Man that was really some kind of free agency by Pace and the Bears. Excited we addressed a lot of needs heading into the draft.

I’m loving everything we’ve done in adding offensive weapons to help out Trubisky. The one thing I can’t understand was letting go of Josh Sitton. I got it at the time assuming that we would sign someone young and more athletic. Since then all we’ve done is resign Bradley Sowell—who is a back-up swing tackle. It also looks like Quenton Nelson will be long gone by the time we pick at #8. Dumping Sitton, we now have a gaping hole at o-line. At best, Bobbie Massie and Charles Leno are average. We plan on using Trubisky out of the shot gun a lot more. Can Cody Whitehair consistently release a shot gun snap on target? Will Kyle Long play more than 8 games? With G…

I sure do like what I see from Tremaine Edmunds. If he is in the middle, I think he can do a lot of things for us, and Fangio would know just how to use him. In zone defense, he'd be another Urlacher, and imagine how much more effective that would be when we arent in cover 2 all the time. In man, he clearly has the skills to stay with TEs and even slot receivers. In this day and age of college running QBs, he is a spy too. He has the speed and tackling ability to shut that down in a hurry. And hes long enough for pass rush and as sure an open field tackler as Ive ever seen. He would be an excellent chess piece for Fangio.

We're not done on the OL. In free agency I think we are at that point where there are a bunch of equally rated players around, and no one wants to be first to pay one. Pace is smart to bide his time. I also think that we will probably be taking an OG or OT in the 2nd round. Don't sleep on the OT position, no ones talking about it, but we may be looking there more than OG. I see at least 2 more players coming at OL before the draft and free agency are over.

Here is a list of our acquisitions, players re-signed, players lost, and remaining free agents: Free Agent Additions Chase Daniel - QB - knows system and Pace, good pickup Tyler Bray - QB - knows system coming from KC, makes sense Allen Robinson - WR - coming off injury, but ceiling is pretty high, clearly our #1 (about time) Taylor Gabriel - WR - versatile WR, can line up anywhere, will be fun to see with Cohen on the field Trey Burton - TE - not a ton of production for the contract, but upside is there, Burton-Shaheen should be a fun TE Duo. At first I thought the original round tender offer Pace put on Meredith was just him being cautious with somewhat unproven WR returning from injury. I now believe his intentions all along were to secure Meredith for a few years on a reasonable contract, perhaps around $5-7mil per year. Meaning he'd like him to sign an offer from another team so he can match it. If he does not, Pace can still offer that kind of a deal for Meredith, perhaps something in the 3 yr range that gets him back to FA when he's still young enough (he's 25 now) to really capitalize on it but also gives him enough now that he's financially secure for life. The Bears have a lot of holes left to fill, and they won't be able to fill them all through the draft. The Bears will probably sign a couple more free agents before the draft. Here are the positions we still need a player in, not in order of necessity: DE, OLB, ILB, S, CB OC/OG, OT, WR The first draft pick is going to solidify one of those positions. It will either go to the offensive line, or to the defense. If it goes offense, it will be Quentin Nelson OG from ND. For sake of being realistic, lets use only up to 2 trades. I started out trying to fill BPA scenario and this is what I ended up with. So the Bears have re-signed CB Marcus Cooper and long snapper Patrick Scales. I think we will probably see 2 OL and at least one pick on the defensive front seven in our first four picks. We could use another body at safety and WR, but the front seven and the OL are the obvious places that still need upgrades. I wouldn't be shocked to see us take 3 OL if you include the 5th round or later.

I was pissed when they let Robbie Gould go, he was an outstanding placekicker for us. I hope this new PK we signed away from the Dolphins is as good as everyone seems to proclaim he is. I have Never been a big fan of our Punter. Now I see one of the best punters in the NFL over the past few years, Marquette King, has been released from Oakland. I hope that Pace signs this guy!

With the owners meetings completed and just a few weeks before the draft any remaining free agents are getting nervous to find roster spots. This is where Pace often does a lot of work to fill out the roster. I think he's done with big contracts except for any extensions he wants to do with our current players (reportedly Goldman, maybe Amos). We have almost $28mil in cap space and have yet to cut Freeman which opens up another $3.5mil. That leaves room to sign a "name" player on a decent low risk deal. I still think we could take a RB late in the draft but he is a good backup RB that can catch the ball.

1 Az. gives up 15 ,47 and 79 for Bears 8 and 115 2 Buffalo gives up 12 and 22 and 65 for Bears 8 and 105 These two scenarios are based on Baker Mayfield being these two teams target and still on the board at 8.
