Week 15 Official Game Thread - CLE @ CHI, 1200 SUN 12/14, FOX, Bears -7.5, O/U 40.5

Featured Replies

This is now a must-win, mainly because the Bears have to win games they are favored to win at home. With GB playing in DEN and DET playing LAR, there is a chance that both GB and DET lose, and CHI wins, which would reset the division back to the way it was before the loss to GB, making the Week 16 rematch even that much more important.

CLE's defense is no joke. They are pretty much a top 5 defense across the board. Their offense looks more explosive with Sanders at QB. This is going to be an ugly FG war.

Bears 20-16.

It's interesting because the Bears could win their next two games and still miss the playoffs if they lose to SF and DET.

Beating CLE or GB + SF and DET guarantees you a playoff spot because you'd win the tiebreaker against the 49'ers if you both finish with 12 wins. With 11, you'd need them to lose to SEA in that last game, which would be so terrifying to have to sit through. Either way, this is quickly becoming the most important game left on the Bears schedule, especially if Detroit beats the Rams this week.

I'm rooting for Rams hard - I think if Rams beat Lions that helps out quite a bit.  Reality is we are in control of the playoff destiny - but the probability/odds are tough. I still think if we win 2 games we should be in, but that is easier said than done.  Have to show up and play strong against Browns....lose this game and the road gets a lot tougher (and it's already tough enough).

Many games of the last 20 years or so have felt like this. A journeyman or worse QB comes in with bad stats and/or receivers, and everyone expects the Bears to dominate. Then that average-to-below average dude starts carving up the Bears’ D.

I’ll be honest fellas; this game concerns me way more than it should. It should be a win by 14 or more, but I think it’ll be close.

The bigger question is are these our "New Bears" or the same old? We are gonna find out  the rest of the wat this year. My money is on the New Bears showing up and making a statement.

I’ll be happy if the newer-new Bears show up.  The ones that play four quarters of solid ball. Not this 1/2-come-from-behind-late-in-the-game stuff.  I didn’t want to have to test out my new BP meds this early.

Me neither.

At 9-4 in his first year as a coach, the old bears are gone. If they went 0-4, it would be disappointing but we already have seen the direction of the new Bears.

Adam is right, this is going to be a close game but their vaulted defense gave up 29 points to Tennessee, the worst team in the league.

While perusing recent sports columns, one in particular caught my attention—it ranked all the current NFL quarterbacks, supposedly based on a list from Sportsnaut. I’m not too familiar with them or how reliable their rankings are, but they had Caleb Williams at 19th overall, behind journeyman Jacoby Brissett (18), former fellow overall No. 1 pick Bryce Young (17), and fellow second-year quarterbacks Bo Nix (14) and Drake Maye (2). Below was their reasoning for his ranking specifically.

I was more curious about where current Cleveland starter Shedeur Sanders landed, since there’s been some positive buzz around his recent performances. They ranked him at No. 27 and pointed out that he’s coming off a 364-yard, 3-touchdown game against the Tennessee Titans. It’s worth noting that Tennessee’s defense is ranked in the bottom third of the league overall—roughly in the same territory as our own defense this season so maybe something for us to be concerned with?

Washing my winter coveralls tonight, I might be a part of Chicago Bear history if it gets a cold as they think.  Been to couple cold games like Bears vs Texans, and Falcons.  I'm sure there are a few more Bear games I've endured like at Minnesota when the dome collapsed.

I had season tickets for 2 years during the early 80s and endured a few cold games myself. It sounds worse than it was.  Bodies packed in the stands create a lot of heat.

I earned my badge here….

The Chicago Bears' playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams in 1986 was played in extremely cold conditions, with temperatures around -9 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind chill that made it feel even colder. This game is often remembered as one of the coldest in NFL history.

.. Then moved to Arizona.

The coldest for me was the game that would send either us or the Packers to the playoffs.  Rodgers came back from the collar bone injury to kill us with a desperation 45 yard touchdown on 4th and 8.  I think the wind-chill was 8°.

The Bears have really drawn the short stick on weather games. Several rainy, windy, and/or cold.

I read an article on SI.com:

Bears catch huge break from Browns' Week 15 injury report

If we can't win this game decisively, not a last-minute game-saving drive, then we are nowhere near a playoff-caliber team.

Quote

Seven Browns players have been ruled out for Sunday's contest, including two starting offensive linemen. And when you include players already on IR, this means that four of Cleveland's original five starting offensive linemen will all be sidelined on Sunday (the fifth, guard Joel Bitonio, is questionable).

Browns will be without 4 of their 5 starting OL from Week 1 on Sunday.

But that's not all. In addition to a battered offensive line, the Browns will be without three important skill-position players: tight end David Njoku, running back Dylan Sampson, and cornerback Denzel Ward. Njoku and Sampson have the third and fourth most receiving yards for the Browns through Week 14, respectively, and Ward has the second-most pass deflections for Cleveland's defense.

If you remember Jason's lament, we always make a no name QB the player of the week.  That being said, last week's loss should provide ample motivation.  At the end of the day, they still have Miles Garrett.  Any given Sunday...

Injuries play a role when teams win and lose. I found this information to be interesting. We lead the league.

I found that too the other day.

I think it's important for the Bears to get off to a good start, because in weather like this, if a team goes down 14 points, its human nature for them to think more about staying warm than winning the game when it seems out of reach. I'd love to put the Browns down 14 early, and let them quit.

And he’s chasing the single season sack record currently sitting at 20.  Hopefully he doesn’t get the 3 he needs to surpass the record tomorrow . 😬

I might have ticket stubs to check because ive been to many late games, when my friend starts having trouble getting his wife or kids to go.  Now with digital, its a crap shoot. Memories just that.

The game comes on at 1 AM in Pattaya. I'm at a 24 hour sports bar. They have soccer on every TV. They have 15 , I'm going to have to fight with the Aussies to be able to watch the game. I'm prepared to be very annoying until I get my way.
