Read an article today about why our cap was lower than expected. Some of the players they had , had incentive clauses that came due at the end of the season. Rielly got a 4.5 mil bonus. Plus they signed 11 future contract that is a little under 10 mil

Did they say what he cost? Wilson deal didn't leave a lot of draft capital.

We can't fix everything in one season, I think he intends on fixing the OL and DL. I don't think his higher end contracts will be anywhere else. We have a lot of potential in the defensive backfield, so he will not bring in a CB with a big spend. Same for TE or WR. We need to upgrade these spots but what he can't fill in FAgency, he will address in the draft. I guess RT, DT and OC will be the first he brings in. I think he brings in DE but not on a big contract. I see him drafting two because its the strength of the draft.

I can see us get a DT and OT in free agency, then hammer edge early in draft. When I look at DTs in college, I look at production. If you got a DT with lots of tackles, that makes a statement to me . Nazi had 44 tackles but not much in wow plays, because he is going to be a NT not a 3 T. Gervon Dexter had 55 tackles, that's a lot for a DT, but is like5th best DT, I would think he would be rated higher.

I personally think Poles is very smart with the draft. Turned 5 into 11 and got 5 starters out of the deal. I can't wait to see what he does with this draft.
-
Him or Mazi Smith is a large man that can be got in the second or 3 rd round. The problem that Washington has, they have 2 good DEs they have to sign back next year. I've never seen a team pay top dollar for all 4 of the DL. They would have a ton of cap space in 4 players.
-
First round picks have a 50% fail rate. Not so much that some don't make it as a starter but failed because of the high value they were picked. The gold ring in this draft is Anderson. ( IMO) but if we get 4 or 5 extra picks, I wouldn't have a problem with Murphy, Wilson or Bresee at the bottom of the top 10 picks.

Yes and yes, that's exactly what is going to happen.

I like seeing journalists do the complete off-season make over of the Bears , not just a mock draft. A lot of them have us sign a DeRon Payne and then draft Carter. Essentially two 3Ts. Poles will base a draft around what he does in free agency. Lets say he resigned Monty, and then some people would take a RB at 53, that's not going to happen. He will be addressing the DL and a OL around what he does in free agency. He ain't talking a RB with one of his first 3 picks regardless of whether he brings back Monty. I think DL, OL and then WR, in that order.

If Fields was coming out this year, he would be the top prospect anyway. Very few short QBs make it in the NFL or end up hurt early in their career. Fields has traits that's not easy to find, he works hard to be the best, he loves football, and is a natural team leader. Those types succeed 95% of the time. If Young was the same size as Justin, we may be having a different conversation but he's not.
-
We all assume everyone will move up for QBs but if Carter and Anderson is all of that, someone could move for them. Best scenario is move to #2 then to # 4. Then someone wants to move ahead of Seattle for the last QB. Raiders, Detroit, Carolina. Stay top 10 and draft T Wilson.
-
I think Poles may want more draft capital than getting a high paid older player in a trade down deal. Payne is only 26, so he is entering his prime years. Buckner will be 29 next year. He can buy Payne and draft his choice of the next Buckner. Plus they are both 3 Ts.
-
The possibility exists that both Anderson and Carter are blue chip plus players. Also Wilson and Murphy aren't far behind. I think any of a number of scenarios can all turn out well for us. If you can get a couple extra top 100 picks and get any of those players, its a win.
-
There are a ton of mocks on this subject. The one that sounds the most logical is Houston trades # 2- A second rounder and a first next year. That seems steep but there is other teams bidding for that spot that makes it cost more. Then with one QB gone, it makes # 2 more valuable .

If Poles can replace him with a younger player at about the same cost, he may go for it, so the line can grow together with the young guys. Patrick had a bad year but probably shouldn't count him out quite yet, he had something going for him for Poles to get him to begin with. Poles set it up to cut him for 500 k dead money if he didn't work out. But I suspect he brings guys in to compete and picks he best 5.
-
That's good news, if he works hard, he will end up an All Pro.
-
We will have to slightly over pay to get a few targeted players Poles goes after but we have the money to do that. Payne will be lots of teams target so we will have to bid to get him. Poles will have a plan B if Payne falls through.
-
If we can get Anderson or Carter and move back a few slots, it's a win win. A 4th pick, and 2 second rounds picks, we will have a Edge, DT and WR. Lots of people have us picking LBers, CBs, and RBs with our high picks. All you have to do is listen to Poles speak. He's going to attack both lines first, as he should. Even at a BPA scenario, the strength of the draft are where we need to pick. Other than 2 OTs, the majority of OTs fall to middle rounds. Poles will find a player there.

Anderson had 10 sacks last year and17 TFL. I just seen someone post he had 65 pressures to go along with those numbers. That's an amazing stat.
-
Like that draft 3 OL and 3 DL

I have been thinking Anderson all the way but , I read somewhere that there are only a few blue chip DTs but several edge players. You take Carter and could still get a Tuipukitu or Anudike-Uzormah with the second pick. Someone brought up Taliban Kancey as an option. Highly productive but at 6'and 280 is awful small. Aaron McDonald is very rare.
-
I read where he was averaging. 2.5 pressures per game the first half of the season and In the second half, 1 pressure a game. He got better.
-
I've watched Wright from Tennessee play several times and would be a perfect RT. I think he would start day one. May be able to get him in the second round.,
-
I think (Poles) either keeps Monty or drafts a mid round RB( maybe both). Several good ones in free agency but thinks he spends the big contracts in the trenches.
