  1. My take on Hester is he went from being a player without a position to a DB to a KR extraordinaire to being paid to be a number 1 WR. Not his fault but if he was successful at it Marshall wouldn't be here or Jeffrey. He is too moody and if he is not involved in the game early he sulks and disappears. In the last 2 season the one thing he excels at he has been mediocre at best and that is returns. I like the thought of drafting either Marquise Goodwin Texas or Kenjon Barner of Oregon to be eihter a guy that stretches the field Goodwin or a guy that can help create mismatches on LBs with Barner.
  2. I'm ok with most of your scenario but,I don't believe that Louis should get more than 4 yrs and if you are going to draft a MLB don't resign Urlacher. Also if you trade down what do you gain from the trade. You either get a 3rd this year or a 1st next year.I like the thought of Bushrod added because of the new OC but if I draft Jones he is my center and Garza moves to LG with a 4th rd draft pick like Brian Winters out of Kent State that looked solid during Senior Bowl practice.
  3. I have started to align myself with Mayock's thinking for the most part because he and Charles Davis do analysis on college games during the season as opposed to Kiper and McShay who don't do games. The fact that he had a cup of coffee in the league helps his opinion have merit. If I had to pinpoint one spot where he excels at is the defensive backs and that is the position he played but like most scouts and draftniks he misses on some O-Linemen which tends to be the biggest crap shoot.

    Jared Cook

Since this is a new coaching staff, I'm wondering how anyone could pinpoint what type of player this staff would covet at any position on offense.
  5. I'd rather keep Urlacher for another year than sign Barnett who also is up in years.
  6. I have two young DEs that were drafted in the last couple of years with one being a 1st rounder(Wooten and McClellin) plus Peppers why would this team think of Melton in any other way than DT?
  7. The last administration is still in place when it comes to contract negotiating Stein and Phillips.
  8. First of all no one rates a draft after year 1 and this is unusual to even be discussing this.BTW Frey is on a futures contract so he has a chance to still make an impact. For the record Kiper isn't the end all be all as a draft analyst and I believe some of the members of the board have a better assessment of what the Bears needs are and the impact of their picks have done.

    3-4s are sexy

Though the last two teams standing play a 3-4 scheme, this years playoffs show that the scheme can be attacked with the "read option" and with variations of the spread. Teams are taking RBs and TEs and spliting them out wide to get that favorable matchup one on one. Many of the Packer fans have been calling for Capers head so I'm not so sure that his version is one we should hold up as the model to follow.Dick LaBeau of Pittsburgh is another of the old guard 3-4 guys and his defense was a little down this year. The Patriots version hasn't worked since Vrabel, Law and McGinest have left so like what was said earlier this thread the players executing make whatever scheme work. BTW Whatever PFF says Lance Louis was the Bears best OL this year even though he missed quite a few games. If healthy,he and Garza should be the guys to build around.Since Joeckel and Fisher are sure to be gone by the 20th pick and I believe the spot is too early to take Lane Johnson so I'm still on the Barrett Jones bandwagon with the idea of Garza going back to left OG. I may be wrong but I believe thet the top FA OTs are Bushrod, Long and Clady. If Bushrod is one of them I could see our new OC, his former coach ask for him to be added to the mix. I believe Carimi and Webb should both be backups with some younger guys added as competition like draftable guys OTs Johnson or Long in rd. 2. McClellin played almost like a roving position on Boise's defense and would drop in coverage similar to what Marinelli was doing with him at times.I could see a scenario where Roach is brought back at a salary thats a better fit than Urlacher's and McClellin moving to OLB and and rushing on 3rd and long in a morphed version of 3-4 with Wooten ,Peppers and Melton rushing also. The new DC's version of the cover 2 4-3 is a little similar to the one used by Jauron and Blache here with a bigger DT inside that takes up blockers and I'm not sure wehave a player like that on the roster right now.
  10. There's a prospect named David Quessenberry that played OT at San Jose St. that has been working inside at OG and looking good.Brian Winters OT Kent St. is playing inside also and has some nasty in him.
  11. Vance Mc Donald of Rice 6-4 262 looks like the matchup nightmare part at TE in SB practice and he currently has a late round grade and Phil and Marc were sitting right next to each other in the stands.I hope they had their eyes focused on some good talent.

