  1. yeah, there are no experts on the planet who can tell you how a college QB will fare in the NFL. I mean except me. LOL just kidding. No one ever knows. There are signs, and trends and stuff to look at, but you never really know, all the way up to the top decision makers in the league. I do think watching tape is better than reading stats, but for QBs, it's a giant mystery. And then there's how would fields look in SF or Purdy here. So many variables. But what I think you can say is that after enough NFL tape you know what a guy's ceiling is. You might not know if the next QB or coach is gonna be great, but you can say whether the one you've got is? I'm looking forward to seeing how Williams looks under pressure for sure. I have a fantasy of Williams lighting it up for us next year to DJ Moore and Marvin Harrison Jr. And we're gonna need a bunch of defensive linemen too - both rookies and free agents. And some coaches to put them in the right places
  2. for sure the trend is upward, but until it all comes together, the product looks terrible even when there really has been significant roster improvement. Lots of room for optimism. We really do need a new coach though.
  3. amen
  4. right! its a vicious circle. there are so few difference makers as coaches and coordinators and the ones that are proven arent available. so you gotta take a flyer on someone, and if you look for a winner, then youre taking someone who worked under a winning head coach who might be the reason (like Nagy) or someone who worked with a great QB who might be the reason (like Getsy) - its very hard to find. And sometimes the right guy just isnt ready, like Belichick at the Browns. It's extremely difficult to get right.
  5. yup.the 3T makes the cover 2 go. and honestly, the entire D line is a problem right now. Hopefully the rookies will ascend.
  6. I think with Jenkins back, and finally Davis in there, the OL should start to look pretty good. We should start running the ball much better, and giving JF some more protection. As much of a mess as the offense has been, the biggest impediment to us getting a win is going to be the lack of pass rush - but we all knew that was gonna be the story this year on defense.
  7. I fully agree, and the prospect of a new QB and top pick brings better coaching options and interest too! To your point about having the balls to keep the staff, youre right, they really cant. There's already noise that Caleb Williams would stay in school rather than go to the Bears - I assume if you got a great new staff in, there wouldnt be that issue any more. And even if Eberflus is a decent coach and has had some things go against him, he isnt a great coach - and thats what hires should be in the NFL - lottery tickets on great coaches. That a lot of it isnt Flus fault? That's beside the point. This isn't a judgement of what would be fairest for Flus, it's a question of whether we've seen any sign that he is a potential GREAT coach. I havent seen it. So yeah, I agree with you, Flus has to be gone. And as sad as this is to say so early - I'm looking forward to 2024. I really do think there is light at the end of this tunnel for us. But man the product on the field as currently formulated is awful. We have some really good young players, but it's a mess right now.
  8. dude, just shut up already.
  9. I said he sucks, I didnt say i WANT him to suck ya moron. If you cant take it, dont dish it out.
  10. Ok this is the last thing Im gonna say. i called you an "idiot" as an EXAMPLE of being personal like you had been to me. I literally prefaced it with "Ok Ill be as direct as you then" the idea being that that ISNT how we should interact on here. It was an example of the kind of thing i WOULDNT normally say and neither should you - get it? And that was my REACTION to you saying that about me by name. This is just juvenile now. If you dont have the character to say you shouldnt have called me out, thats on you. There is no need for me to play these games with you.
  11. i totally agree! This is the only way to build a winner. i just think that the coaches and Fields wont be a part of it. But yes, overall, the rebuild is moving forward. We just dont see more results yet. For example 2 x 2 x 0 = 0, but 9 x 15 x 0 = 0 too. THe 9 and 15 got better, when we get rid of the zeroes, this team is gonna make a huge step.
