I'm not sure I had this optimism with Pace and when Nagy came here. Pace always talked a good draft but constantly giving up draft picks to move up. Also never addressed OL as much as he should have. Said he was drafting a QB every year and didn't do it . Whether it works out or not, I like the way he's doing it even though I wanted offense early and often. Not paying out big contracts, taking possible ascending players. Seems old school but like it that way.

If we end up getting Ogunjobi back the only spot left to fill is SAM LB spot. Could already be on roster. UDFA Jack Sanborn . Led a Badger team in tackles. Solid player. This definitely would be a better D than last year, even thou Hicks and Mack were on team, injuries affected their play.

Monty is a good football player, not a star but a blue collar fight every step of the way player. They will offer him a team friendly deal, if he moves on, Herbert and Ebner are better fits in this offense anyway.
-
I like your take on the prospects and will say about Jones, he is limited as a WR as far as route tree but giving him 10 to 12 touches a game will show big on film. Jet sweeps and screens. The go route, slants , and catching swing passes , he will kill people. As soon as they see his speed and have to give him room, you have him do curls all day. Why he would be good for Fields, other the go route, those are all quick passes, Fields doesn't need to think about them just 3 steps and throw. Flus was excited to get him, they targeted him, they have a plan for him. Just watch some Deebo Samuel tape, it will show you how their going to use him.
-
I love Monty, fights for every yard, can catch the ball well. I've been watching tape on Tristan Ebner and he's got game. If people got hurt , would have no problem him being our #1 for a few games. He can play, reminds me of T. Cohen on his skat type running. They say he is 4.42 40 guy but looks faster on film. He could beat out Evans as the third back. On film all he does is run away from people.

30% of NFL rosters last year were UDFAs. I think we keep 53 players and 12 on the practice squad. So 30% of 65 is 18 UDFAs. Ill start and add as I look at tape. For arguments sake I'll say 12 do. Players that make the roster: Chase Allen/TE Jack Sanborn/ LB

The more you read and look at film of these draftees, the more you like Brisker and Gordon. In the last two years, combined, only gave up one TD on pass plays and no penalties. Leaders on their teams and big hitters. Besides being day one starters, could be pro bowl types. I hated not taking offensive players but those were good picks. I think they find a role for Jones similar to Deebo. Deebo's first year, had 57 catches, 802 yards and 3 TDs. Also ran for159 yards and 3 TDs. I can see similar numbers. He has been KRer of the year in two different conferences, Pac12 and SEC. A big IF, they use him right, could have a big impact on offense. Another player I watched on film was Elijah Hicks, A SS out of Cal, has got game to. Kramer, Thomas, and Braxton Jones all could eventually be starters. The punter could end up taking that job, and Robinson has a ton of potential. Ebner could make the roster this year as as KRer and specialty player out of the backfield. A excellent receiver with4.42 speed. This could turn out to be a foundation builder for the bears at the start of the Justin Fields era.

I seen a post on Twitter showing a new S we have, thought it was Brisker until I noticed the uniforms. Eligah Hicks has some game.

I agree with that. I think Poles assessment after the draft will cause him to get Duane Brown and move Borom to RG. I find it very hard this team will be as bad as last year. If you changed no personal, better coaching and play calling is a net positive. Fields will improve. Better Def, more TOs, ( Flus did that every where he coached), the defense is a Ogunjobi away from being very good. The WR will grade out better than it looks on paper.
-
I could do a negative post and list all the potential pitfalls but that's not me. I am hoping for Ogunjobi to come back, odds aren't in my favor, so if not, definitely a weakness. Edwards and Karama can back up Jones but not sure what you get. .Free agency is pretty thin for 3Ts, maybe Nick Williams, he had 7 sacks as a backup when with us. Maybe a UDFA surprises us. I think after the draft Poles will evaluate the OL and bring a vet in if he needs to. My love for Carter comes from the regional scouts opinion on Carter, based on nothing else.i do wholeheartedly believe Jones becomes a playmaker for us, watch a ton tape on him.

I'll put this here, love this pick.

Sanborn led one of the better Ds in the NCAA in tackles. A Kwit type of LBer. The SAM is only on the field 30% of the time in the Flus defense, maybe a surprise and starts.
-
I wrote this without including any thoughts on UDFAs . They have added 35 so far. There has to be a few surprises in that group that will be added to the roster.
-
He was a WR that converted to RB, could be a Tarik Cohen type pass catcher with 4.42 speed, same as Cohen.

