How in the world is Gale Sayers in the Hall of Fame?
lemonej replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
Wow that brought back memories and seeing him stop on a dime and change directions is similar to some of what Forte does with his jump cuts. Then that really dangerous way he carried the ball like it was a loaf of bread was classic. Thanks for posting that link. -
How in the world is Gale Sayers in the Hall of Fame?
lemonej replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
Rookie year 1965 22 TDs in 14 games and BTW with Sayers being injured 2 of his 7 seasons his stats were amassed in actually 5 years. Sayers didn't vote himself into the HOF, the writers and members of the HOF did so that speaks more volumes than anything that I could say about one of my childhood idols. There is only one other HOF player that I can think of off the top of my head that has a short playing career and that is former Dolphin center Dwight Stephenson who also only played 7 years so what stats can you use to determine how a center can make the HOF in such a short career. Of course he is the center piece for my argument in favor of Jimbo Covert getting in to the HOF. Sayers was a bigger part of the Bears team than Forte is now because he also ran back kicks and punts.Sayers also didn't take himself out of games when he felt winded.I've seen Forte do this on plays right after he has made a long run. At least Forte has a decent QB,Sayers played with the likes of Rudy Bukich,Jack Concannon,Larry Rakestraw,Virgil Carter,John Huarte and later Bobby Douglass. You think the WRs are mediocre now, back then the Bears had Johnny Morris at the end of his career and Dick Gordon who was drafted in the 65 draft with Butkus and Sayers along with fullback Andy Livingston who never met a cheeseburger he didn't like. -
Vanity 6 + Appolonia 6 = no talent but nice on the eyes! Speaking of Prince proteges' the girl in the "You've got the look " video known as Cat is actually from my highschool and her older sisters were hotter than her IMO.

Adams was a late scratch(inactive) because his continued not much publicized bout with gout. Since the Bears are real sketchy with details of players injuries, some of the injuries he has been said to have had may really be related to his battle with gout.

I agree. Why? Because Cutler showed almost on que with ESPN's annoncers that he and Earl Bennett have chemistry on the field.

Sad thing is I have 1 and 3 on VHS and wish I could get 2 without going on the web. Looking at that clip reminds me of Axel,Rosewald and Taggert in the strip joint with"Nasty Girl" playing in the background.

Once again strange things can happen and I agree with your previous assessments about the line and what you say currently about SUSTAINED success for this line but I will say that it is a 3 game total of 3 sacks over the last 3 games as oppossed to the numbers that were off the charts for the first 5 games. Even going back to the first Det game Cutler started to do a better job of avoiding the rush by moving to his right or stepping up in the pocket. Now he looks like he is throwing some of these passes with ease. On most of his bad throws it is truly bad mechanics (Back Foot) that contribute to them. He can't do anything about our WRs that have their head on the swivel while catching the ball. I'll go on record as saying that Earl Bennett should be the next extension that should get done this year.

I agree 100% and on defense our CBs were outstanding. The OL was also outstanding tonight and Lance Loius is starting to change my mind about him because he is playing RT like his life depends on it.

To all the media nay sayers and some of those posters who thought the Eagles were a team that would dominate the Bears, start coming up with your reasons why the Bears will lose to the Lions here next Sunday.
-
Their OC is Greg Roman who has been with Harbaugh at Stanford and has pro experience with a couple of other teams the Panthers,Texans and Ravens.I love how a lot of media talk about coaching trees but no one is talking about the Ditka or Buddy Ryan coaching trees.Fisher,Frazier,Singletary,Rivera,Harbauagh and the Ryans with Rob probably getting a HC job soon. The Bears of the Ditka era seemed to be more than just guys that got pay checks based on some of their successes after their playing days.Obviously most of these guys were influenced by the coaches they played under and it shows(ed) when they game planned.

As a young teen I had no one to look up to on the Bears offensee until Payton arrived in his rookie season, prior to that it was all Gayle Sayers all the time and after wanting to have Kermit Alexander beat down for making the tackle(legal) that ended our chances to make the playoffs in 68,I can honestly say that I have never felt the emotions I felt about a Bears player when I heard the news in a press conference with Jiggetts and North that Payton was suffering from liver cancer and was in need of a transplant.ind you this is after that wise ass Marc Giangreco on ABC7 had shown a clip of Payton looking slimmer than his playing days and making the comment"He looks like Gandhi.I Think I could take him". So when you see the NFL films clip that has Giangreco sobbing in it about Payton, that is why. IN MY MIND ITS BUTKUS ,SAYERS AND PAYTON .