    WR coach

Totally agree because so many of the young WRs under his watch had to be "redshirted" I still believe he was hyped too much from his days at Texas because of Roy Williams and Limas Sweed who did nothing on the pro level. His really heated exchanges sometimes with the media also showed his lack of professionalism. I would have helped him pack at my expense.
  13. I've watched Fisher practice two straight days at the Senior Bowl and he has been dominating everyone one on one. The only guy he had trouble with was Datone Jones of UCLA.
  14. Even sadder is that the T'eo story has trumped all things NFL. BTW Mike Mulligan (jerk) was really sounding like he was trying to be smarter that evryone else when asking questions of the new HC about his plans, schemes, etc. and to Trestman's credit he gave the media nothing definitive.

My praise was not to stroke you but to be honest about the posts that you started and some of your responses to other posts and you are right about accountability. Your ability to pull up a specific play this late after the season is impressive. So with me continuing to sound like a recording I know you will not hold back if I ask you what about Butch Davis to replace Marinelli?
  16. Jason I knew I could count on you. With all the knuckleheads already in the league for me to pass judgement on a 21 year old kid that may or may not have made a mistake would make me a hippocrate. Even when I was in my 30's I did some bonehead things that I feel embarrassed about ,but I was still able to pursue work with no one asking me anything about my personal mistakes. So lets look at this in a realistic ND sports info way. What would bring the greatest attention to our university besides a national championship? Lets fabricate a story that is so heartwarming that T'eo would win the Heisman Trophy. No football players could come up with something like that because that is too far-fetched.So why not grill the sports info director at ND? Why would a kid from Hawaii decide that after 3 years at ND I'm going to conjure up a story about my grandparent dying and 6 hours later my girlfriend dies?

TT dude here lately you have been on fire. Good post. The reason why Singletary even got HC consideration in SF was because of how well the defense was playing. The only difference is that in Balt and SF he worked under Mike Nolan's 3-4 scheme but I'm sure he has forgotten more about being in the 4-3 than others even know.
  18. I'm probably sounding like a recording but, since Trestman is from the Miami Hurricane Jimmy Johnson tree why not put a call out to Butch Davis. He is a 4-3 guy and considered a DL guru.
  19. If Marinelli leaves then I would atleast make a phone call to Butch Davis and see if he wants back in the NFL.He too is considered a great DL coach and some of the prospects he developed at UNC are starting to get notcie in the league plus he is adept at the 4-3 scheme.
  20. With all the morons that have been in this league and are still in the league, someone will take a chance on him whther he did this or not.
  21. There's that replacement for Izzy next year.

    Terra's New Mock

I'm not disputing that thought but,I'm pointing towards Emery and how he made his picks. He passed on the OL from Iowa and then traded up in round 2 for Jeffrey.I agree that SMC was not a true fit for Lovie's DE position in the scheme and that was backed up by seeing him dropped in coverage at times.I still believe he may windup at LB and I have said I thought he might be considered Urlacher's replacement.

    Terra's New Mock

What round was Nick Mangold drafted?I remember there was a time when RBs were drafted always in the first round. That doesn't happen so often now. Then there was a time when OG's were not drafted in the first round. That trend is starting to change. It is time for the Bears to think out of the box. BTW did you see the McClellin pick coming last year. With Jones having played C,OG and OT I believe that he is versatile enough to be considered at the 20th pick just like Pouncey that went to the Steelers at the same pick.

I too am on board with Jones being drafted to play center and move Garza to LG. Seeing Jones push his QB on the field was a plus to me and I can only think that he would set the tone for an OL's attitude. This to me also makes Webb not a fit on a unit led by Jones because he let Cutler push him with no response on the field. In the NFC North our OL needs to get nasty if they want to change the fortunes of this team when we go up against the packers, vikings and lions.
