Bears at Jets Week 12 Official Game Thread, Mid QB Bowl Siemian vs White, SUN 12PM, FOX, NYJ -4.5, O/U 39.5
This?? And some more feedback from Fields (a Twitter string). But a summary if you’re unable to access Twitter. Says he’ll play ‘unless he’s dead’ or potentially could worsen injury. Confirms conversation he had the other day apologizing to defense and was stopped by Eddie Jackson mid-sentence.

Fields compared to other QBs
Honestly, just this morning I was thinking I’d like to see how Siemien runs the offense…for a few reasons. He’s more a pocket passer who’s been around a few years. He’s not a horrible QB but if he’s able to do anything, mostly by passing, then that could tell us a bit more on whether the offense itself will be a success (should Getsy keep his job?). Can Getsy adapt to this style of play versus how you game call for Justin? But at the end of the day I still feel Justin is our guy. The second reason I want to see Siemien play is just to give Fields a much needed rest. As I said before he more than deserves it. Putting him back in too early will do more harm than good, both physically and mentally. Edit: and to help Poles make the decision on whether Fields is the ‘leader’ he is, there’s this:

Fields compared to other QBs
“Normal” Shoulder dislocation could heal up in six weeks (without surgery). Drew Brees dislocated his throwing side shoulder and tore his labrum in 2006 (while still with the Chargers). Had surgery and was back at it six weeks later. Some would say he had a pretty good career. The silver lining is that this was Justin’s non-throwing side and from what we so far know he hasn’t torn his labrum (like Mitch did a few years back). Torn labrums are no joke. Id say just rest him the rest of the year and don’t risk further injury.

Fields compared to other QBs
Agreed. Fields has more than proven himself. At this point his playing only hurts him more than helps. Heard in a presser today that Flus is saying ‘day to day’, but noted expert doc David Chao suggests he sit for awhile. And physical therapist Mason West agrees. * Edit: with the Jets ranking in the top-10 for defense and have a spot to play for, even better idea to sit Justin this week.

Bears at Falcons Official Game Thread, SUN, 11-20, 12PM CST, FOX, ATL -3, O/U 49
The more I think of it, this could be part of it. I also wonder if they’re trying to get him to run less and expand his play options. Seems they were heavy running early on with Montgomery and Ebner and less designed run plays for Justin. As the game wore on they seemed to want him to throw more (that and he was clearly getting tuckered out). I wonder with their record as it is they feel like looking more at the games as practice sessions for evaluating next year? The offense is scoring plenty of points. Defense just can’t seem to stop anyone right now.

Yep. Justin seemed to revert to holding the ball too long. Not sure that was him not seeing open men or result of play-calling.

Schofield is having a bad day all around.

Sucks that he did it against us. But happy for Patterson setting the record. Congrats Corradelle.

FWIW I think this is a mistake. Prove me wrong Pringle.

Roster stuff
Don’t forget N’Keal Harry and Riley Reiff! I think it’s kinda cool they’re finding these former 1st rounders at relatively low cost / low risk. At one time or another they were all predicted by the “experts” to be great NFL players.

Apparently Eberflus is tinkering with the idea of having newly acquired TE Sammie Reyes as a pass rusher. Curious to see how that works out.

A co-worker of mine, a huge Atlanta fan, guarantees a Bears win. 31-17. Says Mariota “isn’t it”. All they do it run, and not very well .

I saw somewhere else someone questioning the idea of sitting Harry over Pringle for this last game. Pringle has the edge in total yards (by one) but Harry has a TD and not any dropped passes that I recall(?). And Pringle just got back from IR. Hindsight being what it is, seems Harry should’ve gotten the nod. Then there’s this:

And almost an INT.

Is Poles getting too much credit/not enough blame?
Yes. Poles has cast away some serious debt in three of the highest (or potentially in the case of Smith) paid players on the team with Smith, Quinn and Mack. All players that Pace got us and for what? Poles has also stockpiled some draft picks of which could help us build a pretty strong team for years to come. Our team isn’t losing because of our offense isn’t able to score points but because our defense can’t stop the other team from doing it. Go figure when you have an UDFA starting in the place of an all star player in Smith and a couple of rookies. And having nearly 100 yards in penalties doesn’t help either. Give it time.

I still stand by my critique of Johnson. Got burned on a 44 yard gain while covering man-to-man.

Seems appropriate that Okudah was the one trying to catch Fields. FullSizeRender.MOV

Generally when a team gets 100 yards in penalties that’s a horrible omen. Not sure what to make of the fact this isn’t the Bears’ fault…completely.

I stand corrected on the second ‘hands to the face’. It wasn’t.

Remind me AGAIN how great Jaylon Johnson is. Two IDENTICAL penalties on the same drive! This is like watching Jemarcus Webb getting repeat holding calls.

While the Offense Evolves...
I give it a chance because of how well the team has adapted after their last mini-bye. Add in a real bye, Fields and the offense are improving (possible four top notch receivers available then; Mooney, Claypool, Harry and Pringle), and both games are back to back at home. Of the two I could actually see the Eagles losing to the Bears. Although Allen is recovering from an undisclosed injury to his throwing arm. Maybe they’re more susceptible? Heck, maybe the Bears beat them both?

Injuries of note. Jenkins is on it again. This time with a hip issue. And Johnson is back on the list as well.

So thought I’d put this here. What say you? I find it an intriguing take.

This could be a key re-addition to the defense once he’s deemed ready. He’s familiar with Eberflus’ defense (from Indy), has some speed (4.63 - 40yd vs Roquan’s 4.51) and likes to hit.