To make thia work there would have to be a pick swap (3rd) in there and some cash to off set the contract and we are talking about two of the perrennial low balling franchises. Then there is the escalating of of Fitzgerald's bonus money if the CBA is like the previous deal. When a player is traded with deferred bonus money owed it would escalate to that season.I can't see the Cardinals doing that so that is why it wouldn't work.

If you got the opportunity to do it go for it. I'm positive you won't be the only Bear fan in the stadium and Raider fans are more about their team than anything else.I hope you go and have a great time.Plus after Flea helped us to victory in London maybe you can bring that karma to Oakland.
-
That I agree with. That is also why I was hoping the Broncos would have shown up against the Lions. For all those who were on blogs this week praising Tebow for what they thought he could do,I'm sure Crow doesn't taste to good on Monday. I also hope that he is still on the field when the Bears go to Denver. My post was based on the fact that it is still 9 games left. In the life of us Bear fans that can be an eternity. BTW: Some of the comments that the Lions players are saying every week makes me believe that they seem to be full of themselves and a good ass whuppin after the Eagles may send them on the downward spiral that I believe is coming. So the next 2 games are huge for the Bears.

The Pats may want to rethink the decision to cut Bodden loose after placing Dowling on IR leaving them with only 6 DBs on the roster.

You don't remember when he got his chance in Denver because of injury and tore it up similar to a lot of backs Denver has drafted as an after thought? That is how he actually got a decent FA deal with Cleveland. In Denver he didn't play the full season so his stats may not have registered but I believe his yards per carry made him a late fantasy pick up late that season. A lot of the hype about Hillis is fantasy based.
-
TT Hillis kind of followed the same path as Roger Craig( Nebraska) as a blocking back that got to the league and blossomed. He was at Arkansas with Felix Jones and Darren McFadden. This was similar to what was at Auburn when they had Ronnie Brown, Cadillac Anderson and Brandon Jacobs at the same time but Jacobs seeking playing time transferred to Southern Illinois.

My dumb arse takes a piece of paper and writes down the actual heading.LOL So no wonder I'm getting it wrong. I'm a computer Neanderthal.

In the Pompeii mailbag there is some interesting reading about how he is standing by his opinion about Cutler's leadership ability because he swore indirectly at Martz and in his listing of of QBs and coaching relationships he conveniently ommitted Ditka/McMahon. Parcells/Simms ,Jeff George/ June Jones,Harbaugh/Ditka and Rivers/Turner. I wonder what kind of relationship that Stabler and Madden had? You think snake and he didn't trade an F bomb or 2?

Thanks guys I must not be using the whole link or something. I will ask for help in the future when I find an article.

Some of what I have heard today is that Chris Harris admitted being in the doghouse a few times over the past couple of seasons. That I didn't know and we all know when safeties get in the doghouse with Lovie they don't stay with the team that long. Speculation is that once his play suffered on the field, that gave the team an opportunity to rid themselves of what they perceived as a "Clubhouse Lawyer".That is the similarity to Kruetz. It was common knowledge that all the players referred to the lockerroom as Olin's. It is clear that with some of the departures of veterans from this team over the past few years Ogunleye,Tommie Harris,Thomas Jones,Musin Mohammad,Kruetz and now Chris Harris that Lovie is trying to be the lockerroom leader and doesn't take to kindly to those who are taking to the airwaves or social media to express their personal views.
-
I'm not surprised since it is a bye week and Harris' recent play led to this.Though he is one of the most media friendly players on the team, his public demand for a trade just prior to the deadline tells me that he didn't want to be here. So now he is free to pursue a team he feels he can contribute on. Good luck Chris you had a good second run.

I wonder if Mike Mulligan knows what round Robert Gallery was drafted and what his drat position(#2 overall) he was drafted?

I suck at posting these links I'm sorry.
