B Bear why is it surpising that an almost 300 pound TE failed his physical after going through injuries during TC last season? He obviosly was in the same category as Todd Collins and should have been shown the door before the lockout. In the number of ways you can fail your physical IMO weight had to be one of the reasons.

More info on Shamumaleuna. Evidently he was due a 1 million dollar roster bonus and all the guys due roster bonuses showed up yesterday and he may have been told then that he was released but its not official until Saturday. This I just heard on ESPN Radio CHGO.
-
We were posting at the same time and I just read that on the Trib site.
-
The Trib is reporting than Manumaleuna is going to be released.

Ha Ha Ha. That is a good one TT. His injury plus the fact that he basically was a FB had me scratching my head all year. Why do we need to keep signing TEs in FA to be blockers when most of the good ones are UFAs that find their niche in the league because they can block. We all remember John Gilmore who we have been trying to replace since he was let go.
-
I like the thought of going after him but I still believe that someone like Sim-Walker will windup here.

Finley is better than any TE we have when he is healthy. So Forte is the only advantage the Bears have on O. Lets face it Martz is the reason the Bears don't feel they need a big WR and he has said that as recently as a couple of weeks ago. IMO the big receiver that we have seems to be on the trading block and that is Olsen. He was huge in the playoffs against Seattle and that is what I have a problem with this stafff. Signing Spaeth along with Sleasanhaus sending out an E-mail for all the world to see has dropped Olsen's value since it looks like the Bears are desperate to move him. There have been rumors before that Olsen is on the block but he seems to always stay with the club because there really isn't a big demand for his skill set.
-
I'm with you TT. I have yet to figure why Kreutz is considered a must have. I believe that Olsen being traded or the loss of Brad Maynard may have more of an impact than Kruetz being gone. Besides the kid they signed from Oregon State could be what they have been looking for.
-
Of those the Bears may go after Roy Wiliiams may be on their radar because of the connectionbetween Darryl Drake and Martz who worked with Williams for a year as his OC.
-
The rumor that has been circulating for a few weeks is that J Weeb may be switched to the blindside and that Carimi would start at RT.
-
Not to disagree with you but if any first year players I would be willing to say might make this roster it would be a defensive player or two besides the the two who have been mentioned(Linnekohl ? and Saz?????) Most of this is contingent on what is done via FA and that will determine who will stick because of the limited time being exposed to the staff. Don't be surprised if some of these guys are added to the PS when it is all said and done.

Rumor: Bears have agreed to terms with Brad Smith
lemonej replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
Because this is a copy-cat league the fact that teams are putting more passing friendly guys in their Wildcat formations is inevitable. Smith is not the end all be all but he is another asset the Bears can aqcuire that will keep Devin Hester's plate limited to returns and offensive plays. Hopefully, when I attend TC this year I won't see Hester lined up in WC formations. -
Mad L you always need to blow off steam and if we don't know that by now we haven't been paying attention. After all this BS that we went through since March I'm only sticking my foot in the water to see what is really going to happen before I have my Beargasm.

Rumor: Bears have agreed to terms with Brad Smith
lemonej replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
Brad Smith was the QB at Mizzou before Chase Daniels and has developed into a hybrid offensive/special teams player that IMO is not worthy of anything other than a minimal contract. The cap money could be better spent on some o-line comp/help. -
Martz interviewed recently claims that the O could be ready in one day if need be for HOF game.He bases his assessment on the fact that they don't really set up game plans for preseason games and it would be basically looking at personnel and correcting things execution-wise. This contradicts Devin Hester's comments saying it would take about a week and a half and is also contrary to the league and the player's associations sense of urgency to try and get a deal agreed upon by the Owner's meeting in Atlanta on July 21. Mike Martz's comments are one reason why some head coaches don't like assistants talking to the media. I still remember his Jay Cutler "Body Language" comments on the NFL network. Mike just coach the offens and figure a way to keep the QB on his feet for a change.
-
I'm just wondering if Martz who continues to say that height is not as important as guys who can change direction quickly may think of Olsen as his big receiver. When we look back over the years at the receivers he had with the Rams they weren't that big.( Bruce,Holt,Proehl and Akim.)

James Harrison is living proof that some athletes should never speak in public because of their penchant for "putting their foots in their mouths".
-
You think thi8s board is boring, go take a look on NFL.com and see the terrible look-alikes they have including Lovie and Greg Olsen most of the matchups are not that close IMO.
-
This doesn't just affect the Bears and Vikings. The Rams have held their TC at Western Ill. in Macomb Ill. so they would be in the same situation when students return. When guys like John Clayton are reporting this kind of crap instead of something on the negotiations like several owners meeting secretly in Chicago with Goddell its a slow news time.
-
I still Believe he has to like Cutler or else "Hit The Bricks" because of the Bears committment to Cutler and his comments were about Cutler's body language and seemed pretty biting.Since Lovie like to play the field position game Daniel Manning is the 4th most critical guy on the roster after Hester, Maynard and Gould. That means on kickoffs he is a force to be reckoned with. This can only mean IMO that Hester is going to be doing both PR an KR. BTW I like your picks 5 and 6 and really thought I had scouted out JA's patterrn of taking a rehab project player.
-
I support the pick but still don't like it because I too think they should have went elsewhere with the pick. With that being said the team's constant search for a John Lynch type is really annoying me. If Conte makes plays for this team I'll be a happy fan but I'll be interested to se what is happenning with the players who were taken after Conte. We all know this drill and have done it before.
-
I still believe that Martz is not comfortable with Hanie and if we can go back to when he was making comments about Cutler on NFL Network as an analyst he has excepted that he has to deal with Cutler but he may be able to have some influence on who is number 2. This is the second QB they have drafted with Martz in the fold and Enderle was personally worked out by Martz.

How do I view Mendehall's views? I believe that they are religiously based which makes any comments negative or positive about them a "Slippery Slope" and could open up a hot bead of issues that are totally unrelated to the Bears and this section of the board. I personally think he should have kept his comments to himself but realize that all that goes down in the military protecting are freedom allows young immature guys like Mendenhall to make stupid comments. This is the same sensitivity the White House is going through about releasing the photos of Bin Laden's corpse. I think this thread should be moved but this isn't going to be my call on this hot button issue.

Agreed and Duerson knew something was wrong with his brain, why else would he make that stipulation if he didn't believe something was wrong with his brain? What a lot of us who remember when Duerson was with the Giants is that he suffered a lot of his concussions with them and spent a lot of time trying to recover. I also reread my post and do realize that it may have seemed a little insensitive and for that I apologize if it was taken wrong. Duerson was one of my favorite Bears during his playing days and I was very ecstatic when he had products that showed on the shelves where I work. Knowing also that one of his companies held a contract with Mc Donalds for production of those pretty good breakfast sausage made me feel even better about him. I just believe that it was a foregone conclusion that he had a brain disease and didn't want that information to come out so soon after his tragic demise.

I still wonder if they are not going to bid adieu to Kruetz and plug either Garza or Edwin Williams in at center. My feelings on Kreutz are well known but there have been a few rumors that the Bears may try to move Chris Williams one more time to center which is absolutely insane but, they did think Todd Collins was better than Hanie when we all saw differently.
