What’s more compelling was that I thought part of the deal was for Gruden to get a stake in ownership too? And they may have purposefully bypassed the ‘Rooney rule’. Owner Mark Davis is cookoo for Chucky for sure.

And Harbaugh is paid roughly $9 million per year (last year anyhow) where the highest paid NFL coach (Carroll) is just north of $8 million. Yet Harbaugh is discussed as a potential HC not just on this ESPN article but elsewhere. No one knows what a person’s motivation is until they’re put in the spot. I agree with you though that if anything, Shaw would be an HC.

I know you’re reading comprehension is what it is so I’ll reiterate (that means re-say) my earlier post. Only I’ll slow down because well... you can’t read. My comment about Shaw wasn’t specifically about whether he would or should be an OC. Actually my whole post was based on hypotheticals (or fantasmic-like thinking). Granted it blurred the lines of my intent but bottom line I was/am in full support of Shaw as a member of the coaching staff for Chicago. I also would like to see Fangio stick around as DC. But to do that you might have to offer him more (like others here suggested) to be an asst. HC and/or more money should they hire someone like Shaw as HC. And thank you for FINALLY realizing Cutler is a “DUD”. Your continued support of him was simply sad. And Grizzly is spelled without an ‘e’.

I don’t know if he’s be better off as an OC or HC. I’d be ok with either one and presumably, should Fangio be convinced to stay, and should Shaw be offered the HC gig Vic would be ‘promoted’ to Asst. HC and given a raise. But of course this is all a HUGE hypothetical because so far we know Shaw had not been asked to interview by the Bears. Fangio has. As far as HC pay goes though; don’t think for a minute once Gruden is hired by the Raiders and offered a $10 million / year contract other HCs won’t take notice (potential and current). Negotiations for contract renewals and for new HCs will use that as a measure. Which in turn will affect assistant coaches etc.

And continuing the thought on Shaw; there’s a linear connection from Shaw to Harbaugh to Fangio. Where Shaw took over at Stanford from Harbaugh when he left for SF where Fangio was his DC. Perhaps they all know about one another’s abilities through that connection? And if Fangio weren’t chosen for HC (or even if he was) he’d put in a good word for Shaw(?) if not hire him as OC? I’d like to think a bright young offensive mind like Shaw paired with a grizzled vet for a DC like Fangio would really be a good combination for our team. Think Dick Lebeau with Mike Tomlin - the early years.

Harbaugh would be a cool hire BUT Shaw would be an absolute awesome hire. Can’t rememmber which network he’s on during the draft (ESPN?) but when he’s on there the players that know him absolutely love him. And when you listen to him its clear he knows what he’s talking about. He would be solid for our team and a perfect match with Fangio if they could convince him to stay.

I could see Fangio being like that. (Which personally I would prefer.). Think of it like having Gregg Popovich as our HC. That would be absolutely wonderful. Speaking of... When interviewed recently about being the 5th all time winning NBA Coach, Popovich said: "It doesn't mean anything, except that I've had good players, and I've coached for eons.". Seems odd that this site hasn’t acknowledged Urlacher being a finalist in HOF voting. Maybe he’d like to be HC?

I think you may have misunderstood what I meant by the word ‘nothing’. I agree he has done quite a bit. However, I question how well he’s done in all that he has done. My concern is he’s done NOTHING as of yet to strengthen my belief he deserved an extension (as you and I apparently agree with). I had seen some writers mention that as of right now Pace’s record (with the Bears) is the same as Fox’s. Which if you look at it that way puts an interesting perspective to the whole mess. So far the one solid thing I can give him positive credit for was the hiring of Fox. Although many are convinced he never really did that. Nevertheless, at the time hiring someone like Fox made a lot of sense. As you pointed out we had a team that was quickly heading in a downward spiral. A team, as you said, had older players some of which were “cancerous”. That was due in large part to Trestmans inability to manage those players. Fox had ‘been there, done that’ and was revered in the NFL community so that alone could be the reason the ‘locker room’ made its upward swing. Sure Pace brought in younger players through the draft but you need someone actually in the locker room to lead those players; young or old. And if there was any doubt in Fox’s ability it wasn’t in his ability to get people to play for him. Pace has brought in some good character FAs but still Fox would be the one who had to coach them and I’d dare say that some of those guys saw the opportunity to play for Fox and chose the Bears over other potential suitors for that reason.

