Chicago Bears: F Grade Goals Entering the 2017 NFL Draft: The Bears spent a ton of money on Mike Glennon, so why would they spend a first-round on a pedestrian quarterback prospect? Glennon is not the answer, but neither is Mitchell Trubisky or Deshaun Watson. Chicago has to add talent to its secondary, receiving corps and offensive tackle group. 2017 NFL Draft Accomplishments: This section is misleading because it says "2017 NFL Draft Accomplishments." The Bears didn't accomplish anything outside of setting their franchise back five years. I can't believe how bad Chicago's draft was. Of the five picks the team made, three earned Millen grades. I can't s…

It's early, but with the recent additions, I wanted to get opinions on where you think our roster shakes out. Some positions seem pretty clear, others not so much. I have to say in looking at the initial 53-man roster last year, I couldn't believe some of the names. Greg Scruggs? Amini Silotolu? Were they really on the team? QB: Glennon, Sanchez, Trubisky Trubisky probably doesn't dress for the first few games at least. Bears will probably try to keep Shaw on the practice squad. RB: Howard, Langford, Cohen I like Cunningham, but he and Cohen are pretty duplicative, especially if Cohen can return kicks. I do think there's an outside chance the Bears keep…

We should improve with health alone, but didn't do much in this draft to make an early impact.. With that going and the toughest 1st half of the season schedule in the NFL, I will give them a one win increase, because I see the young guys playing more later this season, decreasing the chance to win. A 4-12 record could happen which nets them top 2-4 draft pick. Since they have their QB of the future drafted, they can now trade down with that pick which should be hot if the QBs coming up are what the say. That pick should net the Bears multiple 1sts and 2nds in both 2018 & 2019.

I saw a discussion on Twitter that said Wentz only had 6 more completions than Trubisky in college, which I was surprised to hear. So I looked up their numbers: Wentz - 392-612, 64.1, 5115 yds, 8.4 Y/A, 45 TD, 14 INT Trubisky - 386-572, 67.5, 4762 yds, 8.3 Y/A, 41 TD, 10 INT So the whole lack of experience thing with Trubisky is sort of bogus. Also, I cannot believe Philly didn't get more crap for trading up for Wentz. He was an FCS QB who only played in 7 games and was a 5th year Senior. How the hell was this guy even a top rated QB? When I look back at old articles, they don't even mention he was a small school QB who was hurt and missed 8 games?…

Random thought on Tarik Cohen (like him, but I think he was a reach) and other "change of pace" backs. Are they needed? I get that each RB has their own style, flavor, and advantage. Some may be better at catching out of the backfield than others. Some are better going between the tackles. Given Howard's success last year, wouldn't it be better to just get a Howard clone and pound the opposing defense all game? Regardless of which RB is in there, the opponent really doesn't know what to do, or can't take a break. I mean, if Howard fits so well, why not a guy who runs just like him?

Patrick Finley‏Verified account @patrickfinley 19m19 minutes ago DL Jaye Howard got offer from #Bears but left Halas Hall without deal, per source. Door's not closed, though. He passed team's physical FWIW Hopefully he just wants to "Shop around" a little bit more. Would love to add a healthy Jaye Howard to the defensive line. He could be this years Josh Sitton, a really good vet the Bears pick up after the draft.

For as long as I've been a Bears fan, I've been an NFL draft fan. I've watched the whole thing, every year, since I was in elementary school. And, as a nasty side-effect, I have, unknowingly at the time, defended countless Bears drafts that did not warrant it. I have written flowery defenses of Brandin Hardin, Tron LeFavor, and Juaquin Iglesias, seen the playmaking potential in Dustin Lyman, and argued that Brock Vereen was a “steal.” This is to say, I am not, typically speaking, negative about Bears drafts. I have mentioned in several threads that I am negative about this one. Or was. I’m still deciding. Because the more I think about it, I think my problem w…

