they would both have to agree (this includes rivera as DC). if johnson is the man you CAN'T force any coaches on him or it's just the same ole same ole in chicago. you can give him the options if he takes the job and he makes the decisions.

you never know about carroll. he is basically out because of age but would be a GREAT short term choice here as assistant HC or if no johnson i take him as HC for the 3 year window. rivera would be a very good choice as DC especially if no carroll. has HC experience and certainly won't take any crap.

that's the dream team for me. johnson/rivera. if we are going for the experienced coach i have to take carroll. he is my second choice. 3 years to develop caleb and an OC to groom as the next HC. he should have his choice on who comes in to that position if they know he is in line for a team that is up and running. consistency across the board. people like and trust him. or... do we get another retread/experiment in mccarthy? if anyone here has scratched their heads with bizarre calls on 4th down get ready for some more with mccarthy.

every professional sport franchise in chicago is the same. incompetent. the bulls, sox, cubs. reihnsdork is as bad if not worse than mccaskey's. it dates back to the halas's/mccaskey's, wriggley, comiske to bidwell (the owner of the chicago cards). it's hard to comprehend. if you want the worst ownership, chicago is the place.

NO mccarthy. this guy is average at BEST. who couldn't win with HOF qb's? what is his record without favre and rogers? he's a blockhead. if they pick this guy from all the available coaches this franchise is toast for another decade. add to bad choices... arthur smith? as the falcons HC, he got fired from there after 3 years for a dismal record, and we are interviewing him with expectations of the same? do we really need flores a defensive coach overseeing our qb? really? thomas brown as our HC? you freaking kidding me? this is the crap that is typical of the bears. drag your feet with some demented interview agenda because you are too stupid to already know who you want, after how many weeks of an interim head coach, while the best get hired immediately by another team because that way they think they can save face by saying the best were already taken. not our fault. just more BS.

i agree with this statement that i have not read the rule books, but ignorance of what i have been watching for over 60 years is somewhat a stretch. it doesn't take a rule book decision to see during the SAME game that the flag thrown penalty was perpetrated NUMEROUS times and even WORSE and NOT flagged on both teams. that is a true statement as i have watched it happen. this is not a question of interpreting the rules/ruling and whether it is correct or not. it is a question of why and when the refs decide to throw the flag for the SAME offense or not. as i have stated, the rules are, or certainly appear to be, so ambiguous that nearly any call is supported by the rules and NOT wrong. the fact is they could call a holding penalty nearly on every single play if they chose to and not be wrong according to the rules. this is why the rules for the NFL need to be overhauled to make them more precise as to what actually is or is NOT a foul. many fans understand what they are watching right before their eyes (i know i do). if i see an offensive lineman with his arm around a defenders neck holding him back and not being flagged then at another junction in the game seeing the same type of instance being called a penalty what am i supposed to think? is it a holding call that is correct or is it not? as it turns out i believe they are BOTH correct. if he calls it the rules support it. if he doesn't the rules or norms for a holding penalty support that ALSO. that is what makes it a game that is truly controlled by the refs and NOT the players and the play on the field. the more obvious ones are roughing the passer. if you watched ANY games when cutler was qb (in fact most bear qb's) they allowed him/them to be beaten to a pulp while the darling qb's who got even breathed upon got the flag protecting them. that is bias when the same crew or official lets one qb take a beating and the other gets the protection as projected by the rules. i will give you a perfect example of this.... favre with the vikings (as much as i hated this guy) was literally mauled by the saints in a playoff game. it was so obvious that this was happening i couldn't believe it. even in the 60's or 70's when qb's could take a legal beating what they did to him in this game would have been flagged multiple times for roughing. yet nothing. they wanted the saints in the superbowl that year and that is what they got. explain that. well that i don't agree with. of COURSE fans understand the points of emphasis. you would have to be an idiot robot not to. the NFL relaxed the rule books to emphasize offensive scoring to keep the mindless drones from getting bored by a low scoring defensive game. all to boost ratings by collecting the stupid into their fan base for the purposes of making more MONEY. to do this they loosened the rules on holding calls, how OL's can lineup at the LOS, pass interference calls, the brady tuck rule, changed the out of bounds stopping the clock rule so they could get more commercials in and shorten the game on broadcast tv., blind side blocks, and many other instances. they also loosened the gambling parameters so now they freaking advertise gambling during the freaking games. why do you suppose this is? you mention bad calls getting overturned. even with booth review i have seen them getting it obviously wrong. add to this factor the PENALTIES are not reviewable. this is the key factor if you want to manipulate the scores and outcome of a game. at the very least the teams should have 2 red flags just to question bad or non existent penalties called/not called. this also leads to where in many games the flags fly against certain teams at critical junctions in the game. later the refs seem to make it seem unbiased by flagging the opponent who usual has the game in hand by this time. tell me how another official can overturn a fellow ref if the rules are not violated? this again goes hand in hand with rules without any real meaning or black and white rules. this leads inquiring minds to wondering are they shaving points or manipulating the actual outcome of games? they are not going outside of the rules per se' but the results are the same. it doesn't even take an entire crew to do this just the others not being able to call the ref on it because the rule is soft and not a hard one.

