TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THE DRAFT Twas the night before the draft, when all through this board, not a member was stirring, not even Terra Tor. The players were slotted by the war room with care, in hope that the football gods would answer our prayers. The TalkBear alums were nestled all snug in there beds, while visions of Sweetness danced in there heads. And Jerry in his briefs, and Lovie in his cap, had just settled down for a few hours nap. When out of Halas Hall arose from a clatter, Jerry and Lovie sprang out of bed to see what was the matter. Away to the door they flew like a flash, turned off the alarm and removed the latch. The reflection of the moon on t…

Bears GM Jerry Angelo considers second-round pick Matt Forte a "three-down back." Beware Cedric Benson, your job is in great danger. "I felt like our running game obviously was one of the weak spots on our football team," Angelo said, referring to last year. "He gives us a big back, a three down back." Forte is going to compete to start right away, and he just may be the favorite. Source: Chicago Sun Times

With all the bashing of the draft picks we got and the UDFA we signed our team just got better, for this year. I'll start off with the TE pick of Davis. If you look at the year we lost Gilmore who was nothing to write home about just a blocker and could catch sometimes. We got Davis who is taller and faster.. The thinking here is that he and Olsen could be on the field at the same time creating such a mismatch against small LB'S and DB'S(advantage Bears). We then turn to the WR spot. We lost Moose and Berrian and gained Bennet,Lloyd,Booker and Monk. How many time did you see Moose and Berrian drop passes and couldn't get awsy from defenders? IMHO Monk will be a steal, big…

Former Longhorn arrested 09:11 AM CDT on Sunday, May 4, 2008 KVUE News Former Longhorn Cedric Benson was arrested Saturday evening by officers with the Texas Park and Wildlife and Lower Colorado River Association. Benson is out on a $14,500 bail. Benson was arrested for boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest. The 25 year old former Longhorn running back was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2005. This is not his first arrest. Back in 2004 Benson spent time in the Del Valle Correctional Facility for criminal trespassing. He was found guilty of breaking into a woman's house in search of a stolen television…

This should be fun. (Side note...I'm putting this thread here based on the discussion we had earlier, where people wanted NFL news all to be put in one thread and wanted non-NFL stuff consigned to another thread).

In terms of setting the market for draft picks...well, this adds one more reason why the Bears don't want the #3 pick next year. It might well cost more than the #1 pick.

http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/ BROWN DISPUTES REPORT THAT BENSON WAS TARGETED Posted by Mike Florio on June 15, 2008, 11:54 p.m. Last week, Jay Glazer of FOX suggested that as many as ten Bears players tried to hurt former Chicago running back Cedric Benson during practice. Former Bears offensive lineman Ruben Brown took issue with that notion on Sunday. “That sounds like a lot of mumbo-jumbo,” Brown told WMVP-AM radio, via the Chicago Tribune. “Nobody does that anymore. We all respect each other’s right to earn money. I mean, we’re all trying to make it, and that makes no sense. “You’re saying Mike Brown, Brian Urlacher, L…

Do you think we have the best d line in the league ? for me our weak spot is the second DT starter. The Vikings have a great line too but their weak spot is the LE. the Giants have a great one too but how will they play without Strahan ?

I thought this was interesting for 2 reasons. 1. Williams still not signed. 2. Kevin Jones arms make him look like a linebacker (are we sure he's not related to Thomas???) Here's the article: As Bears arrive, top pick still unsigned By Vaughn McClure, 2:52 p.m. BOURBONNAIS -- Mike Brown parked his blazing red Hummer, then strode into McClain Hall already wearing his game face. Yes, Bears training camp is here. Players made their way to Olivet Nazarene University on Tuesday afternoon. The deadline for reporting is midnight. While most eagerly are anticipating the arrival of Brian Urlacher -- who agreed to a one-year extension Monday -- t…

I think we should try and get him. He still has the skills to pay the bills COWBOYS TO CUT GLENN Posted by Mike Florio on July 25, 2008, 11:47 p.m. The Dallas Cowboys plan to release veteran receiver Terry Glenn, bringing to an end a lengthy squabble regarding whether Glenn would agree to take a drastically reduced payment in the event that his bad knee would have resulted in his placement on injured reserve. Owner Jerry Jones claims that the move isn’t the result of Glenn’s refusal to accept a lower salary if he can’t play. “That turned out not to be an issue,” Jones said. ”At the end of the day it had more to do with where we are right now . . . al…

Tillman, Alex Brown, Hester, Vasher, etc, AKA a non-first round steal for us. I'm going to say Harrison. He's an absolute monster when he's not an off the field nuisance. He is a big man and with Tommie drawing double teams, he could have a 3-5 sack year. Not to mention, when we took him, he was the best defensive player on the board. If not for his off the field problems, he would have been a mid-2nd round pick.

Anyone else tired of tennesee picking up our draft choices and showing us how much better their coaching staff is. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...69?OpenDocument Gage is 'the guy' at receiver for Titans Dec. 2, 2007--Tennessee Titans wide receiver Justin Gage, top, has a pass intended for him broken up by Houston Texans safety C. Wide receiver Rideau does not make the cut By Brad Biggson August 30, 2008 2:49 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0) Wide receiver Brandon Rideau, who led the Bears and the entire league with three touchdown catches in preseason, has been informed he will be placed on waivers. It's an indication the Bears will go with six wide receivers and that veterans Marty Booker and Mark Bradley are most likely safe. There's been no announcement on their status, but Bradley is a former second-round pick and coaches indicated Booker was safe even though he was difficult to find on the field in preseason. Tight end Fontel Mines, who spent last season on the pra…

Peanut and Jennings are really making a strong case. They have won back-to-back DPOM awards, Peanut leads the league in Defensive TDs (2) and FFum (7), and Jennings leads the league in INT (6) and PD (15).

Gents, I know we all feel this team has underachieved, but we can finish 10-6 and make the playoffs. Unless you are New England, that's a good thing! We are getting some guys back on O and D, so maybe we can make a run if the stars align. I've seen more improbable teams make it to the SuperBowl. Why not us? Time to Bear Down! We can draft and fire Lovie later...
