Smith in denial, get ready for more of the same...
Connorbear replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
No issue. Really, I don't take press conferences very seriously. Further, I hate columnists like Couch who parse words from those conferences. It's all a bunch of BS. Performance on the field is all that really matters to me (exception players or coaches that put themselves above the team and get in trouble in their personal lives - see Ced Benson). I agree with you on the need to vent. I have a friend I talk to after every game and we usually review all the negative aspects of the teams performance (rather loudly normally). Peace -
Yes, I have watched him play. He has looked very good at times. Of course, he is playing under the best coach in the league with a huge amount of talent around him. Bottom line, we are not going to bring him in. He is going to make Rodgers money this offseason (approximately 60 million). We have too many other needs to throw that type of cash at him. Peace
-
Actually, he finished with 51 catches and 653 yards (you missed the last game stats. I can think of 2 td catches he dropped. Maybe he has 2 to 3 more touchdowns if Kyle hits him. Don't forget Rex missed him wide open in the Titans game. Realistically, a we may catch 4 to 5 bombs max a year. Peace

Hey, I appreciate the input. Peace

You are 100% incorrect. Whenever I get a chance, I listen to the Monday night Bears show with Joniak and Lovie on 780 am. He has said several times after losses, and I am paraphrasing, "We have to get better and its starts with me. I didn't do my job yesterday and have to improve. We all have to improve." You are most likely right that he will be around for 2 more years. I am hoping he is able to turn it around and get us back in the playoffs and to the SB. Maybe I am being a sucker but I simply refuse to beat myself up over this when I know in the end I will have no impact on what they do. Peace -

What else do you expect him to say 1 hr after the end of the season??? He did say the following: Our team failed today. Overall our team didn't play well enough this year to accomplish our goals. We're not going to separate anyone. He didn't say I really don't give a crap what the fans think, I am going to do what I want. To me he is saying the players, the coaches, and the entire organization failed. That's all I need to hear 1 hr after the end of the season. Now it is up the organization to make adjustments for next yr. The proof will be in the actions they take to improve. Peace -
The Bears have hit on 7th rounders in the past. McBride and Mike Green come to mind. You do make a good point. Are you wanting to then keep 2 rookie QBs on the roster behind Orton? I can't imagine going into next yr without a veteran backup for Orton. I think that would be a huge mistake. Peace

I actually think Wolfe is now up to 192 pounds. Turner has to find a way to get him into this offense. Peace

Lovie didn't say all is well. Please read the attached post game quotes from the Suntimes. Couch took 1 sentence and wrote an entire article on it which is BS. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...tions28.article Peace -
No way should we draft 2 Qbs - that would be a waste. 1 would be fine but 2 will not make the roster. Further, we have too many other needs to fill. Peace
-
The D did play like crap. Houston has a great looking offense. We need a #1 receiver. Peace
-
Fairly amazing isn't it. I thought the DBs made 2 great plays on him in the endzone punching the ball out both times. He needs to learn how to use his body to shield the defender from the ball. Peace
-
You are most likely correct. Some thoughts: - WTF happened to Mark Anderson? We should have never tried to make him a full time DE. I blame this on Babich and Brick Haley. - Our other needs warrant us drafting a QB lower or not at all. To me, OL, FS, DE, and WR all would come before QB. I don't think we can afford to draft a QB before the 5th. Personally, I would simply bring in a FA to compete with Orton. - I think Orton will be better with a better surrounding cast. Peace

3 points: 1 - I wouldn't expect any coach to come out after a 9-7 season and say they need a complete overall especially 1 hr after the end of the season. 2 - Angelo needs to step up this offseason and tell Lovie that he must change d-coordinator. Babich has all the tools in the world and completely sucks. 3 - Alex Brown is my hero. Great, great stuff from him. Peace -
Thanks but that wasn't the argument. Peace
-
DE is absolutely one of our top 5 needs. Brown can stay but Ogy has got to go. He is not worth the salary he is paid. We need pressure from our D-line and we are not getting it. I would replace QB with DE as a top 5 need. Draft a QB in the 4th round or lower to develop if you want. Peace
-
Agreed. What was embarassing were the losses to Atlanta and Tampa. We win either of those games, we are in the playoffs. Peace
-
That is incorrect. We had the ball on the Houston 40 yd line. Hester ran a deep seem pass in the middle of the field and caught the ball on the 4 yd line. He was touched down at the 1 yd line. Peace
-
Hampton thinks Orton will return to the form he showed at the beginning of the yr when healthy. He also thinks our receivers are crap. I think you need to please stop with Kyle is not the answer. This is a discussion board and that is my opinion. I respect your opinion and will not ask you to change it. Please don't ask me to change mine. The only home run threat we have is Hester. Davis is a 5th wide receiver who is a good special teamer. Lloyd does not have break away speed but isn't really a possession receiver. Booker was to be our possession receiver this yr but completely disappointed and looks to be gone. Bennett hardly saw the field. We need a WR that can fight for the ball and move the chains. Whoseyourmamma is that player. Peace
-
Hester had a catch for over 40 yds today. I thought you watched the game. Why are we arguing about QB??? You honestly see that as the problem on this team??? Our over-paid, over-hyped defense lost this games today as they did several of the games earlier this yr. The only team with more money spent on defense is Baltimore and they are a hell of alot better. Peace
-
Biased??? Whatever. I share same opinion as Dan Hampton on Orton. Call my biased if you like. McNabb is out the question because he is still under contract with Philly and they just made the playoffs. He is not going anywhere. Cassell - no thanks. He's surrounded by all-pros in NE. I personally can't imagine him having success here with WRs and O-line we have. Peace
-
Good for Rex. I'll take Kyle over Rex anyday. Kyle finished with approx. 3000 yds, 18 TD, 12 ints, and 3 rushing TDs in 15 games with crap at WR. He will start next yr. Hopefully Angelo will give him some tools to use. Peace
-
Orton was over 60% completion rate before the injury. He spoke of the biggest change he made this yr was to his footwork. The injury negated his footwork. I think he will look much better next fall when he returns healthy. Peace
-
The Bears are not getting McNabb. Peace
-
Orton looked good today. He will most likely be given the job next yr. Wait until 5 or 6 games in before deciding to extend him. Bring in a vet to compete with him (Garcia is my choice). Peace