i have been asking that nearly all season. if we see that max pressure was going through braxton and now borom why isn't there a TE helping him block to give our qb more time? or even better yet change kramers status to TE rather than O lineman and have him swing to whatever side is getting williams killed to double team or pick up blitz's. our TE's are basically worthless in this system. they don't target them anyway. also in my opinion it was a mistake letting our FB go in blasingwhatever go.

i used to be a baseball fan. many, many games were on 44 WBBM (i believe) in the 70's. rhino bought the sox and took away all the over the air broadcasts of sox games and made them pay per view. the final straw was rhino keeping mcdowell and fisk out of a playoff locker room back in the 90's, telling them if they wanted in the stadium to buy a ticket. i haven't watched a baseball game since or bought any merchandise related to baseball either. college football: again greed shines through. locally televised games were pulled unless you subscribed to the big 10 network channel. now the local broadcast's are SEC, other out of the area big 10 teams and so on. i really enjoyed college football. i haven't watched a single game by choice in over 10 years. saves me hundreds of dollars a year on merchandise too. when it comes time to subscribe to a service to specifically watch the nfl i am finished with sports altogether.

the POINT is that nearly EVERY call they make is a legitimate call no matter what it is. how is it possible for them to overturn a legitimate call? it is the freaking TIMING and who that call is against that are the key factors. if they are NOT influencing games purposely why are the flags or non flags benefiting certain teams every single week? if they are truly that inconsistent and incompetent how could they keep their jobs? this boils down to the NFL collective yet again. they make the rules and have not even bothered to hire professional refs full time. WHY is that?

this is what they want. to make you pay and then pay some more. it's the end of an era. i will never buy a pay service to watch a sporting event that is/was broadcast locally. just makes you wonder how much the taxpayers are subsidizing the NFL collective. if so why should we let them be exempt from anything? also anyone wanting that $%&@@# BEZO's to buy the bears better hope that never happens.

now we are seeing where the greed of the NFL is starting to blossom. soon you will have to pay for most regular season games even if you are in the local viewing area on free tv, all the playoff games and eventually the superbowl also. as it stands, now you can give BEZOS from amazon your hard earned money. amazon now has an exclusive viewing not only regular season games but of a playoff game also. anyone have any email links to GODell or his cronies? they certainly don't have any comment area's or email links on the NFL's website that i have found. if you don't want to have this sport end up like they have done to baseball you better become serious about complaining to the advertisers and the money oriented NFL as a whole. this is the beginning of the end of NFL sports. they can kiss my arse if they think i will pay to watch. disgusting

ok, then why is there a HUGE discrepancy on who gets the calls and who doesn't get the favorable calls. it seems the darling teams get these calls at critical junctures in a game and that can't be just a coincidence as often as you see it. the same instances for the penalty/non-penalty happen throughout the game on both sides yet magically the flags fly when certain teams are moving the ball or in scoring position. as a fact, the rules are made so the refs can control the outcome. there is no good call and no bad call. the refs are ALWAYS right and that can be manipulated by the gambling cartels. it doesn't take the entire ref collective to be on the take to shape multiple games. i am not big on conspiracies without proven facts but when the obvious keeps slapping you in the face it is certainly a cause for concern that the nfl should investigate just to keep itself above the stench.

because belly took a job in college football. he could have been a coach in the NFL if he wanted it, but he didn't. he is ONE year younger than carroll. also as i have stated in the past, take away very good and HOF qb's and belly's record sucks. carroll worked with nothing and continued to have success up till his departure in EVERY category we WANT. offense good to great, defense good to great.

have you even read his stats i posted? show me where he is all that and a bag of chips. he inherited a playoff team. had a RB that basically carried the offensive load on his back. the offenses stats went down consistently for years in all aspects especially the passing game. his choices at decent OC's lasted a year there or not much more. he hired up through his coaching staff to fill the vacancy of OC. he freaking got FIRED after 2 years of dismal performance. so one year a push with him getting a playoff team to start and 50/50 in his following years ending in FAILURE. so just where is the consistency at offensive coordinator that a rookie/first year QB needs to be groomed/indoctrinated into becoming all that he can be in his future? how many OC's will williams go through? in chicago, just enough to fail. why does that seem like the perfect fit for the bears? because that is our MO. we are the smartest guy in the room and just KNOW we can do it better than everyone else (at least until we fail again and start the process all over).

i hear ya. age may be a factor. that said, he is 73. at that age he should have at least 3 years in his tank. that is enough time to groom williams. also consider this... at this point even coaches i dislike i will take if they can turn this franchise into a winner. he's been to 2 superbowls and won one. turned wilson into a very good qb. very good offensive lines in his tenure. even as an advisor in seattle they are in the playoffs this year. he knows offense and can put together very good defenses.
