Let's say you wanted to pull off what I'm calling a "Reverse Mike Ditka", and trade your entire draft for one player in the league. Ignore salary cap stuff. Ignore reality. Ignore the current team needs. Which player do you think would be worth this year's entire draft?

Last season Matt "Cocaine" Jones caught for 761 yards in 12 games. That's pretty damn good. The guy is 6'6, damn good speed, and he's a former #1 pick. Hell, wouldn't he instantly be the best WR on the roster? He was dumped after being arrested for cocaine & later drank beer at a golf course. As far as I know he's never been an ass-bag in the locker room (thanks Cedric). He's had relatively minor problems, and I'm sure Lovie has already forgiven him. Not to mention he's only 25. Most importantly, signing him would give us true flexibility on draft day. We'd have legitimate starters at every position and could truly operate with the intent …

What are the thoughts on Brandon Tate? I read Brad Biggs piece on him and he sounds like a Desean JAckson or Eddie Royal type of player. Will we be able to get him?

Last i read he was waiting on offers from the Bears and Giants and then he was going to make his decision.

Is there any way trading our second and another round pick isnt a no-brainer. 1st off, past Robiski, i dont see the WR at 49 to be worth much of anything. Boldin has like 4 years left of production and a with a great QB, the rest of our bums will probably be 100x better. I think we take the absolute best player available then at 99 and fill our holes with the late rounds. And for god sakes draft a FB, Sutherland would be my choice....

Bears sign DE Al-Quadin Muhammad to 2yr 10M deal (per Schefter). He played DE for Colts last season. Seems like a solid signing.

It was really hard to evaluate the team as a whole with so many players injured. On offense, no Monty, Pringle, Jones, Kmet, Reiff, Griffin, O'Shaughnessy, Harry and Patrick. At least 4 starters out. On defense, no Quinn, Muhammad, Blackson, Smith, Gordon, Vildor, Graham, Jackson, or Cruikshank. At least 5 starters out. Fields, playing against first teamers, didn't turn the ball over. This may not seem like a big deal but no fumbles or INTs is a positive. He looked much better overall, but with so many starters out, the entire offense is a work in progress. So Gordon got completely shredded last night on multiple plays (no help from Jackson on one of them), but the alternative in the 2nd Round was a WR. There were 6 WRs selected after Gordon in the 2nd Round (and before Velus Jones). Here are there stats after 2 weeks: Wan'Dale Robinson 1-5 John Metchie - no stats Tyquan Thornton - no stats George Pickens 2-26 Alec Pierce - no stats Skyy Moore 1-30 Pickens may have the best chance to pan out, maybe one of the injured guys does, but I don't know if any of them would help our putrid offense right now. If Mooney has only 2 receptions, most of these guys wouldn't even have a target on the Bears yet.

A very interesting press conference from Fields today, with a lot of points. In a nutshell, Fields said that he's being coached too much, and needs to play from his instincts more. At first this sounded like making excuses, or throwing the coaches under the bus. Don't be surprised if that's the narrative that sports writers take from this press conference, and it blows up into a media thing. So I saw a thread on Twitter on how SB winning teams have never had a QB that took more than 15% of the cap in any year to date. Which is odd considering most of the SBs were won by Brady, Roethlisberger, Mahomes, and Flacco over the last 20 years. So I looked back to year 2000 to see what were the top 10 teams in terms of winning pct, how many HC's they had, how many different leading QBs they had, playoff appearances, SB appearances, and SB wins. The Bears were 21st over this span with a 181-206 record, which is sad. So what stands out below is the top of the top teams have had the same HC or only 1-2 over the last 20+ years. About time

2 years, 12M Finally a real TE2. He is a perennial 50 catch, 450 yard receiver. Now 18M tied to the TE group. If you take Everett's production + Swift's in the receiving game, that is basically 100 receptions a year added to the roster, while replacing Foreman and Tonyan lol.

This is a glorious day to be a Bears fan. They defeated the SB champs handily, very close to an ass whooping, and they did it starting almost all players 3rd round or later while KC was running former 1st and 2nd rounders out there. The Bears end the preseason with a +68 points differential in 3.5 games. That is crazy. They scored 20+ pts and 3 TDs in every game. The defense has multiple TDs in less than 4 games. This would not matter if the Bears had weak starters, but both units look like they are top 10-15. With all the positives, there are still some concerns. With 16 slots, it will be interesting to see how many outside players they sign. The Bears didn't claim anyone on the waiver wire, so all the external signings will technically be free agents.
