http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/ The Cowboys really are "America's Team" Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 7, 2009 7:00 PM ET The Harris Poll is probably run by a large company that does many important things. But I only hear of it one time a year, when they come out with the poll that says who is "America's favorite football team." And the envelope please . . . The Dallas Cowboys came in first in the poll for the third straight year, which doesn't exactly make up for the lack of playoff wins of late. But it certainly helps Jerry Jones' bottom line. The Steelers came in second, followed by the Bears, Colts, and…

Found this on another forum - a list of starting offensive linemen around the league and the number of sacks they allowed. Linemen get assessed 0.5 either for allowing an assisted sack on a solo block or allowing a solo sack as half of a double-team block. They get assessed 0.25 for allowing an assisted sack as half of a double-team. 2008 Bears players are in bold. New players for 2009 are in italics, although Chris Williams and Frank Omiyale are omitted, since neither had enough starts in 2008 to make the list. LT 1. Ryan Clady (Broncos) 0.5 sacks allowed (16 starts) 2. Michael Roos (Titans) 1.0 sacks allowed (16 starts) *PRO-BOWL* 3. Tra Thomas (Eagles) 2…

Thought this was an interesting read especially for those of us who follow the draft closely. OTOH this does explain a lot of the head-scratching picks Emery made because I now i know he was too focused on the "athlete" and draft position and not enough on the performance on the field. There is a place for analytics but I like the fact Pace puts more emphasis on what he sees on the field. Yogi once said "you can learn a lot just by lookin' ". http://chi.247sports.com/Bolt/Bears-have-s...n-Pace-53394075

Bears' Dvoracek finally fit for duty I am a huge Dusty fan and am anxious to see him back on the field tonight. This guy, if he can remain healthy, along with Harrison & Idonoje, will give us the best defensive tackle rotation in the NFL, PERIOD, no questions asked.

https://cbschicago.files.wordpress.com/2015...-3-51-57-pm.png Some things I notice: - Guard depth does not look good, with Ducasse and someone named Jason Weaver the current backups, though I understand that Ola can play there as well. - Kadeem Carey has an uphill job making this roster with Rodgers and Langford ahead of him. This fits with what I saw last week when I was at training camp. They obviously had a plan with Rodgers and even Langford (saw him out wide blocking on WR screens). Not sure where Carey fits right now. - I like what I saw from Cameron Meredith last week and it looks like right now he's the most highly thought of under the radar WR. We'…

Every time I read one of Larry Mayer's pieces on the officials site I get irritated. If there were ever a bigger brown nose I've yet to see it. This guy thinks everything is great all the time, thinks there are no holes on the team, and whenever possible chooses his words in such a way as to give the staff and management a way to weasel out. So, it got me to thinking about other Chicago journalists, and I know a lot of people don't like Mariotti, but which one do you hate reading?

  9. Tribune Article Disagreeing with Article by TSN Ranking Lovie Smith 20th best HC The Sporting News Article Ranking NFL HCs that is mentioned in the article above The Sporting News Article is a joke. Hell, they ranked Mike Singletary #14 and he has not been HC for a full season. Sean Payton is #6? He is 26-24 in 3 seasons with 1 playoff win? Several HCs ranked above him have 1 year of experience. I am not sure where I would rank him (Lovie) but based on his record over the years I agree with the writer on the Tribune that he should be somewhere in the top 10.

This to me is a bigger concern, more important to the Bears success this year, than David Hester trying to strike it rich. I will be looking more at this and the development of the offense as a result than David "I am mad and I want my money now" Hester. Bears' season on the line

  12. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/ Bears’ hope for Hester: Catch more passes, return fewer kickoffs Posted by Michael David Smith on April 10, 2012, 7:39 AM EDT Devin Hester may be the best return man in NFL history, but that doesn’t mean that’s his primary role in Chicago. The Chicago Tribune connects the dots with the addition of Eric Weems and Devin Thomas, two players with experience as kickoff returners, and notes that last year Johnny Knox averaged more yards per kickoff return than Hester, and says it all adds up to the Bears making Hester an integral part of the offense at wide receiver and cutting down on his kickoff returns. …

I know it's the final preseason game, but no thread at all? Here's what I saw: - There will be more talented QBs cut than David Fales and the Bears should find one and put him on their practice squad. - The Bears will lose out on a talented player because they insist on holding onto Jacquizz Rodgers, who will not have a memorable moment this season. He is easily the 4th best RB on the roster and we could pick up his equivalent on waivers. I'd cut him. The Bears won't. Howard was particularly impressive tonight. - The FB Lasike had some big hits and caught the ball well. I think he makes the team as the FB. - I'm surprised we didn't see anything of Ben Brau…

  15. Hi All, I'll be in the Pontiac, MI area for the Green Bay game... even though it might be meaningless, I need to watch it. I'm certain the Bears can, again, beat the Packers. Is anyone from that area? I looking for a bar to watch the game, as it won't be on regular TV (I contacted the local station there and asked). Go Bears!!

If the first quarter is any indicator, we're going to see a repeat of last year. The offense is going to have to score 30 ppg to even be in some of these games. I have zero faith in Mel Tucker. Also, Briggs is done. He can't run anymore.

This is BearSox's Draft Discussion, and I will go over our options for each round. I guess this can be considered some what of a mock draft as well, but I'd like to have a discussion about our options and such. I'm only going to the first day for now. ROUND 1: We have a couple choices here and it looks like we can be picking in the 10-12 range as this team is brutal. One option is safety and perhaps Kenny Phillips is available here. But with no franchise LT or QB, we can't use a draft pick on a "luxury". So, lets take a look at our other options. Trading down is an option, but that is easier said then done. How about LT? Long will likely be gone in the top 5 and Cl…

I'll need some help here setting up the poll once this thread is done to setup the final Rd 1 Poll. For now we need to decide on who is "on our board" at #20. We said we'd have a couple days to make sure everyone had a chance for input as some folks contribute to the board from work. I'll step aside for a bit and let some of the draft experts list their thoughts. Adam put together some great prospect lists as the draft went along. We need to drill down to 5-7 prospects who would have been "at the top of our board". That seems pretty typical for what teams do in the draft process. Then we'll put up the poll and select our first round pick. If a couple prospe…