I like what Poles has done. Stuck to BPA ( good teams do that) , not what I wanted but what's best. He hasn't bogged the team down with high priced contracts like Pace did. Traded Mack for cap relief. Mack hasn't been Mack for a few years, so that was a good decision. He has rebuilt the roster but I think with the possibility of winning this year. DEFENSE: This defense will be better than last year. Our first two picks should start and I think they bring Ogunjobi back. DE: Q Mohammed- Quinn-Gipson-Snowden- Robinson. ( with Mack hurt) better than last yr. DT: Ogunjobi?-Jones-Edwards- Tonga-Blackson (Hicks was hurt , Goldman sucked) better LB:Smith Morrow- Adams-Calieb Johnson- Mack Snowden. ( may still bring in FA at SAM) more speed, A push because Ogletree was good. CB: Johnson- Gordon-Young--Graham- Vidor-Stroman. Definitely better S: AJAC-Brisker-Cruikshank-HCD definitely better With the new coaching staff, the added speed and change in scheme, I think this will a 10-12th ranked defense with an uptick in TOs. OFFENSE: The key is Fields improvement this year. I think with the new coaching staff , better play calling, it looks totally different. QB: Fields-- Sieman. Fields will look like a different QB, better play calling, better use of talent RB: Montgomery--Herbert's Evans --Blasingame. strongest group on team, adding a FB much better. WR:Mooney--Pringle--Jones Jr-- St Brown--David Moore--Newsome. IMO much better (AROB was bad) IMO Jones JR is the surprise of camp,( Deebo Samuel Clone )and Pringle will be good TE:Kmet--O'Shannessy--Griffin-Horsted. I think Kmet takes a step forward and Hosted gets a shot Better OT: Jenkins Borom--Davenport--Jones This is still a question mark but I think Jenkins is the real deal. Jones could surprise OG : Whitehair--Dozier--Thomas--Carter--Eiselen still a question mark. IMO JaTyre Carter ends up being a surprise and starts. OC: Patrick--Mustifer--Kramer. much better. ST: Santos--Gill Trenton-- Winslow KR: Jones--Ebner I think with better play calling, Fields takes a step, better coaching, Jenkins shines, Jones JR surprise playmaker, and Kmet and Hosted step up, we have an offense that can score points. Change my mind

The Robinson/ DE selection ( ton of upside) is almost identical to Charlie Snowden UDFA. from last year. 6.22 NFL rating. The 4th option at DE may already be on the roster, plus he was better against the run. He is listed as a LB on bear's website, so maybe he is our SAM LB.
-
I agree, it may not have worked out as the board played out but never addressed it at all. I think they may have targeted a DT and he ended up being gone, so backup plan Is Ogunjobi coming back here.
-
He's definitely looking for specific traits in the OL. I think that's why Daniels is gone. I think Daniels was athletic but may not have had the (nasty ) attitude he was looking for. May have considered him to soft. Remember when he praised Jenkins for defending Fields when he was hit out of bounds, Daniels was no where to be found. He first tried to sign Brian Allen but lost out to the SB champs. ( offered more money) Patrick has the attitude, knows the scheme, A leader type, fights every snap so as a backup plan at OC, he fits well. I think the reason screens and jet sweeps were not more successful was the lineman couldn't get to their spots to block. After the evaluation of current roster he still may need to get Fisher or Brown to play LT. I think he is serious about getting the OL fixxed. Davenport may be the LT in this scheme, physically is a NFL LT but lacks consistency. Braxton Jones may be the LT of the future but doubt he would start this year. The bears didn't address OL early but from what I've read, Ja'Tyre Carter may be the surprise start at RG that Poles drafted. Seen an interview with the bear regional scout that was responsible for bringing him here and had high praise v for him.

Aaron Lemining puts out a list, that has 35 on it . He seems to be on to top of UDFAs
-
I don't think they will, not even close to being garbage. He's a fighter and leader on offense. Total effort but not your home run RB.
-
It will be interesting to see how good Jones, is, Poles passed up several higher rated WRs to take him. I think he still grabs a bigger WR to compete with ST Brown. Several out there.
-
At this point of the draft they are drafting players they figured for priority free agents. Ebner/ RB was compared to Tony Pollard . Is a KR and is an excellent receiver with 4.42_speed. Lining players up in case they don't resign Monty.
-
The reason he dropped was his lack of experience. Only played DE for two yrs and didn't start. Probably not good against the run . Was picked 3rd team all conference as a backup. 4.5 sacks and 10 TFL as a backup.
-
I've read every article and watched every tape I could find on Jones. I know I'm being delusional but if he is 75% of Deboo, we got a playmaker on the team. Jet sweeps, screens, deep threat .ß
-
He will absolutely be the starter on KO and PR. The deep threat and gadget guy on offense. I don't doubt Poles drafts a OL in the 5th that starts at RG this year.
