  1. Over my many years of watching Bears football I have had some real highs and a whole lotta lows but when it comes to me spiking the Bears cap on the ground or chucking it at the tube one player made me sicker than anyone when I watched his constant miscues. That was Lew Barnes who was a WR/returner on I think the 87 Bears team. He was an adventure each return and you didn't know if he would cleanly field the punt, take it to the house or fumble it after running 30 yards with it.That year I think the Bears were 12-4 and hosted the Skins at Soldier's Field in the playoffs. The Bears had two critical fumbles in the game one by Payton and the other from Barnes late in the game with the Bears trailing. I also believe that was the game where Ditka started Doug Flutie and his old teammate Skins DC Ritchie Pettibon used a 5-man d-line and dared the Bears to pass with Flutie as he was the 3rd string QB that year behind Tomczak and rookie Harbaugh. Between me swaring at Ditka and Barnes and throwing my 85 SB Champs t-shirt at the TV the kids were spooked by me until the game was over. Lew Barnes gets my vote with Bernard "False Start" Robertson a close second and Rashan Salaam gets honarable mention.
  2. Hes the "Red Shirt" this year placed on IR with a back issue that may require surgery.
  3. Here is Gore and Forte"s career stats Gore 6yrs rushing 1371 att. 6,414 yds 4.7 avg receiving 270 catches 2,283 yds 8.5 avg per rec Forte 3yrs rushing 811 att. 3,236 yds 4.0 avg receiving 171 catches 1,495 yds 8.7 avg per rec. Lets factor in Forte gets more rushing attempts and is more durable and obviously more involved in the passing game and I would say the stats are comparable with Forte actually averaging more yards per season 1577 to Gore's 1449.5 over their careers. To me right now Forte may have the better future since Gore has not played a full season since 2006.

    Typical BS

Tony Dungy's version of this defense is a hybrid of the defense the Steelers of the Steel Curtain played since that is the team he played with professionally as a safety after being a Qb at the university of Minnesota. That defense featured some pretty undersized LBs as HOF MLB Jack Lambert played at about 215 and HOF WLB Jack Ham at about 225. The key to that whole defense was the front four generated a lot of pressure by themselves led by HOF DT Joe Greene. They had one HOF DB in cornerback Mel Blount. So thats 4 HOF players on the same defense. That would make any scheme successful. The Bears version currently has 3 potential HOF players(Peppers,Urlacher and Briggs) with Briggs being the least likely to make it because of the perception of him being good because of scheme and Urlacher playing next to him. Much was said about the success of Buddy Ryan's 46 defense in 85 but a lot of people don't realize that he had been the DC here since 1978 at first under Neil Armstrong and then the players led by Gary Fencik campaigned for Ryan to stay with the team by going to Papa Bear before he hired Ditka. Until that scheme got all the right guys with Wilbur Marshall being the last one it had moderate success. Lance Briggs for all his dumb quotes and actions off the field is a helluva WL backer on the field and since he has made quite a few pro bowls and seems to have that same sentiment from around the league.
  5. This is how Drew operates but it is up to his client to set the standard. When Briggs signed his deal it was front loaded with money so naturally now the money is not good but what he has pocketed over the first half of the deal is pretty damn good. I believe this situation is a little similar to when Thomas Jones wanted to be traded and the Bears abliged him because of the way he handled himself. Jones had the same agent but approached the situation differently directly with JA. Maybe if Drew could get Briggs a few endorsements instead of trying to get all his money from the Bears it would be a different story. Have I missed something? What is he endorsing? A multi-pro bowl LB and he has no major endorsements in this town. Even AP who had a speech problem had an endorsement deal.

    So far

Id say the Bears are on top with the Browns a close second with the likes of Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly. The Rams I rank 3rd with the Steelers and Cowboys tied for 4th and the Lions 5th.
  7. Nfo he has been standing on the sidelines in shorts and a baseball cap during games all preseason. That tells me he is nursing an injury of some sort. When I have seen clips from the local media here at camp and he is standing on the side there also almost right next to Anthony Adams. He has practiced some with the 1st team but I haven't seen him in any of the games and I have watched them all.
  8. Its Michael Wright of ESN Chicago who covers the Bears along with Jeff Dickerson for them and maybe they have a "scoop".
  9. I would kick the tires but, this is one of the occassions that if he doesn't want to come in at the Bears number, have a nice life. I loved Brown here but he always seemed to only play half the season or show up half the time. I know that is kind of the position that DEs play because, that was one of the knocks on newly enshrined HOFer Richard Dent. I just hope in most cases that when it comes to choosing developing a younger player or a veteran I hope they go for the younger choice.
  10. Thank you on two fronts. First for calling me the name that only my friends call me(I consider you on this site as one of them) and second for spelling out some of the Texas look at what we have in Williams.I have been more active recently in posting here and have actually learned how to use more of the features getting me out of the dark ages.lol Sam Hurd is a personal favorite of mine because of his NIU connection and I hope that he makes the team just because of his special teams prowess but if a guy like Kris Adams is waived or even the other kid Jones because of what Hurd might do then I may have a slight problem with it because the guy that Hurd replaced Davis treated the preseason as if his life depended on it.I haven't seen too much of Hurd at all.
  11. 4yrs 53 mill 30 guaranteed.
  12. Welcome Back NFO we could have used your insight on Williams and Barber. I look forwrad to reading your posts blasting JA lol.
  13. Now its another miscommunication episode with this team.According to Lovie,Taylor sought out a meeting to define his role with the team because of his lack of playing time in Sat. game. Taylor left the meeting feeling that he would be cut and informed his agent that was the case. Now how does a classy veteran misunderstand a coach's words in a one on one meeting?
  14. Again I will state that how long does it take to get all of the Bears protections, line adjustments on blitzes etc.? If it takes 10 days fine then sign him and make it 4 guys on the roster that can play center but no one to play RG.
  15. He's 32. We had that in Kreutz.
  16. The numbers now don't lie but the numbers back when George and Butkus played are skewed at best. As for Butkus, those of us that have actually watched him play know that the other team literally feared him on all game days. I can't say the same about any LB on the Bears since with the slight exception to Wilbur Marshall who may never get HOF consideration. Teams still try to go at both Urlacher and Briggs no matter what their status is in regard to pro bowls and being all pro. Don't get me wrong these to guys are two of the games finest lbs but when we start trying to compare them to some of the lbs from previous generations you have to be careful because the gus back in the day took pain killing shots on game day and worked jobs during the offseason.
  17. I understand you are saying that he is to be added for depth purposes but,I see that Spencer has not been able to crack the lineup since he arrived at TC and Gourode would be hard pressed to pick it up in what realistically will be about 10 days before the season opener. I still hold out hope that the Bears send the same message that they sent to Johnny Knox to Lance Lois and demote him for Spencer/Garza.
  18. JD didn't confirm the cutting of Chester Taylor but says that he doesn't figure in the teams plans going forward. He also says that he is not sure that his name will be one of the 5 on the cut list.
  19. What do you do with Spencer who is playing pretty good in the games and is making a few dollars for the Bears right now.
  20. They are reporting sources say Chester Taylor is gone. This was just reported on the Waddle and Silvy show and I'm waiting for an update from Jeff Dickerson who covers the Bears for this station.

    SANZENBACHER

flea I consider it as a reason to justify their faith in an undrafted rookie. If he ever had to return a punt in a game after all the others you have in mind, we would be in a pickle.
  22. After watching the game last night it is clear that Bennett is the Bears go to WR.Bennett and Sazenbacher are fearless.
