The current press conference has Ted Phillips sounding defiant and also basically saying that Lovie will remain as coach and Ruskell will head the scouting operations.

I know there's a lot of virtual high fives going on here today but damn if I don't find it a bit premature. Let's take a look... * The Bears are retaining Lovie Smith, a move I approve of, but in the process they're saddling the new GM with a coach he may not want. With that said, it could be that the Bears will really tell the new GM to make his choice and they'll cut Lovie loose later if that's the decision. This is a big unknown. It's that sad time of the year gain. Last Bears game of the season with the long wait till the new season & continuing new hope Bears win to go to .500 & end a miserable season that had so much promise after 10 weeks

After watching them this whole season (living in MN...) and seeing the weapons that he has to become the QB that he is, I don't give many props to Aaron Rodgers. Granted, he can throw the ball, and do it nicely with minimizing his mistakes. But when you have 5 WR and 2 TE on your team, that would compete for the 1 & 2 spots on almost ANY team in the league, you had better do a great job with them. Watching them all season, including the game tonight, just showed how often his WR are left wide open in a route and can catch the ball. Constantly they are on perfect timing. I know this won't be a popular thought, but I would rather see the Bears bring back Martz as OC than to put Cutler and the offense through another learning curve. I see no reason to install another offense when Lovie only has 2 years left on contract. We have an good defense & special teams, but a defecient offense. No matter what/who's system we run, it will always be defecient unless we invest more into it (and many have said this even back in the Grossman/Benson days) Martz's offense can actually be the missing piece to improve Lovies D if we can just get the right personal in it.
