The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!
Stinger226 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
Listening to a lot of podcasts today and the same media that condemn Justin, turns around and are saying that they think we can get a first if we trade him. Does that make sense to anybody? He's good enough to get a one but he can't stay here. -

As we travel down the road will get to see what holes he plugs in FAgency. Then it will be more obvious what he will do in the draft. If he drafts Williams and Odunze , we will have no second round pick, limits improving the OL and edge. Now if he trades Fields for a second that could get us a DE or center/guard. If he trades down easily fills all our needs and still could get us a QB to develop. It's never just one or the other, both are in play. Very incredibly few months. -

If we don't see the OL and weapons improve, Williams will more likely have a Bryce Young season than Stroud. We all said the OL is playing better that was more run blocking than pass blocking. The free agent period is very important and will lend to clues in the draft. The defense is almost done, one more DL performer and we're top 5. We need to add a top OC, maybe get lucky and draft Johnson but also a vet that can play both Center and Guard. Add at least a swing T with potential to start and another potential guard starter from the draft. Jenkins has constant injury issues and Davis should be back to normal this year but he will only be here one more year. Depth is also important. Then another weapon early in the draft. -

Seen where last year, Fields was second in the league with pressure rate. 2022 he was first. No QB is going play well with constant pressure. I think this year he finally finishes building the OL, gets us one more weapon and a edge. That will be his theme this off-season. -

That's fair, both sides view their argument bigger. Truth is it's very divided. -

Heard Dave Wannsted on the SCORE and he suggested Tyrek Stevenson play the FS spot and slide Terrell Smith into the other CB spot. Backups Jaylon Jones and Blackwell play well in spot starts. Worth thinking about. If they can get a competent vet FS at a reasonable price, you won't need to do that. -

Correct, having Brady allowed them to do that. -
How could all of those holding calls not get called? I get there not calling everyone but that's absurd in such an important game.

If I remember correctly didn't NE, always keep moving back in the draft and got multiple picks in 2, 3, and 4th rounds and when someone earned a big contract, would trade him and keep the cycle going forward with lots of picks? I think Poles is in the position to do the same with multi high picks in the future. A team can handle several players with big contracts but can't handle lots. EJAC is a perfect example that should have been moved on from instead of paying big money to. His best years were before he was paid. He may view a better value at taking a JJ McCarthy later in the first round by moving back from picks one and nine. Load up and allow McCarthy to develop a year or two. Poles passed on Carter because of character issues, he nay choose to move on from Williams for similar reasons. The medical and personal interviews are huge for Williams getting drafted at one, it's the key to this complete off-season. -

Actually there is no consensus, you need to read more . Majority is not the same as 100%. As far as Justin he has a lot of flaws but sucked is a term you use for Nathan Peterman, you're bias is showing. -

Agree with all of that. Last year everyone thought we would take Carter when he fell to nine, yet he took a OL building block because of character questions on Carter. The same thing could happen this year if Williams has some issues. Poles thinks he can win with Justin over a QB prospect that needs to be developed , so option 3 may be into play. We get to see the free agency period in a few weeks so the QB question will get put to rest for awhile, thank -

Near perfect draft which people have to realize this could happen if we trade picks. Something you bring up is a viable future option, Bagent development into a Purdy type QB. The only negative is I think we should draft a QB every year to fed a pipeline for a potential starter one day. A WR room with Wilson, Moore, Nabors, and McConkey would lift any QB in the League. With that draft you have 2 number ones , 3 number twos next year. The pipeline just keeps going on and on.

The echo chamber is so move on from Justin, people like us that would be okay if he came back get drowned out. I see positives with every choice Poles makes. If it's take Williams, I fully expect Poles to vent him to make sure he won't fail. For me it's the assuming that Williams is great without all the venting getting done. If he is, I'll be first in line to cheer the move. Just not there yet. As far as other QBs not sure any have great written all over them but may develop into stars. That's where the option of keep Fields and draft a prospect to develop and change when the time comes to do that. The only rookie QB that played great in the last few years, Stroud, that's not the norm. Now if someone gives a first rounder for Justin that changes the option. Most GMs think two or lower but if someone gets dumb, Poles will have to take the option. People that condemn Justin and then turn around and think he deserves a first round pick for him confuses me. I think he succeeds whether here or somewhere else but if Williams is that star it won't matter. -
Seen her at the Chicago Stadium and I didn't go for her music. 15,000 Hispanic women dressed to kill, that's an awesome idea.
-
Doesn't this drastically bring our overall age of the team down now to be the youngest team in the League?
-
The ball is starting to roll. Anyone see anyone else cut? Can you resign your own free agents early? Or do you have to wait until the FA period starts?
-
Teams that make the SB usually have great OLs , there are always exceptions but OLs help the QB and the running game.
-
Poles have always stated he is building thru the draft, being year 3 of that rebuild he's still building, more bodies will build for long term rather than one QB with questions. It's all about the evaluation process. Great QB will be the pick, if there's one in the draft.
-
Some teams get more help from referees than others. KC is one of them. How many times did Justin get hit and no calls and other QBs got calls if the DL looked at them wrong. Not sure any of that is changeable.

One of Fields flaws is holding the ball to long. Caleb does the same thing. Seen a video of his passing zones break down and the majority of his throws are short zones. No problem getting them out quickly there but when he has deep routes , same as Justin. A lot of Justin's flaws are Caleb's flaws.
