Hey guys...just thought I'd fill you in on something I heard over the weekend. I was at an officiating clinic where there were several big names in college and the NFL. Officials mostly, but there were a few director of officials and assorted leadership there as well. Aside from a bunch of great football talk, I heard the following tidbit: Just in case the labor problems continue, the NFL already has an 8 game schedule in place for the following season. Does that mean it'll happen? Not necessarily. But the way I heard it, they are preparing for the worst, and an 8 game schedule - which would start at what would normally be week 8 or 9 - is definitely a gloo…

Hear me out... The Browns are the Browns. They could easily pass on Myles Garrett. There is also every indication they love Mitch Trubisky. I don't think it's likely, but they could very well pass on Garrett. There is at least some speculation out there about whether or not Garrett takes plays off, or if he's lazy. So we get to the Niners. They're QBs are Matt Barkley and Brian Hoyer. Remember them? Do you think those two are the future? I don't even think they believe they are locked in as starter and backup, whichever order is inconsequential. So naturally the Niners are planning on QB early. They HAVE to be. Am I talking myself into this? I …

I'm still optimistic he's going to turn out to be a good player for us. I don't think that happens this year as he learns a new position. If he can still run well, and the offseason workout videos seem to show that he can, then special teams coverage could be his ticket to making the 53. Best case is he challenges Bullard for significant backup reps at DE. Or maybe that's the worst case because it means Bullard hasn't progressed as we hoped. If he sticks around, down the road I can see RRH in the LDE role when we are in a 4-man front. IMO converting RRH to this role has better odds of success than when we converted Cornelius Washington to 3-4 DE. That worked…

Jamarcus Webb sucks..he's a 7th Rounder outta nowhere. Get over it and end it Okoye has a ton of potential for us. Think he is gonna be huge and a steal. Gholston on the other hand looks rather lost. Major Wright will end up killing someone or himself (figuratively). Plays with a ton of passion Chris Williams truely stinks. After every play he stands next to ball and chews mouthpiece. Reminds me of the fat kid wearing the Darth Vader helmet from "Little Giants".. Typical Jerry's Kid Chester Taylor is packing his bags, in turn Barber is buyin a condo on the north side somewhere Spencer will end up being the starter at G or C. If u are drafted to C,…

Here is the 53-Man projection from Windy City GridIron. I feel like TE and OL are really thin (with Coward hurting). I don't know if Sowell makes it over someone like Bunting. It appears Jordan will be available soon as a FA. The question is should the Bears consider returning him? What type of blocking will Chicago deploy under Castillo? Are they wanting to go more power blocking, zone blocking or concentrate more on pass blocking? I think someone hypothesized that the reason Hiestand lost his job was because he wanted to do more power blocking and Nagy did not. (My guess is Nagy needed a scape goat and Hiestand was one of a few options). Anyhow, if in fact the Bears goal is to focus more on a combination of pass and zone blocking then Howard may still be an option. Even with a couple of fixes along the oline for next year I don’t see t…

  15. LOSERS: The Bears coaching staff The decision to squib the kickoff with 11 seconds remaining cost the Bears the game, plain and simple. What was with the soft zone in the secondary, allowing Michael Jenkins to catch a 26-yard pass to put Jason Elam in field-goal range? This is a team that could be 6-0 right now with some better coaching decisions. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-w...o&type=lgns

He was a DB and KR/PR, so it looks like they are happy with what they have at those positions (which is a good sign).

So I know this is basically semantics nowadays and we are in sub-packages that take this away 60% of the time, but do you think we have the personnel to play the 3-4 more effectively than the 4-3? I can't tell if it is scheme, personnel, or the injuries, but we never have a consistent pass rush. Yeah we have had a few sacks, but it seems like we rarely have pressure outside of those plays that look more like coverage sacks. What do you think? Stick with Fangio and the 3-4 next year, or go back to a traditional set?

There has been chatter the Bears could take Ridley in the top 10. While I still like him as a prospect what I saw tonight was a #2 WR in the NFL. There is no need to draft that skillset early in Rd 1. In Rd 2 maybe but I think he'll be gone by then. Even at that, there are other WR prospects who offer similar skillsets in the 2nd Rd. For me Rd 1 remains on target for OT or OLB.
