Forgot to mention, I didnt see Pace making this move. So I am kind of shocked but understand it. The Bears need 3-4 DE's badly. This guy can play the position and fill a need, opening the draft up even more. BPA may be coming to the Bears sooner than later!! At least for the first round.

After Ray Rice, AP and Hardy got suspended for an entire year I think you will see the NFL players walking the straight and narrow from now on. Old Roger caught some heat and laid down the hammer this past year. Ray Rice may never play again, no one has signed him yet, maybe he will catch on but it doesnt look good. McDonald was never charged. Im sure something happened but not as bad as one would think and thats why no charges were ever made. DA's want to make a name for themselves and would throw the book at him if they could. McDonald has had his two strikes so to say, if he screws up again I doubt he will ever get another shot. If the guy even looks a line that shouldnt be crossed Im sure he will be on a short leash. With the Bears roster having so many holes it forces the Bears to take a couple of chances here and there. This chance is being taken on a guy that Fangio worked closely with. I would much rather the Bears take a chance on this guy being that Fangio knows him rather then a guy that no one has any first hand knowledge about. If Fangio thought McDonald was an idiot and not worth a shot the Bears wouldn't be signing him.

I read it as our 7th round and 5th round.....not our 7th pick....my bad
-
Bears give their 5th and 7th Bears get Cameron, 13th pick and 3rd pick????? That doesnt sound right

http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2015/...ook/#30617101=0 I think with Cutler here for at least this year and maybe next year this guy could be a perfect fit.

Shelton or Oline wouldn't be a Nightmare. I am leaning towards one of the OLB. I don't think we are set at the position and its noted as being a very important position in Fangio's D. Vic Beasley would be great. Im more excited about this draft than years past due to Pace and the switch to 3-4. Emery's drafts never wowed me. Each draft the 1st round picks I had to google each guy. 1. SMC - didn't like it 2. Long- was like who the freak? Then read about him and thought OK 3. Fuller- knew of him but didn't like it until I read that some people thought he was the best CB in the draft. Granted Emery never had a number 7 pick. I hope Pace WOW's us!

What position can make all the other positions better on Offense? My answer is Oline. Can it be said for Defense? I think so. Pace has to try to rebuild this depleted roster while trying to win asap. The NFL waits for no one nowadays. Long Term success is what Pace is looking for, building the Oline and Dline would be smart. Will he draft an OLineman or Dlineman with the 7th pick, who knows. I personally would like to see the 7th pick be the BPA no matter what position they play. Then 2nd - 7th be BPA with concerns to need playing a factor. If Pace thinks Cooper is the next great WR and he is there at 7, I would not be mad. I know there are a ton of holes but the Bears need some GAME CHANGERS no matter what the position is.

I thought I read that Fox wanted to run the ball more in Denver. Gase with Manning I expect more passes. Gase with cutler I expect more runs. Having Manning and the weapons he had in Denver allows you to do things a whole different then with Cutler and company.

Emery = he wanted to show the team there was a new sheriff in town and 54 was the example he chose to show everyone. It back fired in Emery's face and had a negative impact on Trestman. Trestman fought an uphill battle with trying to get the team to buy in from the get go. The offense bought in but the vets tied to Lovie did not ie. Briggs.

I saw the Meme and laughed my ass off. It only proves that he did look at pictures....He actually showed some emotion, which I like. Maybe not the best emotion but some emotion is better than no emotion. As for producing compared to leadership. I posted this just to show that some guys have backed that Jay is a leader. A lot of people bitch about Jay's contract and point to production and leadership qualities. We all know his production needs to be better, really only on the INT's. This post was to point out he may be a leader just not the leader type we are used to seeing. As for production, I agree with you: he has crumbled when the pressure is on more times then not. He had a stretch were he was called 4th quarter Jay but that was short lived. For this coming year my biggest hopes for Cutler and Gase is that they: 1. run the ball to set up the pass, better run to pass ratio 2. design plays to utilize Cutlers mobility better (roll outs) 3. Oline provides better pass blocking If they are able to do these 3 things I think we will see less turnovers INT's and Fumbles. If Gase can get 3,000 to 3,500 yards with 25 -30 TD while limting the INT's to 10-12 Gase will be a HC somewhere the following year.

To go along with what you are saying about having sustained a terrible one. My friend that had the worst one I have ever seen happened junior year of HS, he was never the same after that one. It happened on Kickoff, he was running full speed as was the blocker, they ran into each other full speed and my friend didn't know what universe he was in. After that he got them repeatedly and from lighter hits. Hits that would normally not affect someone would give him a concussion. Not sure how better helmet technology can help I think the only way is to eliminate hits to the head as said earlier.

I hear ya, at this point we (guys that like him and guys that hate) are stuck with him for at least one more year. His leadership or lack there of has been debated a lot. I agree with the guys that dislike Cutler for the way carries himself in a poor manner on game day in front of the cameras. I do not agree that he doesn't go over pictures or plays on the sidelines, they don't show it on TV but he does review things on the sidelines No one knows what type of leader he is as we are not in game film breakdown meetings, practices, huddles on game day. The only thing we can see is the way he carries himself in front of the camera. I am glad to see two players coming out and backing Cutler as a leader. I will say I don't think Emery and Trestman are stupid enough to give him all that money if they didn't see Cutler being a leader. If Cutler was walking around Halas hall being the Jerk (jerkface) and not being a team guy would they have given him the butt load of money they did?

