  1. Jason this is not to get in the middle of you and Mongo I just want to know that when you are breaking down the film (game) that your wife bust your chops about is it the regular broadcast or is it the coaches film? I personally thought in the Browns game watching the Bears Network broadcast on Fox here in Chicago that the back ups looked much better than the first string line sans Williams at OC. Henry at OG ,Brown and Brandon at OT looked like they all were worthy of a roster spot and since the rumor has it that they may keep 4 TEs an undrafted rookie is just as good to help as Webb or Williams. Since I can only watch the BN broadcast and I am usually slleepy while doing it during the preseason, I generally wait for a rebroadcast on the BN or NFL Network before I form my opinion. So really what I'm saying is I agree with you that neither guy has outplayed the other and what everyone else is saying is that who sucked less. Lets all face it they both sucked.
  2. Last year the Bears Thurs Nite game was broadcast on WPWR channel 50 or channel 8 on Comcast.Last year I didn't have cable last year but was able to watch the game on free TV. I'm not so sure what channel the MNF games came on but I believe it was WLS channel 7. If you have a digital TV you'll just need a antenna for the no cable option. Non digital TVs need a converter box to get the over the air signal. Last season I didn't miss a game and was able towatch the Thurs and Mon Nite games.
  3. The players have voted and the consensus is that Jay Cutler is not one of the top 100 players in the league but Tim Tebow currently a backup is.This just solidifies all the stupid tweets from the previous year when Cutler got hurt during the NFC Championship game. There is no way that Tebow or even some of the fullbacks voted in the top 100 should be ranked ahead of Cutler. This is why I hate these stupid polls.
  4. But they( Det) will be in the principle's office for most of the season. That has to be factored in when you evaluate a team/division. The AFC East and The AFC North are 2 divisions that we should keep an eye on. Buffalo's improved roster plus the Patriots perennialy being in the mix as well as the Jets. Balt. is always there and Pitt is always there and have upgraded their OL Cinci is on an up swing and Cleve. can't be any worst than Minn.
  5. When the debate on this roster is between Webb and Brown its a wash because Webb was drafted by the Bears because they thought someone else would draft him before FA. The whole key is how Williams is viewed. If he is viewed as a OT then Brown and Webb should be relegated to backups( considering Williams plays like a 1st Rd talent at the position.)One of the best OTs in recent memory on the Bears was an undrafted free agen DT James "Big Cat" Williams and no he didn't start as a rookie at OT but he did get significant playing time at DT when he was a rookie and once he was switched to the offensive side of the ball he almost immediately got the starting spot. During Walter Payton's playing days the Bears drafted 4 first round OTs. Dennis Lick, Ted Albrecht, Keith Van Horne and Jimbo Covert. The first two were early on and were surronded by the likes of Jeff Sevy,Dan Peiffer and Noah Jackson. Two World Football League refugees and Jackson was from the Canadian Football League. The last two were the bookends on the 85 SB team and were surrounded by Tom Thayer a draft pick that played in the USFL, Jay Hilgenberg a UDFA and Mark Bortz a DT converted to OG.All of this points towards the coaching in each situation and now whatever the case may be all signs point to Tice.
  6. TO has always been a tool even when he was with the 9ers and prolific.Just think back when Rice was playing his last game with the team and he set a record for receptions in a game against the Bears and kept demanding the ball.He has always been about himself and the fact that he is being declared a dead beat dad which I can relate to since when I got a divorce my child support came directly out of my check wherever I worked. Again talking about this is a moot point but obviously the offense now is predicated on pleasing Jay and getting TO would not have been pleasing to Jay or the previous OC Martz. His system never was about featuring anyone at the WR position. If you look at Marshall Faulk's numbers in the system and Mattt Forte's you can see what position flourished. TO would have demanded the ball and the most important is Cutler would not have meshed with him.
