  1. That is when they were Browns'fans you mean. The only reason why he is considered a genius still is because of his future HOF player still on the roster Brady and going by why he got the Browns job a real weird offer/job from the Jets is because the only 2 players his devastating defense produced is Lawrence Taylor and Harry Carson who should never have seen the HOF before Dent as well as Howie Long.
  2. Seeing him in the crowd at De Paul women's basketball games because his girl plays for them, had me wondering how hard he was working and when the PS games begin I will see where he is at conditioning-wise.
  3. So you understand that this is not about you and me but about us as fans 'cause I'm with you on a lot of things. Here is a story for both of those playoff years that you and me can relate to. In the 77 year I was a SR in HS and my best friend was a Cowboy fan. When Bob Thomas kicked the FG that put the Bears in the playoffs for the first time in my coherent life, he came over to watch me and my dad celebrate because none his brothers or his dad cared about football. so of course he watched Dallas beat the crap out of us during the playoffs and he tried to make excuses for why the Bears didn't win and me and my dad told him to go enjoy his victory at home. The 79 year I don't understand how our TV survived how much stuff was thrown at it when Brian Bashnaegel was called for illiegal motion on the play when Walter Payton broke off a run that got the Bears deep in Eagles terrritory. So in the years of the 77 and 79 playoffs I remember 2 Bear teams that were one and done. Because this was the first two teams in my life to ever actaually make the post season besides the Bulls I followed their fate to the end. BTW Anyone you want to give you some inf o abot those playoff teams would have to bee alive and then able to remember those times thats why I stated what year I was in HS in 77. So you know in 79 I was 2 years older.
  4. Thanks Mad L. So many times todays NFL GMs forget what is the deciding factor in all games and that is the trenches. Not who is available for FA on other teams but simply the trenches. Andy Reid for all its worth has garnered most of his success because he believes in constantly tweaking his lines(OL and DL). He also takes chances on some players making good on their personal pledge to give their all for one season. The Gm of the Bears is being criticized for giving a slanted tryout to a guy his OC swears will do some big things.I feel that if Bill Belelichek signed Roy Williams, Gholsten, and Okoye no one would question it. I do ask though when is the last time he won with the great Tom Brady?
  5. Out of all the so called young players the Bears are high on: Melton and Wooten are the two I metion with the guys at work as being some players on the rise Caution DA was a guy I said would makestride last season.
  6. Be Passionate, post your feelings and have a few laughs in the process of enjoying what we all should love talking football and about the Bears.None of the people who have administrator next to their names wants to censor anything that anyone says but, if some of the personal stuff continues we will be forced to in the beginning to edit a few posts ( whether its clean up the language or delete personal attacks) or take more drastic measures. Incidently I am not a fan of anything that reduces freedom of speech, but forums have the right to govern what is being transmitted on its site. I like eveyrone's posts whether I agree or not but I respond to the posts most frequently when the subject mattter doesn't become a personal conversation between two posters with very strong aand aggressive views toward each other. Why is all of this relavent to me? Its simple. The only reason why I found myself on the old site is because of the negative posts that took away from the discussion of the original topic on another site that was more of a national blog. All I'm asking is that when you post don't make it personal unless you play for the Bears or you work in management. If the latter is the case this definately is not the site for you.
  7. I'll chime in on this with you by saying this team had no fullback last year and basically the lead blocker was Manu or Olsen. The fact that they have 2 FBs on the roster now makes me feel good but it makes me wonder also if we are going to go tight on another position that we may need depth in like DB or LB.
  8. I miss Finks philosphy more than anything else. The teams he built in Minny ,Chgo and New Orleans all had success because of what he believed in upfront first and the team will be good for the long haul.
  9. Immediately 2 things on offense jump out at me and that is the TE position and the FB position. One of these don't exist in the past Martz offensive scheme. If they are going to keep a FB, we'll all have to rethink the configuration of the team. The FB last year was whatever TE or WR was lined up in the backfield.
  10. I agree Brandon Marshall was constantly in McDanials doghouse whether it was intentional or just a personality conflict. I believe he did the same thing that Cutler did and that was expeditite his exit from the coach and the team.
  11. OK I'll bite and don't get me wrong you are clearly entitled to disagree with what the Bears management does, I'm not on board with everything they do also but I don't attack someone if they don't agree with me I just try to clarify my point without taking someone to the proverbial "Woodshed". If you reread my post ther is nothing in it to suggest that you should "LOVE EM OR LEAVE EM". As a matter of fact I would prefer to know some of the thing that you actually like about this year's version of the Bears because the current negatives are all old news.
  12. I purposely responded to no one's post on this thread because it is getting more and more clear that a lot of us who are posting on this board are taking evey post just a little too personal. Come on people this is not world solving stuff we discuss here but a way to escape our daily grind and talk about something that is supposedly pleasing to all of us. I have to thank quite a few guys for reeling me in many post ago for wearing the Michael Jackson glitter glove when posting. Lets not make this a place to avoid by being negative to each other because we shouls all want the same thing a Super Bowl Champion.
  13. Lucky Lou the problem is that on this board we are mostly Bear fans and could care less what non Bear fans think about our history because THEY ARE NOT FANS OF THE BEARS. If you are aligning yourself with non-Bear fans what does that make you?
  14. I did this "tongue in cheek" to bring emphasis on how paranoid we have become as fans now in just a week plus of TC.
