Young players shining today also like Will Sutton and Eddie Royals play

Have they moved on from Fuller. I know he hasn't developed into a top tier corner like we had hoped but if he is a good 3rd to 4th corner, can play nickel or be moved to safety at least we aren't throwing away another draft pick. I hate it when I hear he's not their guy i.e. Pace/Fox didn't draft him that is a cop out. He was perceived as one of the better corners in hid draft and if the secondary becomes a strength when he's not playing and he isn't needed for depth but at this point the secondary is a weakness. Another thing I hate with the secondary is why do we always give a player a cushion to have a free release whereas the players covering our receivers play press coverage. Surely having to fight a player to get off the line of scrimmage breaks up the timing. I understand if the player gets beat it is an easy completion but this is the case with a free release. In the future to be successful i.e. like the legion of boom we need to be able to play press coverage so while we aren't going to be a successful team we might as well develop the players to play in a way that enables the defense to be in the top 10 in the league.

This is a good article and is what I have been seeing when rewatching the game on NFL gamepass in coaches mode which enables you to look closely a the blocking of the linemen. I understand that I don't know what the play being run is but I see the interior players giving ground as soon as the ball is snapped on run plays. The guards positions are where the money is spent and I would expect better. I am concerned about Long is his play due to his injury or poor technique or both. If it is the injury and this is the level he will be able to play at this year then as bad as Larsen might be would it be better to put him on IR instead of potentially causing a more serious injury. Regarding Sinton I suppose he needs a bit of time to bed in, learn the plays and develop an understanding but at the 4th game he should be ready to play. This game I feel is really important whether or not we lose. We need to see the interior play be graded as good to excellent for the team to have any confidence for the rest of the season and next year. I would like to see us run 60 to 65 percent and also bring in a guard and run from heavy sets and if White or Jeffrey are in single coverage throw them the ball. In obvious pass plays bring in Miller and Royal. Also if Paulsen's play doesn't improve I would look to cut him and use the most athletic backup lineman to play the 2nd tight end. I was happy with them moving on from Bennett because of the distraction he was causing but this has been clearly an oversight. I saw him whiff on a number of blocks at the end of last year which is probably down to him not getting his contract addressed in the off season but it looks to me that Paulsen is a liability at the moment.

What are your thoughts on the biggest disappoint this year. Mine is the offense and especially the offensive line. I understand the Cutler concerns and it depends on everyone's position i.e. Are you a Culter or a hater. My position is that I felt he has the physical tools and hoped he would gain the mental apptitude to play the position however his salary this year is guaranteed so if you can't trade him do you cut him and take the $16 million + cap hit. I wouldn't. Should we have drafted a QB in hindsight yes but the ones drafted this year could regress. In relation to the oline I feel this is the most important piece and could still change our season. We have committed draft picks recently i.e. Long, Grasu and Whitehair and felt that considering his reasonably above average performance that Leno Jnr was serviceable. We have invested a lot of money for instance contracts for Long, Sinton and Massie with the view that this should be our strength. On paper I think the oline should be better than last year but it has been shocking. Play calling from Logins hasn't helped but I have seen the dline of the Texans, Eagles and Cowboys far too often in our back field. Until this improves the play of the skill positions won't show us what they can be especially an evaluation of Kevin White who I feel has improved week to weak. If the line doesn't get there act together then we could end up having a 0-16 season and I feel we are currently the 32nd team in the NFL and will have the 1st pick in the draft. Or do we feel the defense has been the biggest reason for the appalling start to the season. We are definitely missing McPhee and you can't always plan in the draft and free agency for this because you already have money invested in the position and possibly hope someone will step up. Personally I have been concerned with our strength at NT which I believe was a strength in the draft. I would have liked more depth behind Goldman if you look at the good defense such as Houston they have a massive presence i.e. Vince Wilfork in the middle and with a player like that it makes the rest of the front seven stronger. If you negate runs up the middle you play to the strength of our defense i.e. Quicker at linebacker.. Or is it the secondary is the weakness have we not invested enough their. We have drafted players who are now getting a chance at concern and safety. There seems to be a concern regarding the concussions at this position. Are they tackling properly? Whatever happens this season I don't know if I want to see another sacking of the GM and head coach. If we knew what we knew now would we have still moved away from Angelo and Lovie because the last 4 years have been terrible to watch and for the charter franchise this is unacceptable..