    1. 67 Year old Bear fan born on the south side, raised in Rockford, move to the west coast 30 years ago. I have bitched and griped about the lack of any Bear coverage since the 85 Super Bowl years. Turn on any sports talk or anything to do with the NFL and your lucky to even get a recap of games during the season. The best way of course to change that is start winning again. But since the draft every time I turn on any sports programing talking about the NFL DaBears are topic A. It's nice to at least get some info on the Bears other than sites that are Bear related. So for at least the rest of this week I finally get my fill of Bear talk on a national level. I gu…

  12. Just heard the newest spin on the NFL draft from "sources" close to the Bears. Supposedly Pace was told to get a QB no matter what with the first pick. He is not the man in charge when ownership is making the football decisions. Why does everything have to be a conspiracy. From Fox didnt know to this now. The Chiefs (edit:had -Cardinals) were praised for trading away their future for Mahomes and they said you do that for a QB that can be your franchis for 10 years. Bears do it and the world collapses.

Taylor Boggs/OC was signed today, which means Whitehair is moving to a OT spot or, Grasu backup spot is in jeopardy . Also Jaye Howard a 5T that was cut my KC a few weeks ago, visited the Bears today. I would say if healthy, we have another new Bear.

Leno has gotten better each year but is still not even average. the only difference from Leno and Whitehair is the 2" difference in arm length, otherwise they are the same size player. I looked at last years OT class and the best OT were a little taller and they all had longer arms. The one closest to the size of Whitehair was T. Decker, his arm length is 1" longer than Whitehair. So here is what I think will happen, they will stick the best 5 OL on the field at the same time. The question that needs to be answered is how good is Grasu, if he is healthy and has become a good player, I think they move Whitehair out to LT. Whitehair played the position in col…

  15. Bears waived RB David Cobb. The ex-Titans bust made it four months on the Bears' offseason roster. Also waived Monday were RB Bralon Addison, WR Dres Anderson, CB DeVante Bausby, CB Jacoby Glenn and TE Justin Perillo. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/357...cluding-rb-cobb Bausby and Glenn were the biggest names and the crowded secondary gets thinner really quick.

  16. Pace's first chance to move on from Jay Cutler: Glennon in FA Resign Connor Shaw Sign Mark Sanchez Draft Trubisky That's 4 QBs he added to this roster. One is going to be gone unless Shaw can be put on the PS its him. So its Glennon(rumored to be upset , who cares did the check bounce and think Drew Brees when the Chargers drafted Philip Rivers) Sanchez the Dak Whisperer Trubisky who should start next year( 2018) no matter what I expect the rebuild to see offensive players in and out like the defenders last year and mostly at OL. TC should sort out WR,RB and TE. FB is going to be a wildcard.

Evaluation is even hard for experts whose jobs are on the line for their choices. Only 59% of the first round become starters. that's a high miss rate. 29% are busts. At the SB this year there were 38 UDFAs on the the two teams rosters. the point is it's hard to know where the players are coming from but the bottom line is evaluating talent. lets look at Paces drafts 2015 White-- has been injured but still has #1 WR traits. If he stays healthy we will know this answer. Goldman-- big time player with some injury issues Grasu-- may still be OC of this football team Langford-- an NFL player but is not a star Amos-- an average SS but not a bust by any…

This guy built a new trade value chart based on the 124 trades after the last CBA, which seems more accurate than the older chart. http://www.patspulpit.com/2017/4/23/153981...-chart#comments If you use this chart, the #3 pick is worth 514 pts and the #2 pick is worth 717 pts. Our 3rd rounder is worth 75 pts and our 4th rounder is worth 28. So if you give them the same value for 3rd round picks (75+75) for this year and next year, the 4th and #3, the total is 692. So surprisingly, we actually win this trade, and it is close enough to being a wash. The question becomes, was it necessary? The next team that would seem to need a QB was NYJ, and if they tried t…
