. Also Nichols should take a step forward and Blackson was a good addition.

So the draft first 3 rounds could be any one of our needs. CB-QB-WR-OL. With three picks , I can see Pace moving back to get an extra 3rd or add a 4th and address all of those positions taking the BPA at our spot.

By Unit offseason changes:

QB - upgrade (Dalton is better than Trubisky and Foles)
RB - upgrade (Williams and Cohen back)
WR - no change
TE - no change
OL - no change

DL - upgrade (Goldman back, plus add Blackson)
LB - upgrade (Attaochu and Jones) > Mingo/Woods/Iggy
CB - downgrade (Loss of Fuller, gain Trufant, and Burns is re-signed)
S - downgrade (Loss of Gipson without replacement)

ST - downgrade (Loss of Patterson)

So it looks like outside of two positions on defense (CB and S) and KR, we are already better than last year. The defensive front-7 is going to be crazy good and may make up for the loss of Fuller.

Is Gipson gone or you counting all FAs as ‘losses’?

Yep, he is in the losses until he re-signs.

These are the current losses, if they have a strikethrough, that means the Bears have signed someone at their position.

I see you already had Coward as a loss here but just saw the story about how and where he went.  Funny back story.  (PS: he signed a THREE YEAR DEAL?!?!).