Did McPhee get into it with Cutler on the sidelines?
50england50 replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
McPhee should keep is mouth shut. He isn't helping the situation by getting in Cutler's face especially on the sidelines and what is he able to do anyway. He needs to put all his energy into rehabbing to get fit and if he wants to make a positive input the best he could do is mentor Floyd. He should grab a tablet and go through each play when our offense is on the field and help Floyd understand the player he is facing weaknesses and what he can do to expose it. I have watched the game on NFL gamepass coaches mode. All of the players i.e. Oline, tight ends and backs are hot garbage in their blocking assignments we have paid big money to Sinton, Long and Massie, if I was one of them I would be embarrassed to collect my pay check. At the least Sinton, Long and Whitehair could do with spending as much time together as possible trying to build an understanding. In my view if we are strong in the middle at least we could play 1 back, 2 tight ends and 2 wide receivers as our base package with the tight ends helping out Massie and Leno jnr either in the run game or as a chip block prior to running their pass route. -
Need to figure out that stunt happened twice and 2 sacks. Pass rush straight up we have handled well Sitton and Whitehair need to recognise stunt and pass the player off. Come defence get the ball quickly and who knows

I just hope this is a case of Fox not showing the opponents the schemes the offence and defense are going to run this year because if this is not the case the talent on this roster seems to be getting worse year by year. I'm starting to think this is the worst roster in the NFL. Where is this change in attitude where we want to get younger, faster and nastier. All I can see is younger and inept. Both the oline and dlines look like boys playing against men. I can't take a single thing from this preseason and we may as well stayed in Burbonnaise doing 1 a day's and walk throughs.

Rolle is a dick. He had a massive contract last year and although it wasn't his fault he got hurt prior to the injury he looked like an old man. The front office waived him early so that he could find a team and he bitches about them. That is classless.

If you listen to the Bears podcast with Tom Thayer and Jim Miller leading up to the draft he had high praise for Leno and when callers called in talking about taking Ronnie Stanley although he liked the player he felt that Leno can develop into a top quality left tackle. Just because Leno was drafted high players can develop and although he struggled on the right side causing Long to play there I heard last year can't remember if it was hand strength or flexibility on one side of his body that he plays better on the left side of the line If Thayer feels he can play there being a top level oline player I would image he could see if a player had ability to play the position.

I will be really pissed if Kearse becomes a stud for the Vikings.
-
I didn't notice that Oakman was arrested 2 weeks before the draft whether he is innocent or not can't see the Bears taking a player with this type of incident hanging over him together with other previous incidents while in college.
-
How about Shawn Oakman in the 7th if he's available good size, speed and strength with a nasty disposition. Also liked the Vikings picking the German kid on NFL Network nice touch by the Vikings but seems the kid deserved being picked.
-
I think Kearse has intriguing size and has good family pedigree. Could match well with these big tight ends but looking at his highlights in 2015 could do with finishing off plays quicker which would increase ratio of tackles becoming tackles for a loss and also could produce fumbles.
-
If the typical 5 technique is 6 foot 5 and 300 lb I can't see currently on our roster who plays this. Can Goldman drop 30lb and be quicker, can Lamar Houston play this position but may be bit short. Mitch Unrein has this size but shouldn't start for us. Who is available in the draft because it doesn't like my wish is going to happen that we trade for Wilkerson.
-
What are your thoughts on Kearse. I have looked at him on You Tube and feel he is an athletic with good size who seemed to play better in 2014 than 2015 but may have been holding something back because he wanted to enter the NFL without an injury. His uncle is Javon Kearse and his cousin is Philip Buchanon so the pedigree is there. My only concern is although he gets into a good position he doesn't finish plays i.e. if the running back gets to the line of scrimmage and he is in the box he doesn't drive into the back to make a big play, he looks like he is holding back wanting to make sure the back doesn't break a big one but I suppose being a safety is you have to make sure that a player doesn't get past you.

Brady's suspension reinstated. The players collectively bargained Goodell to have these powers and I am glad that this decision was made. In my opinion whether or not I believed in the ball deflation argument Brady and the Patriots should have cooperated with the league. If my boss feels I have done something wrong and as requested something to aid the investigation then I know what would happen to me if I didn't provide. I felt Brady destroying his phone was sticking the finger up to the league and if you can't have discipline then it gives a free rein for the players to do what they choose

