I see Banks going in a lot of mock drafts at 11, 13 and 16. With Banks being the 3rd OT off the board, and the last of the 1st round graded OTs. So this is possibly why the Bears are talking up Warren, and to some extent Jeanty (although they may really like him) so that teams at 11, 13 and 16 don't trade up above us to snag Banks. In the real world, everyone knows we redid our OL, and that we still have a need at OT, so I figure teams know we might be looking there no matter what is in the papers. Its hard to fool NFL teams. They arent all as stupid as we have been in the recent past LOL If we dont take an OT in the first round, I suspect we will look at Arionte Ersery. He will be there int he 2nd round, and possibly in the 3rd. Would we risk it to take two impact players in the 2nd? If we held out and got something like: R1 Jeanty R2 DL R2 HB R3 Ersery that would be amazing. But it would take some balls because if Ersery isnt there, its Jones and Amagadje. Being fearful of a hole at the position myself. Im looking at Banks at 10, passing by some really great names that i wish we could take that could help us at DL, WR, HB, TE and if Banks isnt there, or we cant resist the temptation to take one of those other players, then I am reaching a bit int he 2nd round to grab Ersery so we are sure we have him. Im not thrilled with going into the season adding a player like Grant from W&M - is he really any better than Amagadje anyway?

Pathetic. "Smartest guy in the room" behavior by our former staffs. Sometimes it's not that hard. Sometimes you just let a guy play his position.

For me, it's (in order) Banks Jeanty Graham Nolen Williams I know that's five, if you need three, then just take the first three But I'd be happy with those five. If you factor in Abdul Carter Travis Hunter Cam Ward then you gotta hope 2 more players go before us (Sanders? Campbell? Membou? Warren?) to get one from that first list. I don't want to be stuck holding the bag on Tyler Warren or Membou. I think this is why we see all the articles about us wanting Warren, to shine him and our interest in him up for a possible trade down.

For sure. He's done a great job being disciplined and using that wasted year to a long term sustainable outcome, rather than blowing it all early. I think the staff is gonna help a lot with player evaluations, and Poles can be the cap / money / future guy. Perfect.

The Eagles rode Saquon Barkley pretty hard, but even they split carries. I think all teams do, even with feature backs. Saquon got 345 carries Hurts ran it 150 times Other HBs ran it 108 times So even just among HBs, Barkley carried it 76% of the time. 1 out of 4 it wasnt him, not even counting the Hurts carries, WR end arounds etc. So I think you can have a feature back, and still rotate guys in and out to keep them fresh, or "have weapons" Gibbs 250 Carries Montgomery 185 carries Between Gibbs and Monty, Gibbs carried it 57% of the time. If you take Jeanty, you're still gonna give it to other guys. If you take Kaleb Johnson, you're definitely going with a rotation.

I agree. Id love to see KJ in a Bears unifomr, and it would be thrilling to see Jeanty in a Bears uniform too!

I think KJ is a 3 down back. He's not the speediest, but he is fast enough to break away. He hits the holes quick, doesnt dance around, and is always moving forward. He's also got a super clean lateral shift, that leaves unblocked defenders with nothing but air, and it doesnt seem to slow his forward progress down when he makes those cuts. That's really impressive. I guess my biggest concern with KJ is that on all his big runs (and there are plenty of them) the blocking all looks really clean. Iowa did a great job up front, and so Iw ish there was more film on him when the blocking fails and he still makes something of it.

Yeah, KJ is great! I also think the idea that a HB will be a home run hitter isn't necessary. The purpose of a HB is to move the chains, and force the defense to come down into the box, influence safeties away from coverage, and open up play action passes. Id take 5 15 yard carries in a game over one 75 yard carry. And KJ DOES break runs all the time. It's OK if he gets chased down.

I think we are all overlooking Kaleb Johnson. He's my #2 back after Jeanty, and I think we can get him in the 2nd round. I think it goes 10 Banks 39 Kaleb Johnson 41 BPA of DL, S, WR or TE

yeah,m its one thing to draft a HB with a high pick, and another to pay that second contract.

yeah but Barkley didnt fail to get a deal from the Giants because he was ground down, he played really well for the Eagles this year, no lost step, it's just the Giants are poorly run and have cap issues.

I can make a case that Jeanty is far above the other HBs in this draft, or most drafts. That doesnt necessarily mean that we should take him at 10 though - thats a different question, and involves other players, our needs etc. But Jeanty isnt too small, there are other backs in the league that are similarly sized and doing well. I would just say that rather than looking at numbers, watch his tape. He is shifty as hell, and can switch holes in an instant. He's elusive AND punishing, and it's very hard to get him down. Whoever gets him will get a real star at HB. If it's us, I will be excited, but of course I think we should be disciplined and take the LT instead.

If they draft Banks, it will be to play LT. If he fails there, he might end up as a guard, but if they draft him it's hoping he will be the LT for the next 10 years.

me too - and he doesn't need an elite long ball to be great. if he makes his reads, and gets the ball out fast, he will win a lot of games with this roster. I do think we still need a real WR3.

Yeah, well we are all just guessing. Im just saying I get that you're doing something a little different - trying to predict - instead of saying who you would take if it was your choice. Theyre related, but not the same thing, and so Im reading what you write through that lens. Which is cool.

I do note the fundamental difference between what most of us are saying, and what you are saying. We are mostly saying who we want, what the bears should do, while you are more predicting what you think they WILL do. And what's interesting about that is that we could disagree and both be right. I could want banks, and be "sure" that's the right move, and you might predict they take Jeanty (or whoever) and they do that. One difference is that unless they take the guy I want, I can never "prove" I was right, at least not for a few season and see how the players turn out int he NFL, and that's still not proof, because a guy could do well on one team, and bust out on another. Whereas we will all know if you were "right" or not, because we will all see who the Bears actually do pick. That's a blessing and a curse for sure, but you could be able to say "see I was right" whereas me arguing that Im right Banks is the right pick is much harder to prove, even if we take him. But anyway, I do note the difference, and respect it.

hope so! Its something I saw a lot of in his college tape too. But I look at Tom Brady, and contrast his early tape, looking Montana-esque, spreading the ball around, making quick reads, but not particularly known as a long ball guy, vs Moss era Brady, where he was throwing dimes 65 yards downfield. So there is hope!

I would love to agree with this, but Lambert mostly repackages what other people say in tweets and interviews. I havent seen him claim anonymous inside sources in a while. But the overall point is well taken, you hear everything but Banks out there in the twittersphere - maybe because if youre gonna say something the narrative behind Campbell and Momebou is strongest, or maybe because people are being tight lipped.

yes that's it exactly. How many teams passed on Randy Moss, or Warren Sapp. I mean you gotta do your homework. You dont need angels, but you want to be sure youre getting Randy Moss and not Antonio Brown of course.
