I know, and agree, that there is no way Hanie starts. Just wanted to see posters opinion on a what if? I would start Rex, but if at the end of the half he is stinking up the joint, (again, assumjing in this what if scenerio, Orton can not play) then I would pull him in a heart beat and insert Hanie. Now, again, I do not think the Bears would do this, but I never expected to see Orton declared the starter his rookie season either.

Buzzman2333 wins with 11 correct out of 14, NeoBear ties but takes second due to MNF total points tie-breaker. Great job guys! Now we get a full slate of games every week. Again, another Thursday Night Game!

It seems every time the opposing team is running an offensive series with limited time on the clock they go to a sideline pattern towards Nathan Vasher. Vasher is always out of position so that when the receiver makes the catch in order to make the tackle he drives the player out of bounds, exactly what the receiver wants. Is it that difficult for the defender to realize what is going on and position himself to the outside of the receiver and drive the sucker back into the field of play? That is what basically cost us the game with Atlanta. If the receiver is driven back into the field of play instead of out of bounds, they would not have had time to kick the field goal.

Ah, but a GOOD HC sets the defensive schemes to match the skill set of the players he has on the team. If the defensive coordinator can not adust to the players available to run the defense, then he probably can not adjust his play calling to the offense we are playing against. I do not want that guy as our HC or DC.

Although I started off the thread saying I would start Caleb over Rex I think now, after cooling off a bit, Rex would be the logical starter but, with that said, if he struggled again in the first half against GB I would pull him in a heartbeat and see if Hanie could salvage a win for us.
-
Personally, after today's performance, I would just as well see Caleb Hanie start against GB than Rex Grossman if Kyle Orton is not ready to start next week. I do not see how he can do any worse than what I watched today. What do you guys think? I pray that Kyle is ready to go next week.

LOL, I saw that he was inactive after I made the post. Guess I am in trouble with my picks this week again.

IF we shut down their running game, we win, simple as that. The run defense needs to win this game! I do not respect their pass defense. I think Grossman may make a mistake or tow but I also think he will hit on a few deep passes, my guess is one to Hester & one to Lloyd and Olsen has a big game. If Forte has success it will be as a receiver out of the backfield.

You mean you are leaving Detroit out of the mix for the NFCN title? Remember, they are starting 'Pepper this week at QB! Look out!

If it is "good Rex" we should be ok. Listening to the Score it seems the consensus is that we would be better off running a no-huddle offense as it will wear down the big boys on their D-Line and make them less effective against the run. Kyle did a good job of running the no-huddle. Hopefully Rex can do so also.

I highlighted two sentences that seem to conflict. We have been stopping the run this year by moving the linebackers up closer to the line of scrimmage. So to continue success against the run do we change the scheme we have been using all year? I do agree that the Titan's will pick us apart underneath, just as they did with Indy when they stopped the Titan's running game and remember, Indy plays a similar defense as we do.

I like Steltz to start if Brown is not close to 100%. The kid is an impressive rookie and I think is the future starter for the Bears replacing Brown after this year. Hopefully Brown winds up on our coaching staff.

Very interesting clip - thanks for pointing it out - hopefully I will remember to check this out on a regular basis. I remember the play from last week but never gave it much thought. I just assumed Forte started to his left, decided to cut it back to the right. Now that I see what the 2 OGs did, it is obvious this was a planned play all along. Man do I feel stupid. It is so obvious when you watch it again, but the first time I watched it I totally missed it.

Week 10 is ready to go. Remember - THURSDAY NIGHT GAMES! I detailed in the email sent and in threads in both forums how this works. If you still have questions, fire away! Good Luck! John - Pixote

I hope the Bears paid attention to the game between IND & TEN. IND did a good job against the Run on defense but was picked on underneath in the cover 2 scheme. TEN won the game with the pass not the run on offense and of course a great defense. We run quite similar defense in CHI. We can not let TEN pick up 3rd downs time and time again with the "dink" pass like they did against IND.

bowlingtwig and Madlithuanian tie with 10 correct but bowlingtwig smokes Mad with the tie-breaker. Great Job guys!

Listening to the Score today it was brought up that Rex has had some of his best games against the Packers. Maybe Kyle returns the week after the Packers game, LOL.

I am not ready to say "without our passing game". We might see "Good" Rex and kick ass!

I am posting this here as well in the fantasy forum to make sure everyone who is playing in the contests see the thread and are informed. For those not involved in the contests, sorry. Starting this week we will be having Thursday Night Games on NFL Network. I will be putting up the Picksheets asap, usually on Tuesday evenings after I get home from work. If you want to select the Thursday night game you will need to submit a COMPLETE picksheet prior to the start of the Thursday night game. I realize this does not give you time to think over the remaining games but do not worry. After the Thursday night game is over, you will be able to resubmit a new picksheet before the start of the 1st game on Sunday to change any selections you want to adjust. If you resubmit a new picksheet after the Thursday night game, or if you choose not to select the Thursday night game and select the remaining games later in the week, you have to submit a COMPLETE picksheet. The Thursday night game will be ignored by the program I use to enter your selections once I enter the score of the Thursday night game. If you have any concerns or questions about this, please let me know before this new set of procedures go into effect with the Thursday night games coming into play. Thanks.

As was said on the Score show earlier today, it would probably have been more classy of Rex to have given the ball to an OL, i.e., Olin, or to Forte, to spike. It would have shown some camaraderie and leadership on his part. However, no big deal.
-
You know what is really scary? We hear that Kyle will be out 4+ weeks. No one knows for sure. High ankle sprains are tricky. Rex has had some injury problems in the past, fortunately not recently. However, we are one fluke injury away from having Caleb Hanie as our starting QB with no backup unless we go out and sign a free agent.

Your ranting and bitching, i.e. your constant criticism of Orton no matter what he accomplished, may not have been a verbalization that Orton could hear, but anyone reading your posts on the forum when it came to the topic of Kyle Orton sure heard the Boos loud and clear. I failed to see you throwing your support behind Orton. Would I ever boo a Bears player while attending a game at the stadium? Hell no, never. Do I feel it is the right of any fan attending the game to do so if they feel upset over the players performance, yes I do. I have heard many players say it is the fan's right to do so as well. If a player let's that sort of thing bother them, they need to consider a different profession. It comes with the territory.

Man, I am getting pumped up after reading this. Excellent Job Noots. I hope you can write a glowing review after the game has been played. We need to come out strong after the bye. Next week's game against the Titans is going to be the toughest game we will have this year. I want to see us on a roll.

Dear Pool Member, Week 9 Pick'em sheets are ready. Please enter your picks before the deadline! Good luck in the games! http://www.talkbears.com/Contests/index.htm. Thank you, Pixote
