I'm seeing that MLB stars are opting out of the season. I can agree with their decision, and feel that this is going to give a bunch of MLB wannabees a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make the big leagues. I wonder, with the way things sit now, will that spill over to the NFL? Where would we get "replacement players"? It would be a great opportunity for many borderline guys, but I remember the strike season and didn't like the on-field product. Great opportunity for new guys, but where would we get these fill-in players?

So have read many stories about all the incorrect test results for many teams yesterday. Nine, ten, 12. That has to but a team into WTF mode for awhile no matter how good you think you program is. And it also will show how well do they have a handle on things. Because there is a more than likely chance that will be a reality before the season is over. So I guess a good dry run to see how things were handled and what contingency plans are in place.

On offense, it was clear that Castillo has influenced the O-Line. That is a good sign for some more consistency in the offense. If we can get the ground game going, play-action will be there with easy one read throws for Mitch. Daniels really stood out to me watching the game again. Nagy did a better job in play calling, but still needs better judgment in certain scenarios. Like before the half, we had yet to move the ball and you call a timeout when DET has the ball with a minute left, only to give the ball back to them with 45 seconds left and great field position. Below is a screenshot of the lowest separation of skill position players through 1st 2 weeks of the season (no qualifiers applied). Bears have 3 of the top 5. I don't know whether the QB decisions play into the separation or if this is a pure stat - but not even the best QB's can consistently deal with this many people NOT getting open. All of these parties need to step it up - the really scary one is Miller - he is supposed to be more electric at getting open; Robinson has always had less separation than the league but made up for it with fundamental awesomeness.

So thru a quarter of the season, the Bears are 3-1 and have a 52% chance to make the playoffs. The NFC East will only send one team, so the competition is going to come from the West and South. After TB, NO has a 72.6% to make the playoffs, which would put them in the #2 Wild Card slot. In the West, after Seattle, LAR has a 72.8% chance to make the playoffs for the #1 Wild Card slot. So the Bears are the WC3 slot (7th) ahead of SF at 40% and ARZ at 33%, both teams are 2-2. Looking like I might squeak out a win this week. Even if I don't I should remain the #2 seed in my league. But there are enough teams that could challenge me for that spot and things go really poorly I could even find myself on the outside looking in if I don't win next week (especially if I don't pull it out this week. The Saints playoff game could very well be his last as a Chicago Bear. If he's a good QB, an NFL QB, wouldn't he want to truly display that for a future employer? So 2022 is where the team is in a much better cap situation. They can save $12.9M by cutting Quinn as a post-June 1 cut and $7M on Foles next offseason. So $20M off the books is a nice chunk of change without losing any performance. Mack is also an easy candidate for a restructure at $30M. Graham comes off the books, so the only guys with a cap hit north of $10M would be Mack, Jackson, Whitehair, and Goldman. I have spent the last few years dogging Nagy, his scheme, and play calling. Pace's draft strategy, free agent choices. It is what it is and I need to change how I process those choices. Does anyone follow, listen to or watch anything from Barstool Sports? I have seen a few things, mainly Big Cat who is a Bears fan, seems like a funny guy. Well, Pat McAfee, former Indy Punter, just signed a $30M a year deal with FanDuel leaving Barstool Sports. First off, that is more than he made in his entire NFL career (which is mind-boggling). Despite our issues at WR for some reason I still lean toward fixing the CB/S position in Rd 2. That's not to say I wouldn't draft a WR there if the right talent fell to us. Maybe at this point I simply like the DB options in Rd 2 better than the WR options. Looking at WR who will still be on the board in Rd 2-5 I came across Justyn Ross. I was watching the game last night and right after Blank said Vick might be able to return if he doesnt eat too much fried chicken one of my friends called me and we were curious if it was gonna be brought up today as an issue. Sure enough, theyve been talking about all day. I personally dont think it was meant to be a racial comment but with a subject as touchy as Vick it doesnt surprise me it was brought up.
