My bad! I have to admit I don't keep track of all other teams cap situations but,I just picked a team that is a scheme fit for Melton who lined up next to a space eating tackle coutld double his sack output.
-
It happened as a result of him driving over the speed limit in a downstate county in this weather. What a moron. He nust really believe that his roster spot and starting position are etched in stone when most of the pundits are saying the team needs help on the OL and his name is the first one mentioned in conjunction with the OL. I'm wondering how strong you are going continue to support a player who seems to be oblivious to how important his role is on the team if he is the starting LOT.

Why not have a Brandon Albert and Henry Melton? Both are entering their prime age-wise and are 2 of the most coveted players in FA. There are some things that can be done with cap to make it work like extend Tillman and Peppers and maybe dump some salary at other positions like RB,WR(Hester) and TE(Davis and Spaeth). I personally want the Bears to keep Melton, a player drafted and developed by the Bears. For all the angst over the last staff's lack of player development, this is one player they actually developed. If he is not resigned I could see the Cowboys with Kiffin and the guy who should get some credit for developing him(Marinelli)knocking on his door on day one of FA.

I agree that TE is the position to most likely have meteoric run during a round because of how much an impact the position has had in the league recently. Armstead is working his way into the 2nd day for sure.
-
My hope is Carimi stops reminding me of Marc Colombo.
-
Did you or did you not cherry pick 2 of the best sack artists in the league? Allen and Watt. The difference I see is that you won't see Watt for a few years but you may see Matthews and Smith every year with Matthews 2 a year. as long as he is in the NFC North and a negative play here or there can define a season.Just like some of the sacks came via stunt. How many times were the Bears in max protect with 2 man routes versus Allen and Watt who had to play on what was a pretty sloppy field here in Chicago.

In today's NFL you need good pass protectors on both sides because of the 3-4 defense teams are switching where the pressure is coming from and even the Bears have switched Peppers to the right side and to DT. Just like you never have enough pass rushers, you never have enough good pass protectors.

Whether Toub is smart or not doesn't matter when Andy Reid will be the one who would have to pull the trigger and that is why I stated he could lobby for him. Because I don't care to keep track of when bonuses are due and when money gets guaranteed for the season I can see Hester still here until he is owed the whole salary. I'm not sure who represents him but, I could see them asking for a trade just to see where the Bears are at.

Escobar didn't run as well as expected so his stock may drop a bit. McDonald is making a name for himself right now. His only problem is when they put on the tape from Rice he has only 2 years of tape to evaluate.

Since Jones is currently highly touted at interior after playing OT the previous year the comment speaks to his versatilty.Bruce Matthews made all-pro at 3 different OL positions and Jones has made all American at 3 different positions. I don't believe I can remember any OL prospect that has accomplished that regardless of what his coach says about him to enhance his recruiting,Jones accomplishments are a fact and this happened in the most competitive conference in the country.

We have one of the more recent champs on the bench in the weight room in Paea who I believe put up 30 plus during his bench press workout.

I posted that tongue in cheek in response to another post about someone being dumb enough to trade for Hester. All kidding aside Toub's reputation has been helped tremendously by Hester's exploits and I wouldn't be surprised if he lobbied Andy Reid for a chance to add him to the mix in KC.
-
My bad since you responded to my post I assumed you were talking about Henderson.
-
With Bruce Matthews name being used as a player he compares to from his head coach Nick Saban who knows a little about some players makes me standup and notice. Wagner plus what we have seen out of every prospect since Joe Staley tells me that some of the Badger OL are a bit overrated.Wisconsin is a great college program but since Barry Alvarez stopped coaching their players haven't transitioned well to the NFL

The only reason why Webb is still a Bear is because of Mike Tice who personally worked him out and prematurely installed him into the LOT starting spot before he was ready because the Bears drafted a 1st rd RT(Carimi). You can find a stat to support any point of view but, the eyes of a fan who has been watching football since 1966 say Webb is a worst OT than Dan Jiggetts who was a perrennial backup. Tice stubbornly refused to demote Webb but yanked Carimi out of the lineup after a couple of bad games but Webb,we have to continue to hear cut down on his mistakes last season. That like saying he didn't suck as much. Where his supporters throw up his games against Jared Allen and JJ Watt. How did he play in his last 4 games against Clay Matthews and the game this past season against Aldon Smith showed that he has a long way to go before he is a solid starting OT in the NFL.
-
Making that move which has been reported locally would cost the Bears 8 of their possible 11 million in cap space basically handicapping them to make other moves. A deal needs to be done to give the team more flexability.

Where's Dave Toub at?
-
I agree just using his name as a comparison. I can't see him coming up here and being a factor in this type of weather in Nov and Dec since he has played most of his life in Louisiana. I like th Idea of a draft pick to fill that role of speedy WR like Austin or Goodwin.
-
Since we currently don't have a 3rd I think that 2nd rounder may be open to more gambling. I'm looking at Wagner who played on the same line who didn't fare so well at the bench press so far at the Combine and couple that with Carimi getting blasted off the line by smaller guys in the NFL and I think that some of the Badger OL recently are a bit overrated. BTW Jones also played LT at Ala.
-
Webb continuing to start at LOT would be a mistake in my opinion and if I had to compare him to an LT of the past Bernard "False Start"Robertson comes to mind. Part of the problem is he was thrown into the fire too soon and the other problem is his drive. When you compare his drive to the OL prospect I have touted Barrett Jones there as different as night and day. When Jones QB got in his face ,he pushed him away and when Cutler pushed Webb during a game he just laughed about it. Webb is what he is a 7th round draft pick.

Welker may not fit dollarwise but if they go older FA then our OC might like the idea of adding Devery Henderson who he is familiar with similar to Greg Jennings link to Philbin in Miami.
-
His expected recovery is 4 months and should be able to take the field for May mini camps. With so many of the top prospects recovering from injury, I'm wondering if this drops him into the 2nd rd around the Bears pick. In Rd 2 I would take the plunge.
-
Jason interesting scenario but when trading back what are you projecting in return a 3rd? If that happens that is a perfect scenario and if they could mooch another pick from the next year even better.
-
Luke Marquadt and Terron Armstead 31 each,Lamar Mady 35 Eric Herman OL champ this year 36 TE champ Rice's Vance McDonald 31
-
Agreed but Emery proved last year he is not afraid to trade up for someone he likes.