I totally get the concern of head trauma. I played High school and division 1 football. I personally never had a concussion. I do have one friend that had many concussions. He definitely has seen damage. He had one of the worst concussions I have ever seen and after that he got them more frequently. Through high school and college he had more then 15, probably more than 20 as he started to hide them. Concussions were not a big topic when I played, not that it was that long ago comparatively speaking, I played high school until 96 and college till 2001. Out of all my teammates he is the only one to suffer damage, long term damage is still too early to talk about. I actually said that it may be time to hang up the cleats his sophomore year in college. He chose not to. If you look at the total number of football players what is the percentage of players that actually see some type of negative affects? From my personal experience it has not been many, only one(still to early to detect long term). I spoke with my younger brother, he played HS and college as well, he had the same experience only a few guys had repeated concussions. Not having done any large amount of research on this topic, I think the biggest thing is when there is a player that gets repeated concussions its time to consider quitting. I know a lot of the research has been about the affects of concussions, has there been research on repeated blows to the head and its affects. I never had a concussion but defiantly had repeated blows to the head.

Thanks for the info. I know my former teammate who now coaches varsity football (DC) teaches the Rugby method of tackling. As he describes the hit zone as "nuts and guts" nothing lower and nothing higher. His team is know for being one of the best tackling teams in the Chicago land area.

No one has mentioned it on here so I thought I would bring it up. Eddie Royal commented after signing with the Bears that Cutler recruited him to come to the Bears. One example of him being a leader, Derrick Rose has refused to recruit which I think is stupid. He also said something along the lines that Cutler was a good leader in Denver. Christian Jones said something along the lines that Kyle Long and Jay Cutler were the two guys that first came to him after signing with the Bears as an undrafted free agent. I cant remember exactly what he said but it had something to do with him being a leader. I know Cutler does not have the body language and the actions on the sidelines that you would want to see out of your QB but may be Cutler does have some leadership qualities.

I ran into my high school Football coach the other day. We talked about a lot of things related to high school football. The biggest topic was concussions and how its affected the high school game. Their enrollment for freshman football is down, when I was a freshman we had 125 kids come out. They are now down to 60 to 70. My schools total enrollment is way higher than when I attended. Its only going to get worse. He said the big thing is the mothers are not allowing their kids to play football. I had read that 1% of high school football players earn a division scholarship and 1% of them make it to the NFL. Will the NFL ever see a negative affect from less kids playing football?? I don't know. Ill tell you one thing, I have thought about selling my PSL's for the Bears before the its too late.

I agree with you, Im alos more excited about having a real leader as our HC (lovie was a great leader) and having a great OC and DC. Im really excited about Fangio runnning the D and Gas running the O.
-
I think it had more to do with his off field baggage and locker room distractions. Im not happy to see him go but hope this turns out to be the right move.
-
Yeah, Im leaning that way to. But longer term I dont see Young, Allen or Houston being here. after this year. You could even throw SMC in there. If there is a game changer at OLB at 7 the Bears should or could take him. If they think Shelton is going to be a game changer than it makes sense.

OLB: 91 Bass, David DE 6-4 256 24 = smaller DE that could can out at OLB 99 Houston, Lamarr DE 6-3 300 27 =I think if he could play DE in the 3/4 as well as OLB in the 3/4 50 McClellin, Shea LB 6-3 245 25 = OLB- hoping he actually pans out at a true OLB in the 3/4 as that is where he played in college 92 McPhee, Pernell LB 6-3 280 26 = they have already said they are going to move him around all over the place DT/ NT 98 Dunn, Brandon DT 6-2 300 22 = dont really know anything about him 95 Ferguson, Ego DT 6-2 309 23 90 Ratliff, Jeremiah DT 6-4 303 33 = old, how many more years does he have left 93 Sutton, Will DT 6-0 315 23 LBer 57 Bostic, Jonathan LB 6-1 246 23 = inside LB 48 Brown, Jonathan LB 6-1 230 22 52 Greene, Khaseem LB 6-1 241 26 = inside LB 59 Jones, Christian LB 6-3 240 24 = some have said he could play OLB, im not sure where he fits 96 Lattimore, DeDe LB 6-1 237 24 DE for 4-3 looks, passing downs 69 Allen, Jared DE 6-6 270 32 = I dont think he wants to play the 5 tech, i would put him at OLB but he really is a true DE in a 4/3 97 Young, Willie DE 6-4 251 29 = prolly will be an OLB, dont see him playing the 5 at 250 Not sure where to put them: 73 Lane, Austen DE 6-6 265 27 60 Merrell, Jamil DE 6-4 252 24 Would love to hear where you guys think some of these guys will play. I dont see Jared Allen or Willie Young being here after this year. We will see about Lamar Houston as well. With changing to a 3/4 for our base package it really opens up a lot of holes at both DL position. Be it the NT or DE. With the draft if Vic Beasley is there at 7 I would love drafting him, if the Bears can get the next best pass rushing OLB at 7 they have to for the long term. The Passing OLB is said to be the most important position in Vic Fangio's scheme. Looking at what they have on the roster I would think DL would be more of a NEED at this point.

They resigned him because that is who they targeted as Cutlers back up. They came out and stated Cutler is the starter moving fwd. Cutler is the starter.

How many Ducks are in the draft this year?
-
Was it JA or Lovie that got these guys

What he said was correct the last three years the defense was terrible. He could have worded his comment better. The Jets upgraded their D, they should have a pretty good d with the FA additions and Todd Bowles coaching. Lets see how much he likes playing with Geno Smith....... Cant wait to hear what he says about that guy
