On Moss - I believe 20 other teams passed on Moss. Look, he blew off an interview with the Bears. He was obviously a problem child because his skill was definately top 5 but he fell into the 20s. You can't blame the Bears for passing on him given that 1. RB was clearly a greater need and 2. Moss was judged as a huge character risk. Just wish the would have taken Taylor instead of Enis. On Milke Williams, you can believe all you want that given different circumstances he would have panned out. The one fact that we know is he is a certified bust. Peace

Like you said, we can agree to disagree. No issue with that. Peace

When Detroit drafted Caleb Campbell from Army. I hate the kittens but I will be rooting for this kid to succeed. Peace

I understand that just because you do something for a long time doesn't necessarily make you good at it. I work with several individuals who prove that out and I'm sure you do as well. My point would be that this is a full time job (probably more than a full time job from what you hear in the NFL). You make it sound like someone could take up the analyzing film, reports, etc...and be just as good as the Bears while holding down a full time job at whatever they do for a living. I simply do not agree that, on average, someone with limited resources (time, information, training, etc) would do better than someone who does the job for a living. Peace

We've gone round and round on this one before. I disagree with this statement. I am not saying they are above criticism. I definately think they have real problems drafting offensive talent. This, however, is what they do for a profession. This is what they have done most of their lives. If someone on this board were to devote yrs to doing the above plus traveling and meeting with coaches, players, etc...then maybe they could have the same track record. Peace

My only issues with the draft: 1. Not drafting a QB (should have traded back up into the 6th and grabbed one. 2. Waiting until the 7th to draft additional O-lineman. Bowman may have been their best player on the board, but I think they should have addressed o-line with that pick. Peace

The lefty - wow!!! Peace

Oops. Well, your getting 5th round money son. Peace

Where would you have liked us to draft him??? Balt took him at 18. There is no way we could take him in the first round given our other needs (O-line, RB). Peace

I would like Bennett. I'm sure since we drafted Williams, our scouts know all about Bennett. Peace

Nowhere have I read he is projected as a FB. In the guide I am referring to, they have him ranked behind McFadden, Stewart, Mendenhall, Jones, and Rice. I prefer Forte over Rice mainly because of size (Rice is 5'8", 197 - Forte is 6'1" 217). I don't see him having the size to play FB (he would need to put on another 25 pounds). Further, he runs a 4.46 and putting on the weight to play FB would most certainly cut into his speed and ability to cut. He was a runningback in college and he will be a runningback with the Bears. They did not bring him in because they thought he could play FB. The think he can be a load back (25 to 30 carries a game). Peace

Colt Brennan, in the 3rd???? Maybe in the 6th or 7th but in the 3rd - no way. Peace

24 is Ricky Manning Jr 26 is McBride I bet he gets 35. Peace

Dude - I was simply noting that Pro Football Weekly had him listed at 197. If he is 203, great. He still needs to put on another 10 pounds in my opinion. Peace

The ProFootball Weekly 2008 Draft Preview. This is actually like a book in that it runs $19.95. I have been getting this for the last 10 yrs. Ships at the beginning of April. In the the preview, they have him ranked as the 6th best running back. Please explain the following: he was ranked to go in the 3rd or 4th round. listed as the 7th best rb in this magazine. Edit: he was also ranked in this magazine as the 15th best running back in the draft. Which is it 7th or 15th? Bottom line, this is the guy they targeted. That's fine if you don't like him. I do. I have been talking about him for the past 3 weeks. I would have loved to get Mendanhall but I felt the most pressing need was OT. If we had waited to get OT, we would have been screwed. I was hoping we would trade up and snag Mendy but it didn't work out that way. Forte was the next RB I was interested in (given who was off the board already) so, as I said, I am happy with the pick. Peace

PFW had him at 197. For the types of hits he was dishing out, I think he will need to put on another 10 to 15 pounds. Peace
-
Holy crap is that funny!!!!!! Peace

I agree 100% with this. We took LT right where we needed to. I also see the drafting of Forte signaling the eventual end of Benson in Chicago. Unless he gets his head out of his ass, he is done in the NFL. Peace
-
Looks great but checking him in the PFW draft book it looks like he needs to put on some weight. Would not mind it if we grabbed him in a lower round. Peace
-
I would love to see Schuening but will pass on the other 2. I don't think Dixon would fit our system and Manningham is an idiot (scored a 6 on the wonderlic). Give me Early Doucet instead. Peace

You're assuming someone would have traded with us so we could move back up into the first. I completely disagree with taking a QB in the 2nd. Our 2 greatest needs were O-line and runningback. We addressed both today. Haugh said the Bears had been targeting Forte and were extremely happy to get him. I am not sure what guides you are reading, but I always get the ProFootball Weekly draft guide. Here is there summary on him: A big, strong hard charging, one cut runner with the vision, instincts, and toughness to be effective running inside. Has shown he could carry an offense and has the ability to develop into a workhorse. Peace

Because he violated his probation and his actions are an embarassment to the NFL. Peace

Great job running the draft Balta. Peace