  7. Since I believe the Bears should be drafting in the mid to late part of the draft, I have compiled some prospects who I believe they may have a shot at. QB My thinking is the other players on the roster including Jason Campbell are not the future so a mid round prospect needs to be looked at. I like Geno Smith of W Va. and Alex Carder of W Michigan as guys who might fit that profile. RB With the Forte contract saga probably going to drag out throughout next season a back that can compliment Bush may be in order. Spencer Ware of LSU and Cierre Wod of Notre Dame are 2 that I will keep an eye on. WR Now that we have some better talent at the position keeping some young depth coming in every year to be developed. Devin Street of Pitt and Eric Highsmith of UNC are 2 who I will watch. TE Every year this position will come under scrutiny until a play-maker emerges. Tyler Eifer Notre Dame and Mike Williams of Ala are 2 prospects that can satisfy the down the field and blocking on the edge type at this position. Maybe the Bears are looking to replace Spaeth with a cheaper option at the position. OT Just like the TE position until someone becomes a cornerstone at the position I will always be looking for a prospect to fill the LOT position. My eyes will be watching the likes of DJ Fluker ALA, Chris Faulk LSU, Tanner Hawkinson Kansas, Dallas Thomas Tenn, and Justin Pugh Syracuse OG This team keeps using patchwork pieces to put a comparable line together but it is time to spend some draft picks in this area and develop them to be the future protectors of your QB Barrett Jones Ala, Travis Fredrick Wis,Omeregi Uzzi Ga Tech, and Brian Mulroe Northwestern are some guys I'll be watching. C Long term Garza will not last forever and his replacement needs to be on the roster next Summer. DT A team heavy on DT rotation always needs to look for more young talent at this position and unless Melton does some significant stepping up a havoc wrecking prospect should be on the wish list as long as the Bears play this defense. Star Lotuleli Utah, Kwame Geather Ga,Akeem Spence Ill, and Cory Adams Az St. DE The age of our starters is up there and with a young DE just added the need for more competition and Corey Wooten needs to crap or get off the pot. Jackson Jeffcoat Texas,Devin Taylor So Car.,Dion Jordon Oregon and Lavar Edwards LSU are guys who will get my attention next college season 3/4 OLB Since the Bears took a "tweener" this year anything goes Jarvis Jones Ga,Michael Buchanon Ill, Trevardo Williams U Conn, and Joseph LeBeau Jackson St are guys who might be on the radar 4-3 OLB The Bear LBs are getting on in years and youth needs to be injected into the roster Nico Johnson Ala, Gerald Hodges Penn St., Chase Thomas Stanford, Jelani Jenkins Fla and Alonzo Highsmith Arkansas ILB How much time does Urlacher have left? Manti Te'O Notre Dame, Shane Skov Stanford, CJ Mosley Ala and Kevin Reddick No Carolina CB 2 young draft picks aside The team needs to get young at this position now. Tyrone Mathieu LSU, Xavier Rhodes Fla St, David Amerson NC St, and Terry Hawthorne Ill. S It wouldn't be a draft if the Bears didn't look at a safety TJ Mc Donald USC, Robert Lester Ala, Devonte Holloman So Carolina, and Javon Harris Okla These are guys I will be watching this upcoming college seaon.
  8. The continuity of getting the rookie deals done goes to Cliff Stein who took over for Teddy, who held the same position before being promoted to team president. If I can remember correctly the Bears have had only 2 holdouts recently Benson and Williams. Thats a pretty good track record.
  9. Its ironic that the guy taken in the draft at the Bears original pick signs here. This was the same draft that the Bears traded back and recieved an additional 2nd rounder that netted them Manning and Hester.Hopefully he will contribute more here than he has on his other stops.
  10. I might have to agree to disagree on Broyles because prior to his injury he was a better prospect than Wright IMO. Broyles was more of a known prospect than Wright was in August. He is the NCAA career reception leader at 349 and played 9 games last season with 83 catches and 10 TDs with a total of 1157 yards averaging 13.9 per catch. Thats not exactly short yardage pass catching. Wright played 4 more games(13) had 25 more catches amassed 506 more yards with 4 more TDs(14) and averaged 1.5 more yards per catch but avregaed one less catch per game compared to Broyles last season. If you project Broyles numbers for the same amount of games Wright played he would have made 11 more catches 2 more total yards and the same amount of TDs. I really believe that both players are similar and we should make sure we don't go to sleep on Broyles when he is on the field.
  11. Jake Long and Glen Dorsey. Long would solve the LT debate for years to come and at 6-1 297 Dorsey would be a better fit in our schem than Crennels 3-4.
  12. During the draft process Daniel Manning was looked at as CB. On nfldraftscout.com he was listed as a CB and in the East-West Shrine game which I watched he played CB in it and did well. I liked him coming out and was happy with the Bears taking him in the second round but it was obvious that he wasn't a quick study and only did well on things he didn't have to think so much about. So technically it was 6 straight years drafting a safety and 11 since 2002 with one converted to LB Rod Wilson and one CB Manning converted to safety. Here iss the complete list; Bobby Gray 5th '02 Todd Johnson 4th '03 Chris Harris 6th '05 Rod Wilson 7th '05 Manning 2nd '06 Kevin Payne 5th '07 Steltz 4th '08 Al Alfalava 6th '09 Wright 3rd '10 Conte 3rd '11 Hardin 3rd '12
  13. That is spot on! If they can get him off the training table and get him to where he was as a junior at Northwestern when he was a beast,we may have something. Wooten gaining weight on bad kness doesn't sound like a good idea.
