Latest Mock Draft
That statistic thing was about saying Carolina has this many picks on the oline compared to Dallas... etc. Using a stat like that barely skims on why a team is playing well or not. All three of our drafted offensive lineman that you refer too as being failures, two were due to significant injury after the draft (Columbo/Carimi). They both suffered right knee injuries, that would require years to regain strength. They were both selected with the 29th pick in the first round also. No player will want to be taken by the Bears again if they pick 29th. Chris Williams was an awful pick, they clearly didn't do there homework since he had a herniated disc also. I wanted Brandon Albert that year and was like Chris who? Finding proven players in FA usually costs a fortune or takes many trials and errors. The consistently good teams in the nfl only use FA on rare occasions. I am waiting for the Bears to get to that level. I am not saying Oline is the only way to go RD1, I want BPA that fills a need.

Is the Kyle Long experiment over?
Unless you can get a Luke Kuechly.

Latest Mock Draft
The Cowboys oline is great, they are better suited to run than pass imo. The issue should be take the best player that suits a need, not take a certain position like a skill over trench bc of a statistic made up to prove a point. The O-line is a position of need on the Bears, just like LB, S, CB and DT will be. When the Bears turn comes up to pick, they will have a handful of players on their big board that may look like: 1.Robert Nkimdiche DT 2. Ronnie Stanley OT 3. Jaylon Smith LB 4. Myles Jack LB 5. DeForest Buckner DT 6. A'Shawn Robinson DT So now they have to decide which player will give the Bears the best shot at winning. Any of these names would not surprise or upset me unless they say, we have to grab the best skill player.... Laquan Treadwell is the top skill on the board lets load up on WR.

Latest Mock Draft
Knowingly that we have 9 picks in this coming draft, I wouldn't want to trade down unless the price is ransom. If they can have another repeat draft like last, I would be pleased. This turn around will take a few drafts. With the first pick, getting a OLT, CB, DT, or MLB that can be a difference maker would be a huge start.

I was just doing a couple mocks and one was with Stanley and then Scooby. The other was Stanley, DT Kenny Clark, and 3rd Rd LB Tyler Matekovich from Temple.

Is the Kyle Long experiment over?
I think they need to draft a OT in the top 3 rounds. Tunsil, Stanley or Conklin would make a nice addition. I would re-sign Montgomery again to push Grasu, who needs more strength and better technique.

They can have him. He doesn't seem like a good team player, but has loads of athletic ability. If the Bears select top 10, hopefully a QB or two go ahead of us and we have a shot at Tunsil, Stanley, Ramsey, Hargreaves, or Jaylon Smith/Myles Jack. The way the Bears work, they will probably win out and draft 17-20.

For those wanting to drop Gould
The Bears depend on having a great kicker, but the old good as Gould has checked out. Time to hang him up. His head is now out of it. Can he get it back? Not worth 4 million for that head game when they can pay a young Gould that is hungry to make it.

Zach Miller
I wouldn't just cut Bennett. He is under a reasonable contract and it is not like TE's grow on trees. If they can get a minimum 5th round pick then maybe. Miller is looking great and has a much better attitude though. If we can draft another solid starting OT/OG, I think we can free up our TE's more. Every comment you here from the team is Bennett will be missed in the blocking game. He was leaned on a lot to block.

Time to start talking draft
RG is a place of need. I would have no issue in starting him there to get him accumulated to the speed of the NFL. If he progresses like Long, move him outside. His foot speed may be something that can be improved. I like his heart though, to walk on and earn his scholarship shows dedication.

OMG CUT MARIANI
With our WR depth, I like him in the slot. Poor mans Wes Welker. But on returns, maybe time to try Thompson on punts.

Bears vs 49ers Game Thread
Crazy. They play to the level of competiton. Gould owes this one to the team.

Bears vs 49ers Game Thread
I think he see the writing on the wall himself, but hopefully they offer a modest contract to him. The Bears have a nice group of backs that will all want the rock. Competition is a great thing.

Per PFT, we'll have $60 in cap space next season
Ha, you are correct on spotrac. Porter and McClellin I think will take a little more. I figured ILB's going rate at 4yr 20, CB may take a little more. Porter may be 3 yr 18.

Per PFT, we'll have $60 in cap space next season
As the cap goes up, so does the contacts. We will have 34 players under contract and I would think to keep any kind of faith between players and the organization, you have to reward the players who's contracts are up that have played well. Jeffery, Porter are two that stand out the most. Looking at Sportrack, them too could easily eat 20+. After taking care of our own first that we feel deserving, I can see 20 left to mingle with.

Gafford Cut
Rodgers should look in the mirror and see that he has struggled nearly all year too. Hopefully we see improvements on the ST's as a whole. I do understand that until we get a core of set starters, ST will be a rotation and hard to get consistency.

Jay Cutler numbers through 11 weeks
Immense talent, but nearly every week is a different group. I think we are one or two Olinemen away and if we have this group all healthy, they can be top 10 on O.

Interesting thought...
It is a pipe dream. I can see Fox bringing more Broncos over. B Marshall is another name I know you like who may get to test the market. Maybe they look to upgrade LB with a FA and draft DL. DeForest Buckner -6-7 300 , athletic end that is stout against the run. Pass rush is unknown since Oregon uses him inside on pass situations or as a demolition ball to open space for LBs to be free. or Robert Nkimdiche- same size as SF DE Justin Smith at 6-4 285. Buckner/Nkimdiche - Goldman - Jenkins/Ferguson/Sutton Ferguson and Sutton can both spell Goldman at nose.

The way I look at the draft, you want to address needs along with BPA. OLB, we will see McPhee, Houston, and Young next year under current contracts. The only talent I see who would be BPA to take is Myles Jack, who I see going top 10ish. ILB, we will have Jones and Anderson under contract, and I foresee McClellin re-signed. Jaylon Smith or Reggie Ragland would fill a semi need and Smith would be BPA with Ragland possibly getting that title. DE, we will have Ferguson (suspended 4 games), Sutton (I bet he has surgery on bicep offseason), Washington in the mix. DL is a major need, but I want that to get addressed with Muhammad Wilkerson. If we draft, I like Buckner or Nkimdiche. OT should be considered and OSU Taylor Decker may be BPA for RT. With my process laid out, Id go: 1. Reggie Ragland LB - I do not see anyone other than DeForest Buckner DL or Taylor Decker OT availabe. 2. SS -Jayron Kearse, Jeremy Cash 3. OLB - Dadi Nicholas 4. OT

At 5T, I like DeForest Buckner. He has some length to him. Round two, I also like Scooby!
