IMHO our season last year was a bust, because of the offense. Yes the defense had it's problems and injuries played the pivotal role in the outcome, but how many times did we force three and out from the other team just to allow the offense to turn the ball over back to the other team? This will kill a defense.I think that with better ball control we will be a good team again and go to the Playoffs.

Now that John Fox is HC - here is my Fanspeak Mock Draft 1.0. I traded back from 7th to the 15th in the 1st Round picking up a 2nd,3rd,4th. Also, traded back in the third round acquiring a 5th round and 7th round picks. Traded up in the in 6th round for QB Hogan. Can you imagine a scenario where DL goes hot and heavy before the Bears pick? 1. TB – Jameis Winston, QB, FSU 2. TEN – Leonard Williams, DT/DE, USC 3. JAX – Dante Fowler, DE, FLA 4. OAK – Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, NEB 5. WAS – Danny Shelton, NT, WAS 6. NYJ – Marcus Mariotta, QB, ORE What then? My thought here is, do the Bears take the 4th best pass rusher with the #7 pick in the draft? I don't like that idea. Assuming no trade down possibilities, I'm thinking they have to go Bama with either Collins or Cooper.

I know that if we cut Tait, we'd gain around $7 million. I know that if we cut Ogunleye, we'd gain around $4 million. I know that if we cut Vasher, we'd lose around $7 million. But what if we traded Ogunleye or Vasher? Would we have to trade for another high priced guy, or what? Let's say we sent Vasher to Oakland for a 5th round pick- do we still have to pay his contract?

I think the Bears like Matt Blanchard as the #3, but we still need a capable #2. I can't see us spending the money it would take to get (or being a very enticing landing spot for) fringe starters like Kolb, who is apparently soon to be released, or Fitzpatrick, who already has been. Campbell had his chance here. Remaining candidates include Byron Leftwich (probably not a great fit), Brady Quinn (I could see it), or Kellen Clemons (snore). Am I crazy to think the best remaining realistic FA option is (gasp!) Rex Grossman? Or maybe we just wait to see who gets released after the draft?

So watching Foles play yesterday almost makes me miss him but then I realized he was playing against 3rd and 4th stringers who mostly won’t have a job by the end of the week. But man did he look good running that offense. How about Horstead? Might need to make a spot for him to stay? Probably drop JP Holtz to make room. My two fave players coming out of camp have to be Rodney Adams and Khyris Tonga. Have to believe both make it. After yesterday’s game I’m a bit concerned about Peters and Ifedi starting. Both got schooled pretty badly early on. Yes I know it’s preseason but man. Hopefully somebody cuts a solid OLT in the next few days.

Guess who is taking all 1st team snaps at RT. What happened to having a true competition at that position like so many were on my case saying there would be. According to brad Biggs its all Webb at that position And Scott is only taking snaps with 2nd trk or when Webb needs a breather. This is not a competition. I hope this staff knows what its doing cuz if webb blows again and gets jay hurt again there's going to be a lot of pissed off ppl for not even allowing someone to at least push Webb. What's wrong with opening things up at a position where no one has earned it.

The guy has been MIA in the offense for the most part till he was involved a few times this week. In past seasons he was our go to guy. Is it that Kyle's comfort level with Olsen is higher than his comfort level with Clark? Or is Des just not as sharp this year. He had what could have been a very boneheaded mistake by getting the ball punched out at the end of that reception. He owes Davis dinner for saving his arse by following the play. Just seems like he's been non-existent for the most part. I had thought they'd lean on him more then they have.. and maybe he had a slow start but is coming on.

Bears playing for .500, Vikings playing for absolutely nothing. Hard to see the Bears not winning this one with Minnesota basically resting all their starters. Bears 20-10

5 days after I posted this in the "looking to next year" thread, this comes out. Told you so. I'm proving all of my doubters wrong (I kid, hence the green).

Walterfootball just released the combine measurements for the DL prospects so I figured I'd highlight some of the guys we've talked about. Jadaveon Clowney- 6-5 266 34 1/2 inch arms- I put him up there as sort of a measuring stick. Kony Ealy- 6-4 273 34 1/4- Pretty much right there with Clowney Kareem Martin- 6-6 272 35- The knock on this guy is his speed, he's projected to run a 4.9 while Ealy is expected to be in the 4.7 range. If he beats those projections he could work his way into 1st round consideration Dee Ford- 6-2 252 32 7/8- Short with short arms, further adding to my thought that he's not a 4-3 DE and the Bears won't draft him. It's interesting to read and post about current players and potential new additions, but the coaching staff lifted my eyebrows more this year than any, and I've never been a Lovie fan...(but that's another story) Any rookies that have made an impact made it immediately. We haven't developed anyone. Our team was one of the least disciplined team on the field every week. And all this after the season of off-the-field incidents last year. It seems to me that the coaches are just Lovie's buddies, and not necessarily talented football coaches. With the exception of Toub, would any of these guys have a job outside of the Bears? I think not...
