The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!
Stinger226 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
Agree with all of that. -
I understand the context now, im only supposed to say things you agree with. I like the way you say ( c'mon man) instead of I disagree. Can you give me the list of proper opinions to have on here. Apparently I have to have perfect English, perfect descriptions, perfect opinions or people give me shit. Deal with it.

Never heard that , maybe the coaching staff gets him more involved this year. It's his speed that is the attraction.
-
Not sure what you're trying to read into his comments. So laidback means he's thinks he's a bad coach? No one asked him to break down his coaching skills. Take it for face value, everything doesn't have secret meanings. Other videos he has given avid support for Flus, it's just what he thinks. Him liking him doesn't mean he's a good or bad coach , that will be judge by his success this year.

He watched every game he ever played in college and I trust his opinion. Great potential with some flaws. -
Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
Stinger226 replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
I think it is clear that Poles never lets information out, no one has figured what he did the last two years and aren't going to know until he makes his choices. A lot of people say they have inside information, totally don't believe it. It's all projections from their opinions. We can give our opinion or what we think he might do. At this stage, it's all guessing on what I think he's going to do. As for now I think he trades the first pick, keeps Fields, and drafts a QB. Where he drafts that is anyone's guess. It Williams excels, that could change but the process will dictate that. -
Any drafted players future is just projection, some have many reasons that you think that but it's one to two years to know the truth. We are a world now where you have to have instant success or you are considered a bust or a poor choice. Gordon and Brisker took some hits their first year but are looked to be future stars now. There will be some good QBs in this draft we just don't know which ones that will be. Hopefully Poles figures it out. Last year Nate Davis came here with a very good player tag but with his mother dying it totally screwed his season. I think he comes back with a better state of mind and will excel. Nothing is set in stone in football, every year can be different. After two years it's easy to see V Jones is a bust. In the same picture, Tyler Scott didn't impress anyone but I think will take a big step forward this year.

He was called out for taking some plays off in the playoffs, not sure how that translates everyday but it's not a good trait.
-
So as long as a play is called, players don't get credit for making great plays. I'm not sure what I was thinking. Every QB in the league would have made those plays, im just not paying attention.
-
The key to any trade will be a second round pick and a first the next year. Getting a trending upscale player would be great but we got lucky getting DJ Moore, GMs will be skeptical to get taken advantage of with a good player. It's probably more draft picks as the cost goes up.
-
People look at teams and rate them according to statistics usually. Stats place us there but if you're paying attention we are trending up. We are better than some teams ahead of us but until we consistently win, national media won't have a great view. I totally believe we will have a winning season next year no matter who the QB is. With that we will move closer to the top ten. If we win a playoff game, easily will be up there. That's why GB and Houston are where they are. I like being an underdog.

I give my opinions, I'm not saying other players won't be good, but an exceptional star in the league will be MHJ. People are referring to a generational QB, that's what I'm comparing to. Easy to make general comments so you're never wrong but I say what I think. -

The only for sure pick in this draft is MHJ , and we have a chance to get him. Odds of a generational QB in this years draft aren't great, only one has that tag and Williams has questions that need to be answered before he gets that crown. Several have a chance to be good but Mahomes? -
Chase Young is not a hard worker, and has had some injury issues. He flashes sometimes but not worth giving a lot of money to.
-
Mahomes is an exceptional passer but if you look at the plays, it was hero ball plays that got him first downs on those 4 th downs. He can do both which is why he's so great.
-
This is Jenkins last year so I think he definitely brings in another guard because of his injury history. He is a pro bowl type when he plays but has injuries every year. As people has mentioned before, Samuel probably doesn't have a big payday coming as a slot WR, it would be nice to add him to the WR room. I still he might bring back Mooney on a minimum contract. If he still plays bad, we can cut him for better depth.
-
He may like another QB better than Williams which allows him to trade back and still grab himself a QB of the future. If it's not Maye or Williams, he can load up and still get his guy. His deep dive on prospects if different than what we get to see. I still think his option 3 is in play with drafting a QB and keeping Fields one more year and let the prospect sit for a year. If he can get a couple of # 1s in trades, he will not need the top pick to get a good QB next year if that's what he goes with. He will have 3 firsts, 3 or 4 number twos possible with trade backs. What a fascinating year to be a Bear fan .
-
Yes but not 20+ mil club. I think we are one year away from adding that one player that takes us over the top. I think if he's drafting a rookie QB, that sets his plan back at least a year. Odds of a Stroud season are slim. More Bryce Young seasons happen with rookies. The best QB in the league started fast after sitting for a year. That contributed to him being good right away. Question: if we get the best OC in free agency, do we draft a center with a high pick? I think he finds a center and FS in free agency, he can find quality at a reasonable price. He will leave his top picks for a QB, DL and weapons. As for now he has 2 first rounders and no second. In the third ,pick 75, , he will add a quality player but not instant starter. He needs some more top 100 picks to fill all our major needs . 2 =4 th rounders and a fifth He will acquire more picks, one and nine trades could add 4 more top 100 picks, don't ignore that as a viable option. NE use to trade down and get extra picks all the time.
-
You're right Brady or Mahomes, the trick is to find him. TO's had the most effect on the games outcome but they happened and the better QB sealed the deal.
-
I didn't say he deserves anymore time to show anything, there's several options and Poles will do what's best, whether it's popular or not. With Mahomes winning his third SB in 4 years, a top QB seems the most logical choice but dismissing his other options will put you in the same space when most were saying Flus was gone. That didn't happen. I hope Williams or Maye are one of the golden boys and our franchise takes a giant leap forward but none of that been proven quite yet. Let's let the process play out first.
-
I'm not saying they can't do it, I'm saying that's how he controls the cap and isn't going to. After a winning season, next will be the year, he's adds that piece to get us to the SB run he will expect. He brought in DJ Moore, Sweat this year that get paid big money . Will tag JJ, that's 3 big contracts in one year. Paid Edmunds. No way he's adding another big contract. IMO
-
How many videos do you want me to post of people saying we should keep Fields? There's a ton of them out there. Everyone has an opinion, that doesn't prove we should or shouldn't keep him. Two things will determine who we draft or keep. It's the QBs evaluations and what kind an offer they get for #1 pick. When it over , Poles may think JJ McCarthy has the best future and have him sit for a year. All kinds of reporters suggest they know what Poles is going to do. From the last two years we got to see, no information leaks from Hallas Hall. I would say Poles, Warren and Ian Cunningham are in on the decision with Flus getting to add his opinion. Last year instead of taking Carter he opted for protecting the QB over character issues of Carter. They both look like a great future. His year, his two first picks were DBs, unexpected. He will surprise us again this year.
-
Other than JJ, Poles isn't paying a big contract to anyone. He will add 2nd tier players, Edwards, Billings types . He can bring in a OC and FS for under 10 mil contracts. I think he brings back J. Jones at DT.

The OL is key for any good offense. We need a top flight center, another guard when Jenkins gets hurt AGAIN, and a swing OT.
