Actually I looked back at 2023 preseason rating on college QBs and Michael Pratt from Tulane was rated high. He's the 8 th rated QB on draft buzz website after the season. The analysis on him is with development, a Kirk Cousins type, not great but potential starter. I think there's a Brock Purdy type in this draft, no one knows which one it is? Jordon Travis Michael Pratt Spencer Rattler Joe Milton Killa, I'm listening?( I watched around 20 college games this year)

The Bears hired Jennifer King as the assistant RB coach. Been in the NFL a few times working for Ron Rivera at Carolina and last year at Washington. I joke but it's nice women at least get chances at becoming serious football coaches. Note: not a former player.

I would normally agree with you but no matter what Poles does this year, he has to win or his job is in jeopardy. Williams isn't a large man, 6' 1" 211. With his hero mentality, I could see him having a lot of injuries in his career. If he goes down for the season, are they going to trust Bagent?
-
IF we draft Caleb Williams, odds are the Bears bring in a veteran backup QB. Bagent was okay in 4 games but Getsy babied him with 250 WR screens in those games. All quick throw routes so he didn't have to hold the ball to long. I think they bring in a vet to backup Williams, so who? Here's a article giving the top 10 FA QBs. I think it will be Drew Lock who played under Waldron in Seattle last year. The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!

Today Justin Fields was on the St Brown brothers podcast on The 33rd Team group. It will be released tomorrow on YouTube. It's an Apple podcast so I suspect if you are on Apple you can watch it today, I am not. He tells why he unfollowed the Bears on Instagram. Anyone on Apple? -

Seems like a pretty smart guy, former college QB, been doing draft coverage since 2019 and is now at ESPN. Another former player ( not NFL ) with another opinion to throw into the mix. Never heard of him before, but will start following. I like to follow former QBs for advice, Chase Daniels, The Football Scout, Dan Orlovsky, Tim Jenkins, and now Jordan Reid, all worth listening to. -

New high for you, 20 top 100 picks. How high can you go?
-
I would think this would be more prevalent in discussing than a beaten up draft a QB drama. So does anyone know if we can resign our own free agents before the official period starts? If so: Justin Jones ( had a good year) Mercedes Lewis ( great blocker) Josh Blackwell ( great STer and competent backup) I think if we bring back anyone else, it's late in the free agency period after we didn't fill a spot. Is there any rostered players that improve enough this year to fill a need? Has Elijah Hicks improved enough to take over for EJAC? What about Quindell Johnson?
-
That's your best draft. The first 4 picks are studs.
-
And a QB prospect too.
-
17 in the top 100 would put us in the SB in the next two years. I hate looking at stuff like this because I'm such a dreamer. I would take 7-8 top 100 picks.
-
And big, better for us if he did drop some spots that would be easier for us to get. Teams boards are much different that so called experts boards. The ones I pay attention to the most are former scout. Ourlads, GBN draft report and NFL draft countdown.

Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
Stinger226 replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
If we address our needs , OC and another guard will be addressed before we get to another OT prospect. I think Davis plays better this year, moms dying will screw with anyone's head but we need another for depth and WHEN Jenkins is hurt again. Then a swing tackle that could take Braxtons spot if he regress. This is a reason as well as other needs that he may load up on draft picks instead of keeping the # 1 pick. If Poles could trade 3 times with his first two picks, he would have enough capital to fill all our needs and have a huge 2025 draft in the future. I think he would have enough draft capital next year to address a QB if he chooses to do that. Potential for next year of 3 first round picks and 3 or 4 second round picks if he does those trades. I think in his rebuild process, next year makes more sense to get a QB with 2 reasonable years of Fields money left right now. -

If Fields plays well in 24 and 25, he will sign him to a new contract before they get there. If we make a SB run in 2025, he could use it as a one year and out with a QB prospect already on the team. Just a option but projecting that far in the future is so unrealistic at this stage when we don't even know if he's still here. -

Agree with that, there's 2 edges taken after that pick, centers still available, higher rated TEs. -
I think Legette is going to be one of the top 5 WRs out of this class. Irving is the type of back we don't have . All our needs would be met in this draft, so the question is what starters are we picking up in free agency?

IMO keeping Fields and getting a draft haul is more desirable than a 50/50 potential bust at # 1. I think we can still draft a QB with a lower pick and still satisfy both sided of the fence. All options could turn out well or bust , it's about the risks that Poles takes to win this year. -

Stinger226 replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
The 5th year option is 23 mil , two years of Justin cost 15.5 mil a year, is cheap for a starting QB in the League. Technically you could tag him for a third year at below market cost. Next year I expect us to a be winning team, would that happen if we draft Williams? Rarely do rookies have the Stroud year, somewhere between Young and Stroud. Williams was thrown into the ( generational ring) because of his great junior year. This year he regressed from that tag but had a good college year. So did MT, Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, point being, it's about how they translate to the NFL. Williams is not guaranteed, so is Justin getting better this year, not either but Poles knows what he has with Justin who is being paid 8.3 mil this year. No matter where he takes a QB , he has Justin one more year. Williams is a character issue away being being Jalen Carter of which Poles passed on. No matter what your opinion of QBs , Poles will decide who gives him the best chance to win. -

Nice story, Williams has a high ceiling for a QB prospect and in Evan's eyes he can't miss. Is he a former scout? Curious of his background. Nevermind, I seen his bio, college senior at NCC. -

The scenario is some team is about to make Poles a famous man in the GM world with two years of huge paydays that keeps the cycle going a few more years. That would probably mean he's rolling one more year with Justin or taking a QB not in the first few picks. Huge decision will be coming down in April, any of his choices has risks, I will suspect whatever he thinks gives him the best chance to win in his opinion. -

If Fields was set to make big money, this wouldn't even be a conversation but he's two years away from getting offered 40 plus million. -

PFF keeps track of pressure rates, he was second only behind Geno Smith this year. First in 2022. A pressure is when a QB has less than 2.2 seconds to throw in dropping back . Here's a video from Swifty that has a nerdy guy on that breaks down statistics. -

Stinger226 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
That video gives insight into how well he does with competent WRs compared to lesser talent. The key is drop rate. Moore and Kmet were less than, 02%,_the rest were below league average. Plus add in his loss of confidence when throwing to them. Facts changes narratives but people ignore them unless it states something they want to hear. -

Listening to a lot of podcasts today and the same media that condemn Justin, turns around and are saying that they think we can get a first if we trade him. Does that make sense to anybody? He's good enough to get a one but he can't stay here.