Again, continuing your thought; how is it that a coach like Fox, who has been able to take two separate teams to the Super Bowl not be able to do the same with our team? I don’t buy that the game has passed him by. Hell, Fangio was consistently bringing top 10 defenses to play each year with arguabley the most inconsistent roster. Fox’s downfall this year (with hindsight as a crutch) was not firing Loggains and not starting Trubisky sooner. But really was that Fox’s fault? He wasn’t the one that signed off on Glennon. That was Paces call. I’m still guarded in my opinion in how well the team will do in the next few years. Pace has not done anything...yet...to allay that concern.

Have to agree with this scenario. Although, given the options, wouldn’t Nagy make more sense as OC due to he and Toubs current familiarity? Has DeFillipa worked with Reid at all? And please in all the is good; DONT hire McDaniels. Absolute POS.

All the more reason to save the roster spot for someone who can actually contribute.

I’d almost prefer they try and work a deal with Glennon. I’m not convinced he’s gone although I know he costs too much. At least he’s played in the current system; although yes more than likely be a new one next year. Maybe McCarron can be had on the cheap? Hell... anything is better that Sanchez. Sanchez has done diddly in the last few years. The best of him in recent history is 2014 when playing for the Eagles. That year he played 9 games and had 14 TDs and 11 INts to show for it. (He apparently didn’t play in ‘13). Since then he’s played in 6 games and has a combined 4 TDs and 6 INts to show for it. I’d just as soon sign back Cutler for that type productivity (ick). Sanchez is nothing more than a washed up advice giver. If you watch the clip provided you can even tell Trubisky is tiring of him. There is no need to pay him anything for no production and taking up a roster spot.

Saw that too and agree to the speculation of him trying out coaching first. And if it were a favorable situation. Only flaw in my theory is there is heavy speculation of Eli going to Jacksonville. I could see that with Coughlin in play.

Cam Newton, Randall Cunningham, Steve Young...I’m sure you’ll find consistency. I know you’re a proponent of Cutlers for whatever reason but he proved he could not make it in the NFL, not to the elite level. If we needed anymore validation it was evident at his last gasp effort with Miami. And that was with a coach sensitive to his limited skills. Brian Billick predicted correctly (IMHO) that Cutler and Jeff George had similar traits and similar “luck”. Either way, neither played to their potential. Bottom line, they failed.

According to Wikipedia (who pulled the info from the Denver Broncos website) while in High School and: “during his senior year, Cutler connected on 122 of 202 passes (60.4%) for 2,252 yards with 31 touchdowns, while rushing 65 times for 493 yards with 11 touchdowns.” Because I was curious; I randomly looked for a known rushing QB to see how he compares while also in HS. Michael Vick attended Warwick HS in New Port News VA where he started for three years and “passed for 4,846 yards with 43 touchdowns. He added 1,048 yards and 18 scores on the ground.” 1,048 yards over three years avearges out to just under 350 yard per year. And you’re still convinced Cutler wasn’t a rushing minded QB? And to further our discussion about WR futility; in their history the Bears have had only 15 times where receivers went over 1,000 yards. Four of those times were between Marshall and Jeffery in the years 2012-14. (One of those year’s was while Mike Tice was OC I might add). Yes it doesn’t help my argument about how well Cutler can play when he wants to but it shows that we can have decent WRs if chosen wisely. But where are Jeffery and Marshall now? Not playing for Chicago. Who was GM when both were let go? More importantly, what has he done to ‘help Trubisky’ as you’ve asked before?

Oh I get the levity of the situation. Which is why I can’t help but laugh at the suggestion to keep him. So you, and others, are ok with someone who is only providing verbal support and occupying a roster spot on a team that clearly needs all the people it can to contribute to winning? But actually play? How long are you wanting him on the sidelines doing impersonations for? 1 year, 2 years?

I’m with you. His resume speaks for itself. Pace’s? Not so much. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised that if Fox ends up in NY they are in the playoffs in short order. Their defense has a good number of playmakers on it (even though Apple is dubbed a “cancer” by Collins). And hey, Fox has worked with Eli’s big brother so there is that. Saw some rumors where Peyton is interested in coaching. Maybe he’d like to help little bro out and join Fox’s staff?

I know you’re convinced that Jay could not produce because he was forced to run all the time due to (in your opinion) poor Oline play. But I’ll remind you that he was a scrambler at Vanderbilt as he was when he went to Denver. And now in Miami, where he is less inclined to scramble, he still makes the same mistakes.
