Jason I totally agree on your point but you know this is the thinking: Omayale has started, Williams has started and is a veteran an Spencer has experince and is verasatile especially after he stepped in for Louis in a pinch yesterday. So they think they have solid veteran backups on the O-line. WTBS I'm more concerned with the two tools he has gotten in the last couple of years Carimi and Webb. I think both had sub par games in terms of what they should be doing and given the 2 teams coming up I'm wondering if they can im,prove via film study and Tice magic dust.

Agreed and when you factor in the slide and the coverage sack it was an average performance whic is all we are looking for. BTW: If Webb has 30 holding penalties to keep guys off Cutler so be it as long as it doesn't take points off the board or put the Bears in a deep hole.

Its not too often that NFL teams can have 3 former head coaches as assistant coaches for 2 consecutive seasons as usually someone comes a callin' for their services. This unique situation we have here is something that we should watch closely. As most of the nation think the Bears are a luck based bunch, the fact that these 3 guys have coached up a couple of players on this team speaks volumes for their expertise. Martz: He obviously has had a positive effect on Jay Cutler with him getting in the best shape of his career even during a lockout offseason and he clearly has a grasp of what Martz is trying to do which makes me wonder if the 2 had secret meetings during the offseason. The way he is utilizing Forte as a receiver and in the run game lets me know that he isn't as mule-headed as we thought. The motivation tactic used on Johnny Knox seems to be working and his willingness to include an undrafted FA in his season opening game plans is a tribute to how he is adapting to his personnel. Tice: As was the case last year Tice's unit was a work in progress and if he does exactly what he did last season by coaching up a mediocre unit to okay, he can make an okay unit decent. Not good or great but decent especially if at this sack rate his unit will shave 8 sacks off of last years total whic IMO is still too many so just follow last year's progressionwhen they cut the sacks in half after the bye week. The key players that we need to target for Tices credibility are Webb and Carimi. The interior guys with Williams,Garza,Spencer,Louis and Williams are all veterans and just need to know the scheme. Marinelli: Clearly he has gotten quick results from one player that looks like he clearly has coached up and one other that looks like he is extremely motivated to play for him and these 2 are Henry Melton and Amobi Okoye.Peppers is playing his usual high level and Idonije is steady if not spectacular. I'm willing to say he has a little to do with Toeina's development but Adams as well as Toeina seem self motivated. If he continues to maximize the talents of this group of D-linemen this coould turn out to be a special season for this team. Also I'll give special mention to Ruskell for Reed on the defense line because watching him drop in coverage and cover a back showed me that he knows where he is supposed to be and that points to coaching in this shortened off season.

He has always been smart but, smart and stubborn don't mix. I also heard what I thought was a funny assessment of Forte. One of the local guys referred to Matt Forte as a Marshall Faulk cover band in this offense.

IMO the best play that Martz called was the play to Davis that Cutler overthrew missing an easy TD. He is clearly adapting to his personnel.

Harvin takes it to the house on opening kick for the Vikes.

I have to admit that once he gets done even my middle aged ass is ready to play. When he does the anthem and it is tied to a "National Event" whether it was the NFC Championship or this memorial occassion he gets my blood going.

For all the gloom and doom predicters especially the local guys, now that we have one in the win in the bag now whatis your prognostications?

I'm not sure if this is just a publicity stunt or not but I think Briggs has military in his family as well as Charles Tillman. That may be part of his motivation. Nowadays with these players you never know. He may change his name to Lance "Nessesscito Dinero". BTW his shoe company would have picked up the tab for the fine.

Mad L I gotta disagree with you about Smith being able to "chill out some hotheads" biggest example Tank Johnson. I guess we can throw in Benson and Garrett Wolf also. And since Kreutz broke a teammates jaw on an off day at an FBI facility that tells me that he was a hot head. Now as far as Manning is concerned I was one of the guys on the other site that was so happy about the pick but once I saw his football IQ on the field I dropped the "man crush" quick. I once saw Manning chasing a WR while a player with the ball was running past him. He excelled only when given simple things to do like, stand back at the goaline ,catch the ball and run fast. We all look at a guy with his athletic ability and scratch your head as to why there is no brain attached. This is typical of JA's 2nd and 3rd rounders since he has been here. For Every Peanut Tillman, Devin Hester and Lance Briggs there was a Ro Williams a Mark Bradley, Marcus Harrison,Dan Bazuin,Juaqin Iglesias, Bernard Berrien,Jarron Gilbert etc and a couple of bad trades to boot.

Grizz those were some really lean years and most of us fans held to the rally cry that we may not win but atleast you knew you were in a game when you played the Bears. I can't remember exactly who was in the backfield but Carl Garrett and Don Shy come to mind since this wasthe same year that Sayers couldn't catch Alan Page in the Armed Forces game.Maybe Joe Moore or Jim Harrison. On defense we had Butkus and Buffone at LB, with Ross Brubacher and maybe Willie Holman and Tony McGee at DE. I'll say some of the secondary was Joe Taylor CB ,Gary Lyle and Craig Clemons at safety and Charley Ford at the other CB.I still remember Douglass throwing 4 TDs with a broken arm here against Buffalo and the WRs being George Farmer and Jim Seymour. Kicker the bricklayer Mirro Roder?
-
The last time it happened was when they drafted Okowo in the 3rd rd which can be added to the list of 3rd round failures
-
I hope this is posted in a joking sense because with 3 CBs under 5-10 facing the teams in our division we would be in bad shape if J.Moore or DJ Moore were on the field for extended periods of time.

I agree with everyone because it is all good points being made. I happen to work with a person on my job who is 85 years old and I have worked next to that person for 9 years. So I have seen this persons skills deteriorate before my eyes, which is sad to watch its kinda like watching Gale Sayers try to chase down Alan Page In a preseason game and couldn't do it. In this instance I will refer to my co-worker as Todd Collins and say that the Bears couldn't cut him no matter how bad he sucks. Thats what I'm working with on a daily basis for no where near what Briggs has made on even his rookie contract so I will never understand what his motivation is or his reasoning for making his demands PUBLIC> In these economic times I'm sure that there are a lot of you who work with a "Todd Collins" and haven't had a raise for 4yrs but still except your lcurrent lot in life and plug on. Lance, just like when Wilbur Marshall left to the Skins,if you go don't let the door knob hit you where the good lord split you.

Adams,Horn and Allen To PS

Though Lovie downplayed the missed tackles by right in the redzone this move tells me that they are not satisfied at the position. Merriweather according to sources came into camp out of shape and also the Pats are changing how they play their defense in the secondary and his lack of discipline in the scheme meaning he would freelance a whole lot is one of the reasons for his release.
-
It does seem weird that there is quite a few guys grumbling throughout the league about their contracts after a lockout when no one lost money. All I know is that if I could go for more dollars on my current job but can't since my pay is truly collectively bargained by my union.
-
I need to give special mention to Benson also with his fumble in the SB. I think I created some new sware words on that play.
