I agree Pace has been mixed. I dont hate him, but he did whiff on Floyd, Kevin White and Trubisky, and miss on some free agents too, but the biggest indictment to me is that he chose Nagy, and also failed to replace Leno for so long.
-
yeah, it's a rare OL that is plug and play from day one at OLT. You almost always see people sit and go to the weight room, or start at guard or right tackle before sliding over when then have a feel for the NFL. Then again, Leno ain't so great either.
-
I'm hoping Leno is a backup by halfway through the season - i think that he is probably the OLT starter opening day. Grrrr.
-
Interesting point about Trevathan. I hadnt thought about him with all the other issues weve been having. Miller seems obvious.
-
maybe they offer this years first and next years, and throw in Miller to get back a 4th? Thats a small twist on an idea of packaging a 6th to get a 4th I read on here too (but cant find right now to correctly attribute the idea to - who was is?)
-
I agree with this. As much as I want to see Leno gone, it will be hard to plug in a rookie to start on day 1 from a pick at #20, and even harder with the shortened time for work. All the more reason this should have been addressed last year. But it is going to be a process.
-
I like the general idea. The June first Leno is nice too Trading up into the 1st round after a first round pick has already been made to snag a QB, and maybe even reach a bit for him, because you get the 5th year option seems possible. Id love it to be an OT, especially on the left side. But if it was Jenkins anchoring a running game, that wouldnt be so bad. A blue chip Edge player might be too attractive to pass up at #20 too, even though we aren't talking about it much (I see you added one at #204, so you're thinking that too). However it shakes out, I hope we get a QB, and he turns out to be a good player for us.
-
Id love to see it. I am a lot more mad at Nagy than I am at Pace. If Pace does something about the OL, and LT in specific, then my biggest complaints are just that he picked Trubisky and Nagy. I havent been so upset about the rest. Now Nagy I am 100% in the "fire him" camp. I wont pretend he is terrible if he turns out great, but I am all in on saying that wont happen. If we do draft a young QB I will be rooting for that guy to do well, just as I want to see Dalton succeed too.
-
yup, and this is why I love football so much. There is no sport that is more of a team game. Every part affects every other part. It's so cool.
-
Interesting stuff. Nothing would make me happier than to have Nagy get one of these kids, and then coach him into a superstar, proving that his system works and it was all Trubisky (and Leno lol) I would happily eat a ton of crow if that happens.
-
yup, if you can successfully challenge deep, it opens up the run, and takes pressure off of Dalton.
-
yup thats exactly what this is. Pace does a good job of signing vets to fill need so he can be flexible during the draft. Hes small but speedy - maybe he replaces Patterson as a returner?

Bears one of first teams to skip voluntary...

It doesnt sound like a team looking for every edge to win to save their coaches job. -

I agree that this is between the NFLPA and the NFL first and foremost. Then again, tell me a Bill Parcells coached team would be one of the first to declare... -

yeah but our guys were one of the first. they werent worried about how it might look, or who might be mad. "I dunno, if we make coach Nagy mad he might take away our disco dance parties." I hope our next coach is a SOB. -
So the Bears are one fo the first teams to have players vote to skip voluntary workouts. Tell me Nagy has this locker room, and these guys will give it all to win. This team is past its expiration date.
-
because they are worried someone else will get him, which is WHY this story exists, to give the illusion that other teams will snatch Miller up and the only way to secure him for the Ravens is a trade. And it wont work. They might make a trade, but it wont be because this article scared them into it LOL
-
nice draft, and didnt even need any tradedowns!
-
I totally understand you now, and the basis of our previous miscommunication. If you like, you dont need to keep adding the caveats. I have come to understand that we basically agree LOL In fact the only way we disagreed before was that while I thought Nagy and Pace were bad at their jobs, I didnt think Pace and Nagy were as bad/dumb as you did, and boy was I wrong.
-
yes that is a good move.
-
this does sound like a real scenario. If it was accompanied by a trade down to picks 30 to 32, and take Mond with the 5 year option, while picking up an extra pick(s) it would seem like a good move. Then again, if he could get an OT at #20 and still get Mond, that would be better, even if it means no 5th year option - and from the "win now to save your job" point of view, that 5th year is probably worth less to Pace and Nagy than an OT - or SHOULD be. I lost an infamous bet last year betting that Pace and Nagy would understnad they have OT needs, and apparently they didnt see it, and it cost us last year.
-
I dunno if anyone can ruin a 50/50 shot. I agree that Pace does not give us a competitive edge in QB insight. And of course that is his job - to better our odds. But even as he is, 50/50 is still 50/50...
-
I hear ya, and I dont trust Pace to read the tea leaves on these guys at all. That said, it seems like top 15 QBs are about 50/50 anyway, so the odds Pace blows it are about as good as him hitting a home run. So from that point of view, it might not be as big a disaster as you think to trade up. Then again, this is hardly a ringing endorsement of Pace is it?
-
right,. the reason you take a flyer on a young up and coming coordinator as a head coach is not because you KNOW theyll be a decent a coach, but because you hope they will be a special one. And similarly, once you know they arent special, theres no reason to keep them, even if theyre OK.

Id love to see this draft. I dont think the trade down scenarios the game provides are often that easy to accomplish in reality, but I think everyone would have to say that was an amazing draft if a GM actually pulled it off.