  12. You literally called me out personally by name to say i would be unhappy to see Fields play well.
  13. Your memory is faulty too - I did not argue with you before. I would LOVE to see Fields play well. But he sucks. It would make me happy to see him succeed. You were the one who went personal - have the character to admit when you are wrong. But if you cant - that's on you, I am not your therapist. At some point if you have any brain at all youll admit that Fields is a terrible QB, and then youll have to realize you were wrong about this too. Today you said about yourself "I am just a drunk coolaid drinking idiot that still has hope we actually win some games in the future. I am not going to apologize for being optimistic until there is none." Thats FINE. I didnt call you out for that opinion. i didnt call you out at all. You did that to me. However, if you read what I write, youll see I always admit when the other person has a point. I dont have insider knowledge, this is just my opinion like everyone else. And my opinion is that i am optimistic about our future next year. I say it all the time. I dont come here to fight, but neither do I come here for this crap either. So dont be a turd. Thanks.
  14. adam, youre so right - this is the worst team in football for the second year running. But we have real reasons for optimism too, assuming you fire the coaches. Our roster isnt really that bad at all, and we have draft and salary cap capital galore.
  15. Amen. Two top draft picks, and a decent roster plus a huge amount of cap money means we CAN turn this around - especially with a new QB.
  16. Don't be an idiot. You think I don't like Fields or want him to fail? I love the Bears, and I wanted him to succeed as much as anyone. Im a lifelong fan. I'll be just as direct as you - you're drunk on kool aid and can't see bad quarterbacking right in front of your eyes. Even in these tapes Fields is LATE on most of his throws. But you need to use your brain to understand the difference between thinking a guy is trash, and WANTING them to fail. Hopefully your last brain cell has enough computing power to understand that distinction. Do you think Mitch Trubisky is a great QB? If not does that mean youre a hater? Dont freakin' question my heart or loyalty just because you have an enduring man crush on a proven turd.
  17. nah, if you draft Caleb Williams, you get JF the hell out of Halas Hall.

yeah youre totally right. its just that we wanted to evaluate Fields and we had nothing. We didnt want to wait for the 23 draft, hoping to know what we had in Fields before that. It's like paying $50 for a glass of water when youre dying of thirst in the desert. Its really dumb, and you way overpaid, but youre the idiot who walked into the desert with no water. And that was us digging out from Pace.
  19. Here's an article with stats on the increased use of 2 high safeties in the last couple of years - but again, that doesnt always mean playing vanilla cover 2, or doing it predictably. Eberflus still sucks, even if cover 2 is back in vogue LOL https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/nfl-offense-is-dead-but-its-unlikely-two-high-coverage-is-the-guilty-party/
  20. we've certainly seen Edmunds moved out of the middle on 3rd down by opponents formation.
  21. Well it's hard to say. Every team has Cover 2 in their playbook, and every team uses it. The question would be how often, and how predictably. When NFL offenses started lighting it up a couple years ago, the fashion was single high safety. Then Sean McVey showed the NFL that 2 deep safeties can stop the modern passing offenses. It wasnt always cover 2 per se - sometimes deep deep with man under, sometimes exotic and mixed coverages. But suddenly, like bellbottoms back in style, two deep safeties started appearing all over the league again. In the end it's like rock paper scissors. You cant say Rock is antiquated. It's JUST the thing when someone calls scissors. But if you call rock EVERY time, your opponent knows that paper will beat you. If your base defense is vanilla Cover 2, you better have a strong pass rush. If you do you'll get turnovers. if you don't... well we can all see. It's about game planning and matchups, and any defense is about getting to the quarterback too. I dont think we can blame the cover 2 for all of this - it's become more fashionable lately in the NFL again. But if you play it every down like its 1990, and you dont have a pass rush, it's gonna suck.

He had several games with terrible effort. He has a bad attitude, and he said to the press that his failure was the coaches doing. He never ascended as a WR. I havent seen it from him at all. He was a reach at a time we had nothing and Poles wanted to give Justin something to evaluate him with. i understood the move, and I forgive the reach and miss. Bye Chase, you sucked.
  23. I agree that player development hasn't been a strength of the Bears for a long long time. I would just add that it's hard to use statistics to measure that since it's a team game and our team sucks. For example, you could blame Fields, the coaches and the scheme for Mooney's low yardage total, even if Mooney knows the position better than last year. The whole boat rises and sinks together. But aside from my caveat about which evidence you use, your main point is right on. We do not develop anyone - QBs especially.
