The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!
Stinger226 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
You never know how things turn out but , I would say top 10 pick is realistic. If a QB emerges, two first round picks could move you up. We have to keep in mind we are 2 years into a rebuild, this is the year we see the results staring to take over the team. A rookie QB would set back his plan on every year draft wealth , to continue infinity. Just being a little more patient and everything will start to show itself to be winning every year. -

The two most influential picks this year that will put us in the position to win is a DL and a weapon. Correct points.

Good points, Poles has to win this year, which option puts him in a better position to win? A rookie is more likely to have Bryce Young year than Stroud . I think that is counter productive. -

What I find interesting is you have no idea if any of these QBs are top tier QBs and yet you keep pushing to draft one. At least follow the process before you claim a generational QB exists. That would be more realistic. -

Great points, only a few # 1 picks QBs on that list. Some. # 1s were not great QBs, Eli and Matt Ryan to point. -

Of course drafting Brady (6 th round) or a Mahomes ( third QB in draft year) is worth it. They are rare and many more misses than wins picking high. Trevor Lawrence was rated as a can't miss prospect. Last year he had 4016 yards, 7.1 per attempt 21 TDs, 14 int. 88.5 rating. That's good not great. He finished 11 in the league. Last year Fields had 16 TDs, 7 int with a 86.3 rating with missing 4 games. The point being , with more talent and better coaching he can easily be Lawrence type numbers. Neither are generational types. -

What was refreshing to hear was Peter King stating he knows nothing. Most writers claim to have a source, he was being honest. Poles lets no info out, so anyone saying anything is speculation. A bunch of podcasts are now saying, because of Peter King, that trading is possible . It's always been an option. Getting these many prospects will set this franchise up for years to come. They can become NE, where when people have to get paid, you can move on to the new guys. It's a forever cycle once you get it started. With three 1s next you can keep gathering future picks. The option of adding many first and second round picks eliminates missing on the first pick and losing your job. It will enhance winning for the next few years. -
We're getting two quality players, any combination makes us better.

When you rebuild a team, you need players at every position. He takes the BPA and fills needs at the same time. He follows his board. He has a plan. You can do both.

Seems realistic also. Lots of dreaming with mock drafts, be some are more real than others. -
After QB what are the most important positions? You can look at what their paid. Not in any order LT, WR, Edge and CB. We don't need a CB, so those are the positions that will be drafted top 10. People like Bowers or a Jaylon Carter type pop up once in a while but not the norm. After QB, which players would have the most impact right away? Figure in our needs and it's probably edge or WR. Bowers and Newton could be considered. I think our LT is good enough to not consider in a top 10 pick. Poles is a OL guru ( self clamied) so it could be a LT, if he thinks Braxton can play somewhere else.

Just click on ( watch on YouTube)_ to see video. If you love Caleb Williams, best not to watch it. -
Turner, Newton, and Robinson + Nubin. Oh dear ,I pity anyone playing against out defense.

If Jones is the worst player on the line with Waldron playing 2 TEs more frequently, they can slide him help. We will have a pretty good line. Poles first year he went after Brandon Allen and Joe Noteboom, and Ryan Bates. He struck out on all of them but Noteboom and Allen ended up being hurt that year anyways. Last year he brought in Wright and Davis. Wright went thru growing pains as a rookie and Davis mother was sick and died. He played well above average previous years but his mom's death got in his head and was bad. Jenkins isn't going to be healthy for 17 games and Whitehair dropped off big time. Patrick just isn't very good. This year he will target the OL and good depth. There will be another OT brought in to push Braxton or at least add good depth. Probably thru the draft. With Jenkins not finishing seasons, he will add a high level draftee that can start. I totally believe Davis will be ready to go , last year was an outlier. I believe he will draft a OC and bring in a high level free agent that can play both OC-OG. That's 4 or maybe 5 new bodies. He's supposed to be a OL guru, and he won't let the line fail again.

I think when the media constantly hammers the subject , everyone he knows keeps asking him , it gets old. I think he was confident he was coming back with the actions of Poles and Flus but the press creates doubts in his head. Caleb talent as a passer, is elite but what will determine whether Poles drafts him is yet to show up. The interview, if shorter than expected, as things come out. Not having an agent is a red flag, the talk of not wanting to come here, wanting to have a piece of a team, super ego or confidence? The top pick in any draft has to be a no miss or people lose their jobs. Example, Carolina -
The two most important aspects of the combine are the personal interviews and the medicals. If smaller than sold will eliminate a few teams. For Poles that interview will decide everything. Pay attention to his words once that's done. There's no advantage for him committing to a draft pick or keeping Fields. The more other teams have to guess the more the price goes up but there should be signs.

I was a plumber my whole life and there were a few women that broke into the trade. They were babied when it come to the physical work ( I did it to) and always given easy tasks. Only one I could say I ever showed a true respect for, but took years to gain that respect. The others always took advantage of the male population trying to get close to them.

Went back and listen to the podcast again and it was 4=57 mi!. Sounds much better. Also , OTC has him valued at 10.3 mil. Which is usually close to real value. He is rated the best available center, definitely Poles will target him or a surprise name.

I've always thought that but with the cap going up at high rates over the next few years, I can see him paying an extra 3 to 4 mil and be done with it. -
Here's a list of top free agents from the Athletic. Lots of Ss, Centers and TEs,edges. A few thoughts, who falls in the money range that Poles would sign a FA. Will Poles go with a 3 year 57 mil for Cusenberry? That is what I seen suggested for his contract. I doubt it Second choice: Tyler Biadasz. Young , strong, probably be around 10 mil a year. WR, I think Curtis Samuel makes the most sense, friends with DJ, adds speed won't be expensive. TE: Fant should come with reasonable money. Has ties to Waldron. Still has upside. S: I think Winfield and McKinney will be to expensive, so more likely types like Julian Blackmon ( played for Flus before) and a Geno Stone. Led Ss in interceptions this year. DEs: lots of high paid ones this year. I think he looks more 2 nd tier types. AJ Epensa or Josh Uche. Both played limited snaps and had decent stats. Kind of like the Walker signing. An outlier would pay a Clowney a one year 12 mil deal? He made 2.5 last year I'll predict DE , AJ Espensa FS Julian Blackmon C Biadasz TE Fant WR Samuel https://theathletic.com/5280918/2024/02/19/free-agency-rankings-nfl-best-available?source=user-shared-article

Getsy always scripted the first 12 plays and did well but him adapting in game was terrible. To his credit, he's never called plays before so he's learning too. I also like he has experience with success. Getsy would never take blame for anything, and I'm sure that caused a disconnect with Justin.
