The Bears waived 14 players Friday, including guard Johan Asiata, fullback Eddie Williams, wide receivers Andy Fantuz and Onrea Jones, and linebacker Chris Johnson. The group also included nine undrafted rookies: Linebackers Tressor Baptiste and Deron Minor, cornerbacks Antareis Bryan and Ryan Jones, tackle Josh Davis, punter Spencer Lanning, defensive end Jake Laptad, center Alex Linnenkohl, and receiver Jimmy Young. The only player waived Friday who has played in a regular-season game for the Bears is Asiata, who appeared in the first two contests last year. The Bears still must cut 13 more players by 5 p.m. Saturday to reach the NFL’s 53-man roster limit…

  11. First I heard this on a Brad Biggs tweet that last summer the Bears declined an offer to trade for Shea McClellin to the Texans.New Bears LB coach was with the Texans and is familiar with Shea. Wonder what the offer was.

Some fairly impressive numbers from the Bears defense. In general, they are clearly better than last year and have improved even more since players got healthy and the acquisition of Sweat. Both Sweat and Edwards are playing at Pro Bowl levels. #1 against the Run (79 yds/game) #3 Interceptions (13) #9 Total Yards Allowed (318 yds/game) #11 Turnovers (20) #16 Passes Defended (50) #19 Defensive DVOA (last season they finished #32) #22 against the Pass (248yds/game) TJ Edwards #2 in tackles (125), also has 2 sacks, 2 INT, and 1 FF Jaylon Johnson #7T in interceptions (3) Montez Sweat #12 in sacks (9), (4g, 2.5 sack…

  13. Bears Defense Needs to Attend Workouts – For the Good of the Offense Sean Jensen at the Chicago Sun-Times recently interviewed Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and asked him about the workouts they were planning (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/5398418-419/jay-cutler-bears-offense-needs-to-get-together-despite-lockout.html). To the surprise of many, only the offensive players were planning to workout together: “Cutler said the workouts would be for offensive players only. “’I mean, those defenders have been in the system for eight years, nine years,’ Cutler said. ‘What are they gonna do? “’What am I going to tell Lach?’ Cutler said, referrin…

from profootballtalk.com BEARS DON’T PLAN TO ADD A BACK Posted by Mike Florio on June 18, 2008, 11:06 p.m. With 2005 first-round draft pick Cedric Benson now having plenty of time to captain a ship under the influence of Captain Morgan, the Chicago Bears have one less running back on the roster. But they don’t plan to fill that void. More specifically, they don’t plan to fill it by signing a veteran like Shaun Alexander or Ron Dayne. “We don’t have any plans to do that,” Smith said. “From Matt [Forte’] to Adrian Peterson to Garrett Wolfe, to P.J. Pope, Matt Lawrence, we like all of our players and those are the ones that we’re going with.” Then …

No one knows how the Bears view the top players, there are so many so called draft experts that it can be confusing to actually figure out the actual value. If we go by Paces own words , we have to assume he goes with BPA. top ten big board: 1- Myles Garrett-no brainier here 2-Soloman Thomas- has been moving up and would be our Justin Smith if we could get him 3-Johnathan Allen- He was considered the consensus #2 going into the Combine but even with the concern over future arthritic shoulders, he will not slip much 4-Jamal Adams- a future all pro 5-Marshon Lattimore- the highest rated CB in the draft 6-Malik Hooker- He would be tow…