Other than another team coming in and offering the Jets more if I was Pace I would sit and make them sweat. They currently don't have enough cap space to sign their draft picks so they will be unable to sign Fitzpatrick and if they have injuries they won't be able to bring players in. If they want to keep Wilkerson then looking at their cap and the money spent on dline men if Wilkerson signs in hindsight they shouldn't have taken Leonard Williams in the draft which would probably mean he would be a bear. I know you need to draft best player available but not at the detriment of building a competitive squad. If we had kept Marshall last year with all of the other receivers who played last year I would have been pissed if Pace had drafted White. You can't over spend on areas of a team other than QB which you have to assign around $15 million for a starting caliber player.
-
I don't know if I'm fantisizing but the trade that fits the Jets cap and draft needs is as follows. The Bears and Jets swop their first round picks and the Jets take Paxton Lynch and we take the best corner available. The trade gives us Wilkerson who becomes the 5 technique player we are missing and we have the cap space to sign him to a long term deal. Looking at the 'over the cap' website the Jets cap space currently without signing Fitzpatrick is $3,338,547 and they need $4,849,579 to sign their draft picks. If we sign Wilkerson this frees up $15,701,000 to the Jets and their draft cap figure would increase by $715,599 because of having a higher first round pick meaning they would now need $5,565,178. If you add the cap relief of trading Wilkerson to the Jets current cap space and the take away the money need to sign the draft picks i.i. $15,701,000 + $3,388,547 - $5,565,178 this gives the Jets $13,474,369 to sign Fitzpatrick and have cap space going into the season to allow for injuries. Now can the Jets still be competitive while losing Wilkerson I think they can because they have 6 dline men signed i.e. Williams, Richardson, Jenkins, Catapano, McClendon and Simon already costing $13,224,582 and they could draft a dline men in the 2nd round who could contribute because this the the strength of this years draft. If they keep Wilkerson on his franchise tag this would mean $28,925,582 of their cap being spent on a position where normally only 3 or for 4 players depending on your defensive front can play at one time. I feel talent wise and economically this would be unrealistic. So the next conversation is what draft pick compensation is appropriate for a player of Wilkerson's age, talent and coming off a injury with a broken leg. The most recent trade where Chandler Jones went to the Cardinals was for a second round pick and Jonathan Cooper. Looking at Draftex's draft chart trade value the second pick was worth 300 points. Shopping the 11th for the 20th is a point difference of 400 points so there is a difference between these 2nd round draft picks of 100 points which is equivalent to the 2nd pick in the 4th round of the draft. Now looking at our recent trade with New England for Marty Bennett which was us swooping the 4th and 6th picks with a point difference of 39.6 then if Cooper and Bennet are comparable players we may need to give the Jets a pick of this value i.e. our 2nd pick in the 4th round. Therefore this means we could swap 1st round picks together with our 2nd pick in the 4th for Wilkerson, I think this is something the Jets would consider but what about Pace and Fox Do we get significantly better with Wilkerson, have we got cap space and does it strengthen our draft. I think the answers to all these questions are a YES!!!!!!!! Does the player fit Pace and Fox's player type, I think this is a yes, he is 26 coming into his peak with no character issues I am aware of. I think we should make the trade but there is a worry that a team like San Fran could out bid us for Wilkerson what are your thoughts.
-
I agree way too much especially guaranteed. We have a big need at cornerback but I would have not wanted Pace to try too match that. Maybe we can still swop firsts with Jets for Wilkerson but that is all offer the Jets.
-
Do we sign Norman or Wilkerson. These are 2 massive areas of need and obviously this is dependent on the Jets wanting a trade partner. We could bring Norman in to put pressure on the Jets to make the trade or sign Norman and hopefully Buckner drops to 11th or we look to trade up. Do we have enough cap space to sign both Norman and Wilkerson, and with the other signings in free agency would this be a. Total turnaround in the ranking of our defense.

I went corner back, defensive tackle and safety. Can Porter play a couple of years if not we have one decent corner which is Fuller who seriously needs to improve. I suppose you could consider Callahan but if we took the best corner then we wouldn't have to throw McMannis at nickel. If we take DT which is the strength of the draft in the second we could have a player that could either play a 3 technique in a 4 man front or play 5 technique in a 3 man front. Possibly Vernon Butler but I wouldn't be opposed to trading back into the first say for Denver's pick and giving them our 4th And 5th. In the 3rd the safety I like is Jayron Kearse who I think played last season trying to conserve his body and be healthy for the draft which I don't blame him considering if he had a career threatening injury he could miss out on life changing money. I like his size and speed and alongside Amos he could be special. His size and speed could match up well with tight ends.
-
I would take best player availability and hoping it is a trade with the Jets for Wilkerson and their 20th pick in the 1st for our 11th. We sign him to a long term deal and also draft the best corner available which means we strengthen our 2 biggest needs in one go i.e. Cover corner and 5 technique DE.

Here is my all buddy Clemson/Alabama/Notre Dame draft. Because it is so difficult to make an NFL roster going to training camp with someone you know could make the transition easier and I was looking for 3 players from each team. Unsure if Smith gets to the 72nd pick though. Round 1 11th pick Mckenzie Alexander CB Round 2 43rd pick Jarren Reed DT Round 3 72nd pick Jaylon Smith OLB Round 4 106th pick Jayron Kearse SS Round 4 127th pick Sheldon Day DT Round 5 150th pick Kenyan Drake RD/KR Round 6 185th pick D J Pettway OLD/DE Round 6 206th pick B J Goodson OLB Round 7 230th pick Chris Brown WR

I always wanted Shea to do well at every position he played but watching him last year my biggest criticism was he seemed unable to deliver a telling blow. When he was in position to make a tackle the running back/tight end/wide receiver always increased there yard after contact stat. I never show him drive someone backwards which is the sign of a good defensive player. Regarding the Bears wanting him back the telling sign was 2 inside linebackers were signed before Shea. If the coaches felt he was good enough to start he would have been signed after signing Trevethan. Hope the best for him but wouldn't be surprised if cut by Patriots after this season.