  14. Some of the answers I felt pretty strongly about but not knowing which ones I got wrong is killing me.LOL!
  15. LT provided a link on his post and I clicked on it and it had some trivia questions.I do admit that while there the site said something about it being in error.
  16. He amongst us who has never flipped anyone off for any reason may criticize one who does! LOL Wow! Saturday Night Live once showed Walter Mondale flipping the bird during his presidential campaign back in the day and I liked it because it showed the real side of a politician. The QB of the 85 SB Champs mooned a helicopter during Super Bowl week that appeared on the back page of the Sun Times locally and everyone here said it was typical Jimmy Mack. Does anyone here remember the likes of Bryan Cox who this organization targeted as a free agent after he basically was shown the door in Miami after flipping "FANS" off while leaving the field after a game? Some of the legendary exploits of Ditka and O'Bradivich out on the town are part of the Bears mystic. So much is made of when these players do something negative in public but, not much is being said of some of the charitable work that Cutler and his fiance' did just last year because thats not sensational journalism.
  17. In recent memory MSW was a UFA campaigning to play for the Bears but, they showed moderate interest at the time. Why? I believe he is a me first type player and when he did put up those stats in Jax they decided to let their leading WR go FA. That says it all to me. I'd pass.
  18. If Wooten could stay healthy and start to produce all of a sudden the Bears have gotten youthful at DE and can entertain the thoughts of moving Izzy inside for the year.He has only signed a 1year deal so that could be an option. I don't consider Davis much of an option at age 29 and not much production last year. When you look at the Bears roster on the official site there are 2 players listed as DL ant the rest are either DT or DE and that is Melton and Idonije. In a " Kool-aid " fantasy world a DL on 3rd and long featuring Wooten, Peppers, Melton and McClellin wrecking havoc on opposing offenses would be nice and yes I do expect them to continue to use Peppers inside like last season.
  19. That could be said for every rookie WR that runs an inside slant on thee next level but, Broyles will get to run pretty free early on because of the fact that Megatron, Burleson and Pettigrew will be on the field at the same time making he and Titus Young basically drawing the least interest when they are on the field. If he is completely recovered from his injuries he could make a slight impact for the Lions.
  20. You left the Lions second round pick Ryan Broyles off their group and prior to his injury he projected as one of the top prospects in the nation.
  21. Agreed LT it seems now he goes out of his way to trash the Bears and to be honest het tries to take a lot of credit for the sucess of Pro Football Weekly but, I know that the late Joel Buschbaum had a big part in the initial success of that publication. I remember back in '97 getting a copy of the draft guide produced here in Chicago locally from a bindery that was putting the guide together from the shipping and recieving guy.Joel Buschbaum's name was all over it and not Hub's. BTW I used it to look up the likes of a late round pick out of Soth Carolina St. Marcus Robinson the last time the Bears picked a WR with today's coveted size that made an impact on the team.
  22. I got 6 of 10 and they asked shouldn't I be a Ravens fan by now.
  23. I remember back a few year ago when Hub Arkush was considered similar to Larry Mayer and now that he got launched he has been very critical of most of the Bears personnel moves be it draft or FA signings. I didn't like him when he brown-nosed and I don't like him now because he is such a wind sock.
  24. If they cut him now something must be up.Here is a chance for a guy to show he has developed and knows more of the defensive playbook but, that isn't going to happen why? He is McClellin's former teammate and I guess that meant nothing also.Obviously they must have brought in some young players in the secondary that they feel can fill his role on ST and contribute on defense also.
  25. I personally don't hold any professional athlete to any certain standards of how they should react to impromptu photos being taken of them when they are in thier private lives because if that were to happen to me I would react a lot more dramatically than flipping the bird to someone. Our revered head butting QB ( The league will use that against him in the lawsuit he is a part of.) of the 85 Bears pulled his shorts down during SB week for all the media to see and showed his fanny to a helicopter filming Bears practice. Why is showing your A** becoming for a Bears QB but flipping the Bird is not appropriate for a Bears QB? Those of you who feel that this is wrong look up the careers of guys like Bobby Lane and Billy Kilmer and see if what Cutler did is such a big deal.