  15. balta obviously the people have not watched one of our veteran CBs slipping on several occassions through his tenure on this turf. And for those who have no idea what happens politically in Chicago, don't embarrass yourselves by speculatingI live in the burbs and have access to the Chi-town news media and still don't have a grasp of why things work the way they do in the city. IMO it seems finacially irresponsible to keep resodding a field over and over again when you have a(VENUE) that is used for more than just 20 days out of a calendar year. You host a big college game the Sat before the Bears play=poor field conditions. Numerous rock concerts throughout the Spring and Summer what does that do to the grass? HS football games also contribute to this facility not truly belong to the Bears but the Bears just being one of many with access to use of this field. I fault the Bears and the NFL for contributing to this when it is clear neither has control over the events and up keep of the field.
  16. This O-line debate has me thinking back to the days of when I first started following the Bears and the draft(yes they did have face masks lol) and my earliest memories date back to 1966 and with that being said the Bears have only had one GM since that time who was hell bent on developing the o-line. That was Jim Finks who was considered one of the best GMs in NFL history. Under his watch the Bears drafted 4 OTs number one(Lick, Albrecht,Van Horne and Covert) in a span of about 8 years. After he invested a number 4 overall pick in a little known RB out of Jackson State his first O-line looked like a rag tag bunch with at least 2 castoffs from the defunct World Football league,a FA from the CFL and 2 mid round picks. Anyone recognize these names Bob Newton,Noah Jackson, Dan Peiffer,Revie Sorey and Jeff Sevy? If that team had the exposure that the current team has, we would have been all over Finks. The staff and GM fell in love with the interior lineman Jackson ,Sorey and Peiffer( who battled knee problems constantly)and added 2 young OTs in Lick and Albrecht but, still they were never considered an elite group. This leads me up to the group he put together that I consider the best since I have been watching the Bears. After the Strike of 82 when the teams resumed the season Ditka decided to go wirh his rookie QB (1st rdr Jim McMahon) because of mediocre play from the veteran QBs ahead of him Vince Evans and Bob Avelini. The following season 83 he was considered the unquestioned starter and he lined up behind a line that looked like this: LT Rookie,LG Mid round draft pick,C undrafted FA,RG rookie converted from DL and a 3year vet at ROT. Once again this is another franchise pick lining up behind what looks to be an inexperienced bunch. That little known RB from Jackson State had a great season behind this group but the team still didn't make the playoffs going on 6yrs now. IMO that meant that this group needed some attention.Jim Finks was forced out and went to work for the Chicago Cubs So what does this dumb ass new GM do? He drafts 2 LBs one and two (Marshall and Rivera) and signs a draft pick(Thayer) who came back after signing with the rival USFL.So they add this other refugee to the starting OL and the QB doesn't finish the season due to injury and the team makes it to the NFL Championship game anyway because of a strong defense . So I know this GM will do something to protect the franchise QB in the draft. He does by drafting a big 300 pound DT out of Clemson,a DB,WR,a kicker in the 4th rd,DE,OT,RB,DT and LB.No help for the O-line,McMahon is gonna get killed. In TC our 300 lb DT collapses in a heap and our DC is all over him and the GM for not getting him a ist rd CB. The fans are predicting doom because this O-line of Covert,Thayer,Hilgenberg,Bortz and Van Horne was kept completely intack. What is Vanisi and Ditka doing? They suck. We were one game from the SB and we didn't improve an obvious weakness the O-line. 85 is going to be just like all the other years. Little did I know then that this group and terrible draftees that lost all but one of their preseason games would have one of the NFL's finest season's ever and have 4 of their terrible rookie class score in the SB. Butler,Perry,Phillips and Morrisey.
  17. Forte threatening to sit out the preseason games is kinda hilarious since he only had 12 carries last preseason.Last night he was interviewed live on the local NBC affiliate and he basically told Mike Adamle that questions about his contract and threatened sit out of preseason games were off limits. IMO I believe he realizes now that what he is saying about the situation is causing a bit of a distraction. I heard his quotes in one interview with Fox 32's Lou Cannellis where he said" That would be a consideration" when asked about possibly sitting out the games if no extention was signed by then. Before I heard that quote Cannellis teased the story as Forte threatens to sit out preseason games. Based on the actual quote Cannelis' comments were not accurate.
  18. Agreed and a lot of people have forgotten how in that SB year how teams were kicking alot balls out of bounds on kickoffs to keep it away from him. I also do believe that he is the only player to ever return the opening kick for a TD in SB history. I have always maintained that my childhood idol(Sayers) was the Bears' best ever but Hester is no slouch and is the one player on the Bears that we know teams game plan for.
  19. So far in most of the interviews he's done in the Chicago media,he has said all the right things and seems a lot different from my perception of him being an immature jerk. We'll see if that trend holds up.
  20. I put Detroit in the same category as SF and Houston. Each year they were both expected to make playoff runs but all 3 have had issues at QB whether it is health-wise or performance. With the news of LeShore being out for the season, Fairley having a surgical procedure on his foot and Stafford's injury history,I wouldn't be so quick to jump on their band wagon. As far as the national media's perception of the Bears until they can put back to back seasons together there will always be that skepticism. There is some of that same feeling on this board about this team and its staff.
  21. Nice story but we saw what he could or could not do and he was a 2nd rounder. I say good luck in the future because the Bears spent a lot of time rehabbing this guy for 3 year.

    Bears Tickets

Mad L JA and Lovie are not the Bears. They are the current targets of our rath. As long as you have been a fan you should boycott the ownership and not the coach. Now the GM is a different story because of his pick that he makes for this team.
  23. The other reason could be that the deadline to have this done may have been later than some of our postings.

    Giddy

Pour a couple of those cans from the 30 pack on those ribs before they are smoked then you and me will be on the same page. Welcome to the best Bears talk online.

    SANZENBACHER

TT of course with me chiming in now I may not quite understand your Ricky Proehl comment but if he turns out to be a player of thet caliber he can fit in this style of offense.
