  1. Started by jason,

I have been thinking lately about the concept of BPA, and how it applies to team needs. Related to that is the concept of value by position. In other words, if the second and third best Safeties are there in the third, then it makes sense to pass on the safety position until then. Having said that... 1st - NT or OLB/DE - if the Bears want/need DT, it needs to happen here. The first three appear to be gone in most recent mocks, which I still can't believe, in the first. Same goes for the elite edge rushers. 2nd - ILB, there just seems to be a ton of talent at this spot, and they disappear by the third. 3rd - FS, After Collins, most mocks have safeties f…

We have the 7th pick in the draft...if Mariota falls to us at that spot...and the Browns want him would you trade our spot for their #12 and #19 picks? If so then who would you pick at #12 and #19?

I never considered Gordon or Gurley at #7, and don't think I would like it with all the other holes. However, I can see the reasoning: Forte is nearing the end of his career, has had a lot of touches over the last few years, has a decent cap hit, and really wasn't overly explosive last year. Considering all of that, it is still hard for me to see RB before the 4th with us having Forte, Carey, and Rodgers on the roster. Unless Forte was traded for a pick. Also, Fox has always seemed like an RB by committee type guy.

    We all know the inherent flaws to this concept, but it's an interesting test nonetheless. I ran three what-if mocks (two of which are previous threads) through the process. Fanspeak draft where Leonard Williams falls 1(7)-LEONARD WILLIAMS, DT, 3 = +4 2(39)-BENARDRICK MCKINNEY, ILB, 51 = -12, total -8 3(71)-DERRON SMITH, S, 103 = -32, total -40 4(106)-ROB HAVENSTEIN, T, 115 = -9, total -49 5(142)-IFO EXPRE-OLOMU, CB, 99 = +43, total -6 6(182)-SEAN MANNION, QB, 140 = +42, total +36 So we gain a 5th rounder. Talksbears attempt to agree mock 1(20)- MALCOLM BROWN, DT, 22 = -2 2(39)- DEVIN SMITH, WR, Ohio State, 47 = -8, total -10 2(52)- …

Since I'm no expert...I just think these guys' names would look good on the back of a jersey or from the announcement booth... In no particular order, other than DraftTek's big board prospect lists: 1. Andrus Peat (Stanf OT) - "The Peat Monster"! http://www.compassboxwhisky.com/the-peat-monster.php 2. Jalen Strong (AZ St WR) - Strong! Better than weak! 3. Quinten Rollins (Mia OH CB) - I'm an old school Black Flag fan and a Henry Rollins fan...so that would also be cool. Not to mention Sonny Rollins is one hell of a jazz musician. 4. Danielle Hunter (LSU DE) - They call him the hunter! 5. Cody Riggs (ND CB) - Riggs! Le…

We all keep repeating ourselves on who we would like, he is a list I dont want at 7. Both Qbs keep getting rated high because of the importance of the position, but for me, they are to risky of a pick for a team that needs a star now. Do not want either for our pick at 7. I think the two best edge rushers are going to be Fowler and Beasley, Gregory and Ray will be there at our pick and dont want anything to do with either. I think Shelton and Collins will be good players in the league but both are not a good valve at #7. We need a star in the making at 7 and dont think they fill that bill. I think Trea Wayne will also be to much of a reach at 7, but as…

  10. I see a lot of the same names in the mock drafts, and for good reason, but since every year is a surprise, I figured I'd try to come up with a realistic Bears mock of guys I haven't seen much on, to see what people might think: 1) Bud Dupree, DE/LB, Kentucky - I think this is high, but I've seen more and more mock that have him ahead of Beasley, Ray, and Gregory, so if Fowler goes top 4 and the Bears go edge rusher, he could very well be the pick. 2) Quinton Rollins, DB, Miami (OH) - Defensive player of the year with only one year of college football experience piques my interest. Might be the ballhawking safety we are looking for. 3) Rashad Greene, WR, Florid…

These guys have published a free Draft guide for their Top 100 here: http://firstroundgrade.com/2015/04/26/2015...-now-available/ Really cool actually and some of the most detailed analysis you will find on the interwebs. I was surprised to see some of their player grades, and if their grading is any indication, we will definitely have some draft surprises. Here is their top 21 (which were the only players that received a 1st round grade): RANK NAME POS SCHOOL GRADE 1 Leonard Williams DT USC 8.8 2 Kevin White WR West Virginia 8.8 3 Melvin Gordon RB Wisconsin 8.7 4 Alvin “Bud” Dupree EDGE Kentucky 8.5 5 Owamagbe Odighizuwa EDGE UCLA 8.5 6 Duke …

I didn't see the exact picks, but if Williams, Cooper, and White are gone, does everyone here hate the idea of Scherff at 7? I obviously like it. The right side of our OL would be absolutely nasty.

This mock by far has got me the most excited. Sure we missed on Oline, but defensively this would be a great building block. I would be happy with this outcome. 1-7 Amari Cooper WR - Hands down the safest 1000yd/yr capable prospect 2-39 Landon Collins SS- Marked as the best S in the draft but he is a tweener FS/SS. 3-71 Xavier Cooper DE/DT- Projects as a 3-4 DE, which after McDonald, Jenkins, and maybe Houston theres not much depth. 4-106 Marcus Golden OLB- pass rushing talent to step in 2016 5-142 Durrell Eskridge FS-big physical FS who could step in 6-183 Ladarious Gunter CB- nice size and speed to develop

It's all over twitter, but I haven't seen a linkable version. Of note, it lists only one NT, Ratliff. Sutton, Ferguson, and Washington are all listed at DEs. Allen, Bass, Houston, McPhee, and Young are all listed at LBs.

Were getting down to the nitty gritty, and its time to see how smart we are. We all dream about what we want but the reality will be quite different, so I will lay out what i think will happen. First round trade: Cooper, Beasley, and Fowler are gone. I think someone wants Kevin White (who is still on the board), so we trade back. St Louis Rams are going for it with a top defense they trade up for a stud WR for there new QB Foles. We get there first 13 and second 41. The valve chart is within 100 points. 13: We grab Danny Shelton/NT- he has valve down from 7 and fills a need. 39: Nelson Agholor/WR- add a quality wide out 41: Preston Smith/ DE…

http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/no-tea...beat-the-draft/ It basically says that nobody is beating the draft. Most are average at best. Only a few teams do well consistently, and even then their main guys get fired after one or two misses. It also analyzes the GMs (I'd love to see where Angelo falls into that analysis). I particularly liked the portion about "The Loser’s Curse", which essentially "argues that NFL decision-makers shouldn’t be so quick to attribute the apparent efficiency of the draft market to an abundance of picking skill. To do so is hubris." I've been saying this for quite some time. These owners/GMs aren't as good at picking players a…

http://walterfootball.com/draft2015.php 1 - Kevin White, WR, WVU 2 - Jordan Phillips, NT, OK 3 - TJ Clemmings, OT, Pitt (AJ Cann available) 4 - Lorenzo Mauldin, DE/OLB, Louisville 5 - Charles Gaines, CB, Louisville 6 - Andy Gallik, C, Boston College I'm on record as being not too high on Kevin White. I hope it's Cooper instead. Phillips at 2 works very well. I think AJ Cann is a better pick at 3. 4-6 I'm not overly excited about, but I get it.
